In the book, Edmond was headstrong and brash, but the White Witch fed him Turkish Delight that was laced with a magic that made him want more of it, kind of like an addiction, and made him willing to betray his family.

There’s an old adaptation (like, probably 1970s-80s) of “Pilgrim’s Progress” and the sequel, “Christiana”. Low budget stuff, of course…so low budget, they hired one guy to play ALL the good men they would meet along the way. Liam Neeson.

I can still hear my favorite line…the evil Giant Grim calls out menacingly through flames, “You are entering the Kingdom of the Unknown. Only FOOLS enter the Kingdom of the Unknown!” And Liam Neeson calls back, “These pilgrims enter in the name of the One who knows their future better than they can remember the past!” He draws his sword, and walks through the flames.

A yes to the former and a no to the latter from me. There are plenty of magical book series out there! The Lord of the Rings The Riftwar Saga/The Empire Saga, Feist's whole catalog of Midkemia/Kelewan books A Song of Ice and Fire Mistborn The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant Farseer Trilogy Shannara Blegariad/Mallorean Wheel of Time Xanth And many more I've left out or just never read! Of course Narnia is a unique story but that doesn't mean it isn't in good company.

The Professor is not married. The woman is his Housekeeper. It's a shame they didn't turn the 'first' book, "The Magician's Nephew", into the first film. The book was actually the sixth one written/released but in terms of Narnia's chronology it started the whole storyline. It adds some useful information about Aslan, the Witch and the world of Narnia itself.

Magician's Nephew was, in my opinion, the weakest of all the books. I hated when they reordered them because when some of my friends' children started at the "beginning" they couldn't get into TMN and never finished the new first book. I got several of them to skip TMN and read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe instead and all but one of them (he was too into computer games to want to read) loved it and thought it was great, one even saying "This should have been the first book instead of that one!" TMN is good as #6, giving some insight to the Professor when he was just young Diggory, and giving the background of the Witch and of the Wardrobe too. But it absolutely needed to be a later book. Along those lines, if I'd had to read Lewis' good friend Tolkien's books starting with the Silmarilion, I'd have never made it to The Hobbit nor The Lord of the Rings. But it was good to read later, to learn about some of the people and histories vaguely mentioned in LotR.

That's one reaction I didn't expect. Also about the Pevensie siblings (why you seem to disagree with some of them), since you've watched the second movie this information is not a spoiler: Peter: He's the brave big brother, responsible and often dashing forward. You can clearly notice the lack of experience he has in fighting in the first movie, while in the second he's better than Miraaz who's a great warrior. Susan: She's the rational one, always thinking before acting and pondering which path would be better to take (that's why she questions everything Peter does). But putting that aside, she does have an emotional side, she is very strong, dependable, beautiful and intelligent, and there are many who desired her for all that. Edmund: In the beginning you see him as selfish and sarcastic, even mean, but after you notice he's grown and become very wise (wiser than the others). Add the fact that he's an incredible warrior and you have a dangerous foe, both wise and strong. It goes without saying that he's very fierce in protecting his family. My personal favourite. Lucy: The youngest, very courageous and kind, she rarely loses hope and she trusts in Aslan. You can't describe the best Pevensie with words, you can just feel it and understand. There's more to say but this should be good enough.

@ohood1788 Жыл бұрын
@@englishlady9797 Before they board the train in the beginning of the movie, her mother tells Susan to be a "big girl" and I think that really impacted the way she acts throughout the movie. Same with Peter, he was being very protective of the others because that's how he interpreted his mother's words to him. They were just trying to do what they thought was expected of them. You can even see Susan trying to fill the role of a parent to her younger siblings. I find it sad when Susan reminds Lucy how fun she used to be, the war forced her to grow up too quickly. As the youngest, Lucy is able to retain her childlike qualities but as the eldest daughter I think Susan felt she had a lot of responsibilities and expectations placed upon her. I don't think that makes her selfish at all. Quite the opposite actually, she's just trying to do what's best for everyone in the way she believes a "grown up" would.

The white witch is like Satan. Aslan is the Jesus character, he's pure and has done nothing wrong, but he gives up his life for Edmund and then resurrects and defeats the white witch, just like Jesus died on the cross for all of us, then rose from the dead, so to anyone who asks Him too, He will forgive them and give them eternal life in Heaven one day. 2:48 Actually, they didn't lose their father. Their father is still alive and well still serving in the British forces. If I'm not mistaken, he's one of the British officers that is stationed in the U.S. or has some connection to the war office that has him posted at the British embassy in Washington. (Maybe I'm wrong entirely.) Somehow, when the second World War broke out, he was either A) unable to return home to be with his family or B) he was trying to find a way to get them all to move away from the war to be with him. 3:30 Because during the Battle of Britain, the German air raids were concentrated in the cities so that was why a lot of homes, neighborhoods, towns, and a large group of civilians opened their homes to take in children that were being moved out of the dangerous areas. At this point in time, aerial bombings tried to focus on hitting military targets. But attacking at night has a high risk of hitting civilians and non-military personnel. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy basically were taken in under the Professor who opened up his home to take in kids that were displaced by the war. By the third movie, in Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Peter and Susan have already moved away overseas to be with their father. Lucy and Edmund unfortunately didn't make the crossing because they were the youngest and stayed behind in England. Susan, in that film, while writing a letter to Lucy and Edmund talks about how busy their father is and hopes that one day, the crossing across the Atlantic will be safer and hopes they can all be reunited soon.
@brianalambert1192
@brianalambert1192 2 жыл бұрын
In a slight amount of fairness to Edmund, it's explained in the books that the food that she gave him was enchanted so it made you crave more. But he also started daydreaming on his way to her all the things he would do as a King. It's also explained that he was a bit of a bully before going to Narnia; he was particularly nasty to Lucy when she was talking about Narnia and would make fun of her. The explanation later is that he'd started going wrong in school (becoming a mean boy) and that what happened in Narnia fundamentally changed him for the better. He was essentially a very foolish boy who was already susceptible to the White Witch's enchantments and who learned his lesson very quickly But seriously, the one thing that is consistent throughout each movie is the atmosphere and Aslan. The fact that you were getting emotional when he was just talking is a testament to it. Aslan is supposed to be a being who you see him and you at once love him and are terrified of him; someone who could kill you in an instant and you have to trust that he won't, but when you do trust him you realize how much he cares about you. The more you get to know him the more you love him. He is everything strong and wise and caring. There's a scene in The Magician's Nephew where the main character, a boy, is going up to him to ask for a cure to save his dying mother. Aslan in his own way chastises the boy for the choices that he made (which brought the White Witch to Narnia in the first place), the way a parent would when they want you to own up to something but not in an angry way. The boy starts to lose hope that Aslan would help him, but then he looks at Aslan's eyes and sees tears and the boy knows that Aslan is more sad for the boy's mother than the boy himself is.

Did you know that there was tv show of The Chronicles of Narnia back in the 80's. I used to love it when I was a kid and would go around trying to find a way to get into Narnia. Each season was a different book.

I just remember the old animated version the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I don't THINK it was by Rankin and Bass, but IIRC came out around the same time they did The Hobbit and Return of the King.

@@Ambaryerno I saw the animated movie when I was very little. The TV show was made by the BBC. Warwick Davis played Reepicheep in season 2 and 3. Ashlan was a very well made puppet and seemed like a real lion to a little kid in the 1980s. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lbNgZKiFusjNeIk.html

"Minotaurus?!" Haha minotauro in Spanish or minotaur in English but either way, yeah close enough. :) "This really hurt me in a way." Man, I read these books from start to finish, over and over again, and felt that way so many times. I think the third book of the series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, had the ending the hit me the hardest, but also the end of the final book was incredible too. So sad that the movie series never got past the Dawn Treader but I think you got the point of them, Duaffy. They're about magic and fantasy on the surface, but more about living life well and making the most of this short time we have in brave and positive ways.

I was addicted to the books as a child too. It’s hard to pick favorites but I really liked and reread The Magician’s Nephew. I was sorry they didn’t get to it. It gives the backstory of the Witch, and you find she has committed genocide before. I have worked for nuclear disarmament off and on, and I think that book inspired me to realize we could actually destroy our world.

Allow me to explain the law of Narnia. Jadis represents Satan and The traitors represents the sinners. Aslan represents Jesus Christ who was the only one in Narnia pure hearted. There was another law that was called the Deeper Magic which stated that when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor’s place, the Stone Table would crack then death itself would work backwards. The cracking of the Stone Table represents the tomb which opened for Jesus on the day of His resurrection. Jadis was practically the Emperor Beyond the Sea’s (God’s) hangman. It’s similar how in the book of Job when Satan was given the right to make Job miserable but not to kill him by God. Satan thought he could get Job to curse God but was unsuccessful. Jadis thought by killing Aslan she would win and could kill Edmund and the others so easily. She didn’t realize what Aslan had done and therefore she no longer had any claim on His or Edmund’s blood. Just like how Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins so we could live. When He died the debt was paid, Now we have the opportunity to get to Heaven through our faith and belief in Jesus Christ.

This is the most faithful adaptation of a book to film I have ever seen. Only one scene was added: the Blitz scene. This was for the obvious reason is that nobody under the age of 80 will have experienced it and is to give context to modern kids to the book's opening sentences of it was war time and kids were sent to the country.

Extraordinary! My favorite scene was Professor Digory Kirke talking to Peter and Susan in the study. Also love Mr. Fox. As the adventures continue it's a delight to watch how they grow, especially Edmund. Narnia is real, one can find very similar lamp posts along Armstrong Bridge in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne UK (Jesmond Dene area).

Okay yeah you definitely need to watch the 2nd Narnia movie at least. The Prince Caspian movie is definitely a direct tie in to the end of this movie basically, it shows what happens to Narnia in their absence, what the kids have been up to back in the real world, etc. It's a really good movie IMO, and you'll probably feel even more of those emotions in it

This books especially this story was actually inspired by the Bible. Aslan is basically a metaphor of Jesus. Also anyone notice how similar the scene where aslan gets made fun of is to the scene of Jesus at caiphasas house in Mel Gibson's the passion. Similar lightning and the creepy faces look inspired by that too

Hoping you have a fast and complete recovery! The books are really spectacular, and the movies, though the effects are terrific, don't do the books justice. I love the fact that you’ve done this. I also agree with you that when we were kids, we had more than ample imagination and belief in magic among other things. Imho the adults of the world need to see and believe in those things again. I’ve always loved the saying ‘Whatever you do today, do it with the confidence of an 8-year old in a Spider-Man t-shirt.’ Would you please see about doing Where the Wild Things Are? As with this one, it too was one of my childhood favorite books.
