I can totally help with the retinol concentration in this product! Well... to a certain degree at least. I've done some hw during this lifelong quarantine, so please bear with me. The Inkey List website lists "1% RetiSTAR stabilised Retinol", and "0.5% Granactive Retinoid" as their key ingredients. First, 1% RetiSTAR is not the same as 1% Retinol. RetiSTAR is made up of retinol, tocopherol (vitamin E), sodium ascorbate (vitamin C), and castor oil (in caprylic triglycerides). In effect, the amount of pure retinol concentration in this treatment serum is equal to 0.05% (*). That's 20x weaker than 1% pure retinol. Second, the 0.5% Granactive Retinoid is 1/10 of Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR). What is HPR? HPR is a retinoic acid ester. It is similar to retinoic acid (a.k.a. tretinoin or Retin-A, the active form of vitamin A), as it binds directly to the retinoid receptors of our skin cells (but with little to no skin irritation). So, what is Granactive Retinoid? Granactive Retinoid, an active technology from Grant Industries, is a complex of solubilized HPR (an active) in a 1:10 ratio with dimethyl isosorbide (a solvent). Therefore, when you see a Granactive Retinoid percentage, simply divide it by 10. To sum up, The Inkey List Retinol is basically 0.05% pure retinol and 0.05% HPR. Note: Most of the limited research on HPR is from its manufacturer, and there isn't a way of knowing what % of retinoic acid HPR is equivalent to atm. Feel free to DYOR! (^_^) (*) RetiSTAR technical info: dewolfchem.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/RetiSTAR-retinol-TDS.pdf theinkeylist.com/products/retinol ^^ Hope this helps!

Wow thank you so so much for your research and sharing it here with us. As suspected it is similar to the Ordinary Granactive retinol which is really good to have confirmation of. I know a lot has been said of the studies into this being conducted by a small number of companies who own or part own The Oridinary but I love the ingredient and I hope for additional peer reviewed studies in the future to back up the use of the ingredient. I pinned your comment to everyone can see the strength and thank you again for taking the time to share with us all. xx

Hello, I have been using lastly 5% grenactive retinoid from the ordinary, I'm wanting to change it for something a bit stronger when it finish. Do you think the inkey list is a good option for me? Thank you and sorry if I'm bothering, I am still learning about products 🌹

Fragrance and cruelty free makes this amazing! Just started using it last week and it’s fantastic!!! Totally works! My skin is clearer and I hope my fine lines fade over time. I have very acne prone sensitive combination skin. Wish the tube was bigger but I like the simple, black and white packaging. I use it every night; one night, on its own and one night after my moisturizing serum and moisturizing cream. Thank you for this great review! Your channel is fantastic!! And your give away is quite generous. New Subscriber here. Thank you so much! Be blessed.

Wow! What a fantastic review! And seriously....the best giveaway I've heard of! I'm obsessed with The Inkey List and I always praise their products. I have yet to try their retinol but I have always wanted to. I'm currently using Differin Gel so I'm not sure how to add a retinol into my routine. I believe I can go in alternating evenings though and would love to start doing that. The price point for this retinol is so great and you're so right when you said this is how companies should be doing their products in 2020; no fragrance, cruelty free and no dyes! Yes, please! Another fantastic video and thank you for yet another incredible giveaway. I can't wait to see your channel grow and grow just as I watched Hyram's grow so rapidly. Yours is bound for the same because the content is such top notch quality. Cheers!

Late answer, not sure you know but there are retinoids and retinols out there. Retinoids are stronger derivatives of vitamin a, while retinols are a subtype of retinoids, which means they are just weaker and often in a form of acid. Differin gel you are using is adapalene 1mg which is a retinoid. So I think your skin already is getting used to them ! Stronger ones are tretinoin or isotretinoin, these are only at the doctors and are for severe acne. I will try to get perscription for tretinoin or differin for both acne and anti aging, they work wonders! You should not mix differin with retinols! If you see good results, you can buy inkey list or perhaps other ones if you want to keep that good skin after you are done with differing but give your skin a break at least a month :) Remember sunscreen and moisturizer!

I started using this product about a month ago now after seeing a dermatologist rave about it. I was extremely worried about purging (I'm 27 and have suffered from acne since my teens) but I actually only had one or two minor spots and they disappeared very quickly. I felt a mild burning when I first used it but that went away after the third or fourth time applying (I started off every three days, now use it every other day). I'm in love! I got the eye cream as well and both together are giving me the best skin I've ever had. My skin is just very clear and glowy in a way which is hard to describe

I’m also a fan of The Inkey List’s Retinol. Though I just started using it. Guess what I’ve done... I got it on Tuesday. Today is Saturday... I’ve used it every single night 😶 Now I am.. a little bit dry. All I’ve dared to do to my skin today is wash last nights skincare (and retinol) off and cleans with the tiniest pearl sized amount of an Holika Holika cleanser and put some of The Inkey List’s Niacinamide .

Wooow! This product sounds to be really great! And it's also very affordable. In my night time routine, I've been using a very expensive, yet very effective on my skin product: "The Estee Lauder night repair serum" (which I wouldn't want to quit using tbh). But I'd like to start slowly introducing a retinol as well. Do you think it'd be fine to combine the Inkey List Retinol + the Estee Lauder serum and layer a moisturizer at the end?

Hello again! I have a question about using AHAs with retinol. I’ve been using the Inkey list retinol for about three weeks, every four days, and I’ve found it makes my skin way more sensitive to the tingling when I’ve tried to use my AHA overnight treatment (a few days after retinol). It’s so painful I have to wash it off immediately. Is there anything you can recommend so I can get the benefits of exfoliation or should I just wait fir my skin to adjust? Thank you!

In the video he made comparing the two of them, the Inkey got a 10/10 and The Ordinary 2% granactive retinoid got a 9.5/10. This had a slightly better formulation and was better absorbed into the skin. Although he's since shared a hack where if you buffer The Ordinary one with their basic moisturiser, it absorbs really well.
