I'm sure many people have mentioned this, but, use the original Gorilla Glue in your kerfs because it expands as it dries and will fill all the voids and make it really strong. Super cool project by the way.

Love it! I worked for a special fabrication shop in Vegas for years, we would have done the whole thing with sheet metal, 22ga and 11 ga, then wrap it in Formica to get a wood look. I would have galvanized or chrome the sheet metal. With those shapes a metal finish would be really cool looking. You can also use a combination of metal and MDF for more depth. We used to stack MDF on our metal frames. It looks amazing and I understand why you got frustrated. I am impressed you made it through the build! Most shop guys I have worked with would have given up!

I know this had to be wayyyy more frustrating than we even saw given the time of year and your personal life, but it was obvious to everyone that it was hard and you stuck with it to finish content for us. We appreciate that and we appreciate you and your team. It looks cool and can be modified later after you’ve looked at it for a bit. It’s a fantastic version 1.0! Now sit back and enjoy your accomplishments while you and your team take time to relax with family!

Congratulations on the baby girl! That's so exciting! As for this build, I know it was a huge pain but dang does it look beautiful! It turned out awesome. I admit I love the AI builds. And personally I liked the fish table build even if others didn't. I can't think of a project you've done that I haven't liked to be honest. You inspire me a ton.

I appreciate the honesty and frustration on this a lot. I'v felt that on a bunch of my projects. Always love the reveal of course, but appreciated seeing that even the pros don't know what they're doing all the time. And all the guys holding the cabinet up at the end until a genius finally decided a stool and some blocks of wood could do it too was priceless. Would have loved a bit more detail on the reveal as well!

You could have used bendi-ply instead of using all the kerf cuts and the laminate a veneer on top. Simplifies quite a bit. Columbia forest products is a great source for this kind of material
@ruben9912
@ruben9912 6 ай бұрын
it sure is a lot more expensive than kerf cutting some mdf. veneered bendiply is for pieces that are fully in view, front and center. curved corners on a bar, stuff like that. using it for curves in cabinetry that you're going to cover up with a face frame is kind of a waste.

in Europe we have flexi plywood and flexi mdf without veneered definetly make this job much easier .@@ruben9912
@keithpovec6462
@keithpovec6462 6 ай бұрын
It’s really not that expensive. A little less than your typical 23/32 ply. And it was painted. Put a piece of VT laminate on it and paint it. The time savings in the shop is well worth the money. I use the stuff quite regularly. Kerf cutting some like that needs to be reserved for solid wood.

By cutting all of those little relief cuts you weakened the board to invite failure. The bondo was a brilliant idea, however there is a plywood that is only 3 layers thick and so bends easily in one direction, it's cally bendy ply or something but it is super flexible to make curves out of but is only 3/8ths or a little thinner, perhaps 11/32nds or something. So by using two layers you can glue them in a form, best to put a thin layer of cloth in between the two layers or fiberglass if you have it and it will be super strong after it dries. It's texture is finely cracked and will need filling and sanding like any cheap plywood. I love these designs, I noticed that it modeled the spaces after bone's hollow end growth. A clever design, thinking outside of the box. Good job.

I would suggest using Wood Polymer Composite(WPC) boards to get dynamic curves for the shelves without kerfing. Kerfing reduces the material integrity and makes the bend fragile. WPC boards, Once heated to around 110 C, can be bent to confirm to flowing shapes and does not spring back. You can use a heat gun with foaming templates to do so. You can achieve flowing shapes too.
