QOTD: What phone do you remember most fondly?

My mum uses my old SE for the bare minimum tasks and she is quite happy with it. Battery life is a major struggle though but for basic text messages, whatsapp, phone calls etc it works fine.

If you replace the battery it will last you a full day. That's what I did and it still works great

Grandad still uses my old one, battery is a little bit of a problem but camera still holds up to this day. Really impressed by it still

I picked this phone to use as a secondary "minimalist" phone. This phone runs pretty snappy, despite this was stuck on iOS 15 (but still has security updates). The only downside is the battery life when heavily used (the battery health is still very good though).

i still use mine every day. i got stranded in Milan recently and searched for and booked new flights, and checked in online using the phone and navigated 3 countries to get back using it, keeping in touch with friends and family on the way, and keeping myself entertained during stops in various airports. I also planned a running route near Milan while I was away on my phone, and used Apple Pay the entire trip, and it was my main camera. I tend to charge it overnight and it will always last me the entire day. Have no clue what people are doing on £1000 phones that don't fit in your pocket with 12 cameras on them.

I still use this phone sometimes when I feel like using something smaller, I swapped the battery and it’s super stable, lasts a lot longer too

I have the rose gold 128gb. Use mine everyday, it’s with me always. It’s just so convenient and I love it the most lol I got a 13 mini last August, anticipating the demise of the SE. It hasn’t been used really, I kept going back to SE Hasn’t given any problems so far, still enjoy using it. Everyone’s needs are different

This is going to be a challenge of mine. I have a nice little smartphone collection and I'm going to try my rose gold 64gb SE for a week later this year. It's still my favorite ever phone from apple and was my daily from 2016-2020

The battery issue is due to age, I have replaced the battery myself at minimal cost and now use it as a trial iphone phone as I usually use android and no issue with random shut downs and I use it for work, taking photo's etc and battery life is reasonable

This video is so dumb and wrong imho. This guy is literally basing his whole conclusion on a broken phone. I wanted to swap my S10e for an IPhone Mini 13 but got offered an IPhone SE 2016 with 128 Gb for 30 bucks. I was curious and couldnt resist. Swapped the old battery for a brand new one for less than 15€ and now been using it for over a months and could not be happier. Easily gets me trough a whole day, does all the apps (even tho a bit slower), built like a tank, the size is so convenient and the camera is still decent ❤️

I use this phone and its actually really good lol (tbh i know nothing else to compare it to) but it gets pretty recent IOS, and its size is really good/portable, so i actually quite like it.

i still use the iphone se today and it is my favourite designed iphone, i havent had a single glich with it though

Well actually I use mine as a daily driver. I got it like two months ago, it was brand new and it works perfectly. The battery lasts me the whole day and I don't have any issue with it. For me the size is perfect because I have small hands, I am so fed up with large phones (that's why I went for this model) and it also has a headphone jack. Also was an android user up until I got this one because I can't find any small android device that runs as smooth as this one and does everything

I just bought this phone second hand yesterday outta interest of having one. It works fine, still support apps (spotify, whatsapp, telegram etc). the lightness of the phone makes me hate my iPhone 13 mini ngl.

My second hand Iphone SE 1st gen will turn 1 month to me. Since it's a back up phone it last me whole day. Just browsing different stuffs in safari, Instagram and messenger, texting and calls. I use this phone to as my secondary camera for quick snaps outside.

I bought a refurb and have been using it as my work mobile for about a month. After following the advice of a couple of change these setting to get decent battery life videos, installing just organic maps, the company apps and a couple of messengers, it works fine. Size is great, lasts the work day (including travel). I've stopped carrying my personal phone most work days. Plus my old 5S case fits and I can use the work supplied headphones (all wired). Very happy with it. (However, I will expect that a heavy phone user would probably need a larger phone for the bigger battery)

My girl is still using a 2nd gen SE, and even that phone because of it's battery degradation isn't doing so hot anymore. She has to charge the thing 2 to 3 times a day depending on what she's doing on it, and it's getting pretty laggy, buggy, and slow. She opened an app the other day and I watched it open to a black screen, immediately crash back to the home screen and just refuse to open that app, she had to restart the phone. Sad to see because it isn't even 3 years old yet.

Could you use it as a backup emergency travel phone I’m Europe? I mean with a sim just for phone calls and simple browsing?

I had an SE in 2016 just a bit after it came out, I remember how bad the storage was because I had the 16gb model but the battery was actually really good. I have an old 5s that I got last year for “decoration” and the battery I remember one day I turned it on it was at 62% and then 30 seconds later 54% and it runs on iOS 10.3.2, ngl I kinda want to use it for a day for jokes.

Can you try to use it with a new extended battery? I have an Iphone SE 2016 with a extended battery and i'm able to get 4-6 hours of Screen time with one charge! with a new battery this phone is an absolute beast! amazing video

I bought one off eBay and am waiting for it to arrive and will soon use it for a daily driver.

I changed battery and have 6,5+ hours 1080p full HD KZfaq constant going before it dies. With 4G and had brightness half full which is standard for day to day. That’s more than enough for todays standards if you think about an almost 8 years old phone. Every app and every game runs without lagg. I can use Apple Arcade and play Oceanhorn 2 without getting the phone hot or performance drop. It works as smooth as my SE3 and 13 mini. Since most apps only need iOS 12 or 13 and the SE1 has iOS 15 it will take every app update for minimum 2 more years.

This was almost my first iPhone because of the design. I ended up waiting and getting the 7+ instead.

Just changed the battery again, helps on performance. I avoid loading snapchat tho

I switched the battery on my old one for a slightly bigger one I believe it’s 10% more capacity, it is a game changer, I also have an ipod Touch, and this one without a sim card kinda makes for a better ipod than the actual ipod 7 the battery life is better, and although it is thicker it’s somehow more comfortable of a grip, and I absolutely love this design, a solid slab with no camera bumps I consider it a collector’s piece but also quite usable still

Your issue Is a bad battery. I bet the battery health is 85 or below. Of course, it wouldn’t have a good battery even if it was brand new, but it would last significantly better. I got a sealed one in 2020 and three years later the health is at 97 (it’s a collection device so I barely use it) and it lasts alright.

didn’t watch the video yet but it came into my feed and so I came to simply answer the headline question. - Yes! why yes you can. As I type this on my 1st gen SE. As I watch this on my first gen SE. As I use my first gen SE each day all day. Which I love. Which I have since 2018 when I bought one, still brand new in a box. Because I like the small. But alas!!! I am realistic, I am not ignorant of reality. The battery sucks and I’ve replaced it twice. Still love it. I am no photographer so the camera works fine for me. It is an old phone yes and it will not update anymore. Dah well… I still love it. And came here to type it out with it in my hand, my dearly beloved, “long in the tooth” 2016 iphone SE.😅

today is my last day of using Iphone SE -- I phone 12 tomorrow I'll miss the screen size The headphone jack - < the reason for not wanting to upgrade. I have also had issues with battery life, The battery died a couple of years ago, and when i tried to turn it back on it got stuck at an apple loading screen ,I couldn't access anything, tried loading the phone on computer. I ended up resetting the phone and losing all my photos. Now I have glitches where the phone resets, the phone becomes really hot when charging, and sometimes when not charging, the phone is over working draining the battery quickly. The phone has travelled with me from UK to Spain, Finland and Africa - I dropped the phone in Africa, and luckily found a screen replacement shop, being a black phone.. It had to have a white screen - kinda unique look. - Iphones aren't so common that side, so replacement screens are pretty rare ! Given that these batteries are meant to last 500 cycles, and given that it needs charging 2-3x a day, it's doing well with 82% battery health and no replacement batteries. Other issues, sketchy Bluetooth Connectivity and poor signal range. But yes, i'll miss this beauty !

A lot of these are only issues people who are addicted to their phone are gonna run into. I switch to a 5s on and off every once and a while and I never need to charge my phone in a day. Dead within a couple hours of video watching shouldn’t be an issue because you probably shouldn’t be spending a couple hours watching videos.

I was using an SE until September 2022. I'm the first to champion what a device can actually do as opposed to people's perceptions of it, but an SE these days is pretty impractical. There are multiple issues: 1. It overheats on complex apps and software updates IE properly hot to touch 2. Apps are not designed for the small screen and you often can't see what you're doing. 3. Mine tanked a brand new battery in less than a year - It started switching off at indicated 20% battery. 4. As stated in your video battery life is pretty awful even with a new battery. Your conclusion for me is right on.
