People have been really excited about the GoXLR. I don't blame them, it seems pretty perfect. But now that I've been using it for a month, here is everything you need to know about it.

Thanks for the review, sounds great! I plan on getting it in about 3 months and by then most of the software stuff should be worked out I would think. It is my last piece of hardware I need as I have been streaming and a YT for almost 3 years now. Currently working on brand. The sound stuff just confuses me to be honest even for a technical guy that is one reason I want to go with this product. Thanks.

Have you ever thought about doing a video on routing audio with a mixer (for streaming)? And an audio moron (like myself) would LOVE this. And there aren't really any good videos out there. Ex: All of the channels I have plugged in, come out of my mic when I am in Discord/voice chat - and idk how to fix it. There are SO MANY issues that no one has addressed when it comes to streaming and audio.

I'm a little late to help, but chances are your mixer only has one bus, which is why everything plugged in to it is going through Discord, etc. If you want to separate those devices, they need to be plugged in to something other than your mixer. For example, I have a Behringer 302USB on it's way, it's a 2 input 1 bus mixer. So sure I could plug in not only my mic but also say, a phone for music, I can only ever record both at the same time. If you're trying to get something like a soundboard on a tablet going, your best bet is to plug it directly in to the computer via a spare input jack.

FANTASTIC review. I love everything you had to say here. I came across your review while looking up how to play around with the FX button on the GoXLR. I know, probably odd to watch a review AFTER I just unboxed my GoXLR today, but I've heard nothing but good things from several streaming buddies who all got themselves one of these. I especially loved your tip about saving to add this piece to your streaming setup later on. I've been using a USB mic for three years and have upgraded every other aspect of my streaming setup and left my audio upgrade as the very last thing. Paired up my GoXLR with an AT2035, which I decided in the end was also better than spending more money on a $500 mic I was looking into. My setup was quick and easy and I think the GoXLR is great for that. I actually DID have trouble getting the app to relauch a few times though, but I didn't need to restart my PC to bring it back up, eventually. Great review!

So i was an early adopter of the GoXLR (i actually had mine before the public launch) and i agree with you on the submix point. That's the only thing i wish that they would add. When playing a shooter, sometimes its nice to have the game a bit louder in your headphones so you can hear those footsteps or the other player trying to sneak around.

Doing a 2 pc set up? just mute game from goxlr and just use game audio via capture card, that way you can adjust the game sound for stream via streamlabs and have it higher on headphones

Ended up getting a Korg NanoKonrol2 in conjunction with voicemeeter (Potato), I was able to get 5 seperate audio channels that I can control through the sliders. Has been great so far! Maybe add it to the budget setup list !. Love the videos, you've really helped since I have started streaming this year!

Enjoying the vids and learning a lot. been thinking about a mixer for myself and this is on my list along with a decent mic. you mention that sometimes the app fails to start, i actually think this could be a windows issue rather than the goxlr software as i have this exact same issue sometimes with my pc i most recently noticed it with chrome not starting and the only way i could get it to function was a pc restart. as you mention you have a different setup to the recommended how have you got it wired up?

I agree with the review entirely. Haven't used mine to stream yet (first time will be Sunday) but have had the same issues with the app in testing my audio. I had found that prior to the update the app would hide in the tray and be like "locked" there. Haven't had that again since the update. I love the fact that you can save different profile settings for different stream services or users. I assume switching out and back in to the profiles would also fix the noise gate issue, which I will be keeping an eye on now. Thanks for the vid guy- CrownEss0

My issue with the GoXLR is its insane reliability on the computer and its drivers. I like to have a board with controls that I can rely on, and not having to worry about losing settings (because of a bad update or install), and small changes on the fly without having to alt tab and use my mouse to get to those settings. I team this up with an ODAC headphone amp and I'm solid without messing with the mix to the stream / internet. I like for my gaming machine to be my gaming machine, not the audio / stream machine.

I have been using the GoXLR also for about 4 months and I have to say, it's an awesome piece of equipment, I just updated to the latest firmware 1.1.0.46 and software version 1.0.5.71 and honestly the only thing I can complain about is I feel my Shure SM78B is lacking volume without having to crank it up very carefully in the settings before getting clipping and distortion. But on all points I'd have to agree with your feedback on this device. A simple options (software fix) that would allow us to control that cross-fade between outputs would be for them to utilize the Effects Dials (when not using effects) - 4 Channels - 4 Dials. God Bless!

Thanks brother for this video. You have definitely solidified my decision to purchase a Yamaha mixer. Why? I'm on a mid-range budget. I am just starting my twitch journey. Yamaha mixers are used not only for broadcasting, but for musicians. So let's say I start to see real growth, and I want a little treat for myself and the viewers.. I could easily sell the Yamaha on Craigslist/Kijiji or otherwise (because of the musician market), And that makes the 'toy' (GoXLR) a little more affordable. Cheers for the extremely informative video.

This is why i really love voicemeeter it has 3 versions Free cheaper and cheap its donationware i think i payed around 15 dollars for the most expansive one sure it is a virtual Mixer but it has so many awesome features like Audio routing in total 15 Faders where you can select all the volumes to get all the levels right then you have Faders to increse what you hear which will not affect the stream and you can increse and lower it on the streams end as well so i generally set the stream profile up and leave OBS on default adding the sources ofc i can not stress it enough how good this software is plus the built in compressor and noise gate and all those standards even EQ with echo support.. I love it would never buy a physical mixer untill i find one that does all the things that Voicemeeter does

As good as a virtual interface is, it's about the physical ability and the fly adjustment without going into settings. I couldn't do a software solely thing. It's gets very annoying clicking between things when I could just press a button or do a quick fader adjustment.

You mentioned using the GoXLR in conjunction with the Astro TR+, can you please explain how you use the GoXLR with the Astro Amp? I use the Astro A40s with the Astro TR+ and within the next two weeks will add the GoXLR for better sound isolation and control when streaming but can figure out how best to set it up. My setup includes: Console: Xbox Streaming Source: Mac running OBS Studio Capture Card: Elgato HD60 S Headset: Astro A40 w/ TR+ Current Issue without the GoXLR: Game and Party Chat volumes are great within the stream; however, my chat audio from the Astros is low. If I adjust the sliders in OBS or the Elgato app, the game and party chat volume comes in too hot and starts clipping.

I personally use Voicemeeter Banana for the submix, I route my music through it, and then the output to the GoXLR, which allows for me to hotkey my volume to preset levels... Downside is more software running and it isn't directly interfaced on the GoXLR itself. I'd love a slider or button to "switch sub-mix" to presets, but for now, my streamdeck will have to own that feature.

@Alpha Gaming at 9:20, you might want to stop the Explorer.exe task, which makes windows do a soft restart, which can make the difference. How you do this in win 10, is just open the Windows File Explorer (or Win key + E) and End Task the Windows Explorer. Then go to "File" -> Run new task -> Type in Explorer.exe, and you got your self a soft reboot.

Did you cringe as well when he said "sub-mix"? Also, what do you think the "amount" value represents on the gate and compressors?

How do you route the audio using an Astro mixamp? I have a 2PC setup and want to hear game sound higher than the stream? I tried voicemeter banana, routing max sound into "game" and "system" to the stream but I dislike not having a nob to control it in the fly.

Yoooooo, I've been looking for a goxlr w/astro mixamp video all day then you mentioned submix, I'm hoping I can see a setup video as that's the same setup I will be going for.

How do you route the mic back to the gaming PC when it is connected to the streaming PC? I want to be able to use in game mic while still using my mic for stream. I don't currently have the setup i am just trying to work it out in my mind :-P

Did you ever find a way to make the microphone monitoring sound normal? The open stereo-esque type sound is kind of distracting and can't tell if the mix is correct or how the mic actually sounds without making a recording

Wait, so do you suggest that Yamaha over the Behringer Xenyx? You said the sound quality on the Behringer wasn't as good as the yamaha but in your upgrade video you talked about the $116 Behringer, not this smaller $60 one. Doesn't matter, I'll probably go with the Yamaha anyway but I'm curious of how the the other xenyx compares to that yamaha.

What gaming headset are you using with the mixer? Do you plug it in the go xlr or directly to the pc? Whether it's a usb or wireless headset. I want to get it but i'm afraid i might have some issues with connecting a gaming headset to it. Thanks!
