Today, we are taking a look at Murray Carbs! We had a lot of issues with the first set of carbs. The question is, is the new set going to be better? Watch and find out! #caferacer #cb750 #motorcycle

you are NOT alone. My murrays carb kit came far too rich, and i'm still trying to dial them in. plugs are more black then Westley Snipes
@zsgarage771013 күн бұрын
That is so frustrating! Definitely not good when your spark plugs are westly snipes dark. Hahahahaha

Og quad cards are all you need! A little jetting, raise he needle and ur done. I'm on cafe build number 3 and I have never not ran the stock carbs. Lean how a carb works and u won't have any problems
@zsgarage7710Ай бұрын
I’ve done a handful of builds too. I usually use the OG carbs but wanted to give something new a go! But appreciate it brotha!
Thanks for your review, I have a set of Murray carbs I got for free and want to put it into my CB750 but it seems like a headache. I’ll try my best to get it installed because it was free but I also heard to keep the stock carbs just because of the reliability.
@zsgarage771028 күн бұрын
If they were free, I’d go through the headache of installing. And who knows, might be totally fine.

Hello, I had same issue with murrayscarbs on 1982 cb750k, its not throttle cables but jetting. idling jetting too lean. Replace the #35 pilot jet with #47.5 or #50 with 1-1/4 air screw. The needle position were one step too rich, I set the clip at 1st top position. With this recipe my cb750k has a nice throttle, no more brrrbrrr or boowwwoooaah

Interesting! Because apparently I've had a couple reach out to me saying there Murray carbs did the same thing.

@@Fezzler61 that’s my thing! Don’t want to work on carbs after spending so much money.

I had the sticky throttle problem too and along with that when I got them the air screws were literally 3/4 of a turn off from each other and were absolutely not synced, I called him and he got angry with me saying that I must’ve somehow messed them up and just about refused to talk to me. Absolutely would not recommend

I would try removing cables from carbs, and run bike by operating the throttle by hand, if the revs are still high, then its not the cables, slides could be getting stuck.
@zsgarage771027 күн бұрын
Definitely could be getting stuck internally. Only thing is I polished the internals. So, idk.
@DJ_Driven8 күн бұрын
You could try reaching out to Barnett cables. They can make custom cables for that carb setup. If you think that cable setup is difficult, try working on Kawasaki triples.

Thanks for the heads up. Never heard of them but just looked them up!!! Seem legit!

I’ve only worked in one Kawasaki and that was the carb only. Maybe one day I’ll get into a older Kawasaki build

I’m having the same issue with my Murray carbs too

It’s frustrating for sure. When did you buy them?
@steveminshew13 күн бұрын
@@zsgarage7710 A few years ago but I just finished the bike a few months ago. I notice that the sticking get worse as the bike warms up and if I snap the throttle open and closed the idle goes back to normal.

It can be extremely frustrating. I totally get that when you have an older motorcycle, you are going to work on it. But, this was too much!

@@zsgarage7710 I already found carburetors and I am about to order them and the reviews are wonderful, I chose to buy keihin cr special 35mm dual and I have seen very good options for you

Before you return try a different throttle cable. Also sounds like you're running lean keeping that idle high
@zsgarage7710Ай бұрын
Definitely running lean. I’ve adjusted which makes it run better, but throttle cable sucks. Maybe I’ll give it a go with new throttle cables.

Try the cognito moto air filter on the stock carburetor.
@zsgarage771028 күн бұрын
Hmmmmm, I’ve seen them on there website. Gonna have to give them a go
@SteveDave.28 күн бұрын
@zsgarage7710 Usually, the pod filters cause stock carbs to run lean. We can try more restrictive filters and / or larger fuel jets.
@zsgarage771028 күн бұрын
@@SteveDave. I was checking out the cognito moto website. They suggest going with the dunk jet 130’s for the carbs. I went to the website and they advertise that the 130’s should be better for pod filters. Going to order that.

Got a set from Murray a month ago. Having the same particular issue with a 1980 cb 650. Gonna try to do the new boot route and use carb spray to diagnose a possible vacuum leak. If I'm being honest, Murray isn't the happiest guy when it came to communication on the phone. From all the forums and videos I've seen, some people either have the best or the worst experience from him. It's a crap shoot :/ Might just say screw it and give it to motorcycle wizard to take a crack at it.
@zsgarage771013 күн бұрын
He definitely is rough around the edges. The amount of people that are telling me that they are having issues with the throttle sticking is kind of alarming. Hopefully you get it figured out!

@@zsgarage7710 Had mine looked at from this local guy who strictly works on Japanese 4 cylinders for over 40 years. Once I mentioned "Murray Carbs" he immediately frowned. He said that he dealt with a couple of bikes with the Murray Carb treatment with the same particular issue and claims those carbs and all carbs are not "plug and play". They require rejetting, synching and all of the goodness. Sure it fits, but all bikes are different even if they're the same model engine. (Compression numbers, timing, etc.)
@zsgarage771013 күн бұрын
@@SirChlorine I mean, that totally makes sense. I think the fact that Murray states that this is plug and play is the problem. They definitely need tuning (mine ran rich). Good insight though! Appreciate it!
@SirChlorine13 күн бұрын
@@zsgarage7710 Of course! Best of luck on the build! Went back to the 4 carbs. Gave them a bath, rebuilt them, installed some recommended jets from a couple forums, adjusted the clip on the needle and a bit of vacuum synching and it now runs like a clock. Even though it's more maintenance on paper, it's the way to go!
@zsgarage77108 күн бұрын
@@SirChlorine I read about the different size jets! I purchased a syncing tool as well! I ended up picking up some new carbs.

Last month, got a Murrays Carbs kit with the solid mount manifolds for my 1975 CB550 with stock 4-4 pipes. The bike is now a hot rod. The transformation was startling and gratifying. I've probably put 500 miles on the set up and am really happy with it. The only issue is that about once per ride, the bike bogs and won't rev above 5K for about 1-3 minutes. It's like hitting a wall--- sluggish to no throttle response other than deceleration. Don't know if it's an issue with the cables or stuck slide. Last night the sluggish response lasted 15 minutes and I was concerned that the bike wouldn't have the power to climb the mountain roads to my house. Stopped to get groceries for about 5 minutes and the bike was back to being a hot rod. There is no good time to lose power on a motorcycle, and abrupt power loss can be downright dangerous. I think I'll lube the cables and see if that helps....
@laurentginalhac2783Ай бұрын
hi, spark plugs can drown due to too rich a mixture. Remove the spark plugs if they are very black and dirty with soot, the needle is too high
@davidsnow2420Ай бұрын
@@laurentginalhac2783 I'll check the plugs, but it's an intermittent problem seemingly immune to riding conditions. It has occurred while riding through town at a sedate 40 mph, and at 80 mph passing cars on the interstate--- which is quite embarrassing LOL

I was going to say the spark plugs. Maybe too rich?

Go buy a injected bike. Carbs are a Labour of love, from my experience, don't put down a carb company due to your lack of knowledge about carbs, they need tinkering with weekly. I'm in Australia never heard of Murray carbs BTW.
@zsgarage7710Күн бұрын
I don’t disagree with you about the labor of love. But I disagree with you on the weekly tinkering. That’s not my experience from the multiple carbed bikes that I’ve owned. But when I get multiple emails about the same issue with these carbs, I don’t think it’s a me problem. But I could be wrong. I did do a lot of “tinkering” off camera and continued to have this problem.
