I don't know about anyone else, but I am going to speak up for myself when I say, if you ever sell the rounded spine books, I would most definitely try to buy one. I like those, plus it looks like they have more paper. All of your books are beautiful but these, although you just started learning the technique, really stand out to me at this point in time. Please say you will do more.

Glue the spine until you don't see any air pockets; which I'm sure you know since you are a experienced bookbinder. Second text block is much better. Nice work. And those book cloths are gorgeous!

You and your creations and your videography are so soft and sweet and gentle, and then 3:20 happens and it just had me grinning like a dork from how unexpected any swearing is in this environment. Made me love your stuff even more, somehow.

I'm about to start trying to make one of these books. I've had my text block sitting for a few days and I've been putting off trying to round the spine because I'm terrified I'm going to ruin it! Watching you being hesitant and unsure made me feel way better about just going for it. Thank you so much for making this video showing your first try!

The problem you're having with the squashed spine is because you're using flat boards during the shouldering process. It's really worth investing in brass-edged nipping boards which usually have a 45 degree angle. This allow you to make more 'glancing' blows with the hammer and retain the roundness. Hope that helps, really enjoy your videos and gorgeous books!

Love to see your rounding and backing journey, from beginning it here to later videos. I'm just starting to make rounded and backed casebounds, and you're a big inspiration! Also, I LOOOOOVEEE your bookcloth covers! The fabric is gorgeous! May I ask where did you get the fabric? It must be heaven on Earth ahha xD

Such an inspiring video! Thank you for sharing your process of trying out new techniques. It's so intimidating to get away from the standard cased-in, French link books I've been making for years, but I want to really explore some of the other techniques I haven't played around with yet. And it's so refreshing to see your learning experience and how the first one is not going to be perfect.

One year ago I found your videos and since then I started to self learn bookbinding, now I am officially learning everything in online school, and one thing I learned is never fold against the grid. Folding paralel to the grid will help your book lay flat and makes the page turning nicer and smoother. Can you please make a video comparing a book folded against and paralel to the grid. It is a gamechanger. Keep going! I really like watching your videos. ❤️

I wondered for the hammering and shaping section whether a piece of oval shaped timber (you would only need it slightly longer than your book) would work instead of pressing your thumbs against the pages. Just a thought. Your books are lovely and I enjoy your videos very much.
