This is just an ad for an app. Nothing at all about watch vs cycle computer.

In the past I used watches and my iPhones but once you get a bike computer you can't go back. The visibility of data constantly makes it all the worthwhile.

Chris this is fantastic content thank you. Been waiting for something like this on the Apple Watch for a while. Even as someone who races there is absolutely a market for this and I hear what people are saying about a quick glance to a head unit but there is more to it than that. I'm thinking those social coffee rides, group club runs & recovery spins where you don't want to be a slave to the data in front of you but still capture in the background. Get back to the enjoyment of cycling.

This is great, you can see future version being intergraded into the bars, with the Apple Watch being so small you can see carbon bars with a slot for it in the future.

Chris I think you are missing the most pertinent point here for most users - simplicity. I wear a Garmin Fenix watch every day and it is extremely accurate supports Ant+ (something apple don’t) so pairs to all my existing devices and yet I next to never use it on the bike. Why? Simply because having a dedicated screen with great battery life and clear fonts suitable for a quick glance is just a better and simpler experience especially when paired with my DI2 magic buttons so I don’t even need to lift my hands off the hoods to change screens. The concept of having to lift hands off bars mid climb or corner to look at climb pro and squint at a small screen in the sun just doesn’t really work and hence why after years of trying to use watches I have now given up and will stick with a dedicated head unit.

Hey Ben, I see your point but I would argue the Fenix is a fitness watch first and smartwatch second, it’s user experience and purpose is very different to that of the Apple Watch. Not only that but the targeted end user, someone like yourself who is clearly a very keen cyclist, is vastly different from 99.9% of Apple Watch users.

@@ChrisMillerCycling I do agree. Since I am not very pro cyclist and already own watch and iphone, so I dont see the point to invest at least 500$ into sensorns and unit. I use phone mounted to the bars and the watch as a heart sensor. Phone is always on display and after 3 hours ride, it loose 30% of battery. More than enough for me. And navigation is uncomparable with any garmin unit or karoo.

Mr Miller 2 things, 1 compare strava segments cycle computer vs apple watch, the watch misses segments at times and visa-versa, I suspect watch simply doesn't have powerful enough gps, 2 if you get really sweaty (which you don't hehe) the heart rate will just go to the max particularly when running. - but cycling as well. finally you can't compare maps and gps drift as most apps will grab the waypoints and stick them to the nearest road/route. I've done rides and uploaded both watch and karoo/garmin to strava and watch clearly misses segments - in strava terms this would be because the gps from watch simply didn't register on the segment long enough. otherwise watch is good - but not as good as cycle computer.

I’m missing a key feature on Wahoo that you now have on Apple Watch bike app: To set zones for heart rate or power and also get a notification if you’re in our out of the zone.

I have found with the watch that when you stop wait and then start again your distance is missing the distance for when it detects that you have stopped and then come up to a speed that it things a bike would be running at. So walking would also sometimes not be included.

I would like to see you do a new video with the Apple Watch Ultra and the newest Watch OS. I think that having a watch is better, cause it does so much more than just track your ride. And with the newest features, like fall detect, sos, dual GPS, I think it would be an interesting video.

Nice review! Thanks :) Just picked an Apple Watch Ultra going to do as you have here... and still use my Garmin Edge 540 just for Vario radar and mapping if needed :) (actually just checked the navigr8 site and they say they have integrated vario radar to the watch version!) i like that by having power, cadence, heart rate on the watch it's not always in line of site and you can ride by feel a bit more than i might otherwise.

I use a garmin watch to record my commute as I don't really care much about numbers I just want to record the ride. It is annoying when you actually want to see some data though as they are hard to use/scroll through screens while riding.

Hey Chris, I wonder if I can use the app on the phone - and when I start my cycling workout on the phone, that the watch would then 'start' at the same time as the watch (AND Vice Versa)? So then, the HR avg. would show on the phone, as well as the watch (...and vice versa) - so the point I am trying to get at is a feature to use the phone and the watch at the same time (whether you start the workout session from the phone first, or the watch first)? I would love your feedback on this as this I think a feature I would love to have (and to finally pay for the app, if that would have to be in the Pro purchase!) - the features are exactly what I need! Man, I'd love to just use my phone for now (for the longest time... before buying an actual bike computer). Thanks Chris.

Hi Chris, which assioma power meter did you use with the app? I was interested to see if it was capable of showing L & R data from the duo shi. Just aware that some can only show total power & not L & R splits. TIA

This bike was really easy to assemble kzfaq.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

Currently have Quatix 6, was tempted by Apple Watch Ultra to record activities (I also use a 530 head unit). My watch is on me 24/7 for all sports so gives me a body battery, Vo2 max etc. I know apple give you a Vo2 estimate but I doubt it will give me a cycling Vo2 max estimate based on my info crank numbers. So Apple still not a viable alternative to Garmin watches for cycling metrics (vo2, body battery, recovery etc).

How do you feel about the apple watch for daily use for cyclists that tend to use cycling head units? Do you use it often enough to justify?

Sometimes I'm obsessing with my data on my computer while I'm riding, instead of just enjoying my ride. On a watch it would be harder to see, maybe solving that issue. But all the same I'll stick with my head unit.

How do you combine HR data from your apple watch with the gps readings of your bike computer?
@jhenry489
@jhenry489 Жыл бұрын
@@eljakimdeclerck1941 I didn’t combine them on a software level, just side by side comparison. Both on the road and MTB . The Apple Watch was alway within a few beats of the Garmin HR strap and gave no spikes or drops in reading. My old Garmin forerunner 35 watch was so far off I didn’t bother with it. I’m sure Garmin’s current watches are much better though.

What’s the point of having a power reading on the wrist if you can’t look at it consistently through an effort? It would be awesome for a crit race where you might not want data in your face, but you still want to record it.

I used my iPhone for a couple months this past fall, worked fairly well but it lagged and glitched all over.. was within .5 mph.. just looking at the gps map after a ride you can tell how much more accurate an actual head unit is
