We've been missing the point. AI is not here to replace us. And to even think that such a thing would even be a possibility is to completely misunderstand the nature of creativity (and diminish your ability to write and sell screenplays).
In this video, Jeff explains why the narrative around AI - that it's the enemy - is entirely mistaken, and ultimately damaging to one's creativity. (Spoiler alert: You are a human, which gives you a unique and intrinsically valuable window on the world.)
And it has led to a new direction for us: The Screenwriting ACCELERATOR.
We're leaning into AI in the creative space - the most profound and transformative technology of our lifetime applied to the most important a wide-reaching use case. Learn how to use AI and apply it to your creative process to harness and capture more of what makes you unique, do so at dramatically better (and increasing) quality, and complete it faster than you ever imagined possible.
In short, let's get ahead of the AI curve - and stay ahead of it:

I took my first look at A.I. this past week. Suspicious at first but soon amazed. Example - working on my first documentary - created material from my own research and experience. This is on slides for now but understand these are passive. I typed in content from said slides and asked A.I. for a documentary script format with specific requirements and for suggestions on how best to utilise slides along with additional footage. While not perfect it has saved me weeks of work and given me so many new ideas and insights into an effective end product.

Haha. Thanks! But don’t worry. I should be back with regular content in a couple weeks. Most of my energy has gone into the private community these past few months because we’ve been in exploration mode. Now that I’ve figured some things out, I’ll be sharing it shortly.

I ran my own outline through GPT and gained invaluable insights about my own work, including discovering some cool comparisons between my work and others', which helps with pitching and honing a vision.

Indeed! One of the many ways we can weave AI into the creative process.

Do i need to have FAST Screenplay to understand Screenwriting Accelerater? or can i get Screenwriting Accelerator independently?
@fastscreenplay
@fastscreenplay Жыл бұрын
The Accelerator is independent of (and different to) FAST Screenplay. In Accelerator we look at how to use AI with the FAST framework, but it’s about techniques and approach and understanding the changing nature of the industry and how to stay ahead of it. FAST Screenplay is a step by step process that guides you through the creative journey without the need for AI. Think of it this way: Accelerator is about weaving AI into your creative process, whereas FAST is about developing the skills to be that fast and intuitive without the need for AI. (It’s not quite as cut and dry as that but it’s a good way to think about the differences.) There is no need to do FAST in order to benefit from Accelerator (and vice versa). Hope that helps. If not, let me know.

I am in Idyllwild Ca. Word is script writers are quitting. Chat AI can not write a script, the EXE's will learn.

Well, then they’ll be missing the greatest opportunity they’ve ever been presented with. Bummer that they don’t have sufficient imagination. But that’s who’ll get weeded out, making room for those who have something genuine to say.

Studios are asking A.I. to spit out whole screenplays, and the results are extremely flawed. Then the studios are telling writers to fix all of the problems with the A.I.'s work. Instead of paying the writer the proper, higher rate for a whole screenplay, the studios are then paying a lower pay rate for "polishing" an "existing script". But the A.I. spits out such bad results, the writer isn't simply polishing another writer's work, they're being forced to do just as much work as writing a true human-made screenplay from scratch would require, a larger amount of work that writers deserve the full script-from-scratch pay rate in exchange for. The economic injustice and the bad art process are guaranteed to make ALL of our lives worse. Your argument is all about "art tools" or "technophobia" as though the WGA is just a bunch of Luddites. They are no such thing, and their anger at being economically and artistically taken advantage of in such an unethical way is ultra-justified.

Don’t worry. I’ve anticipated this perspective and made a video addressing it that I’ll post next week. But for now, you (and the Writer’s Guild) are conflating two issues. The misuse of the technology by the studios is wrong, and should indeed be fought by the WGA. I stand with the WGA. But to blame the technology is to openly admit a complete misunderstanding of the technology. Of course the output is awful if you ask AI to spit out a whole screenplay. That’s not what it’s designed to do, that’s not what it’s good at, and it is entirely expected that that would be the result. Getting writers to “fix” it is indeed wrong and should be fought tooth and nail by the WGA. But vilifying the AI as a response or strategic position is shooting themselves in the foot. They need to get a whole lot more precise with their position if they hope to win the fight. And I am 100% on their side in the fight. Writers deserve respect and fair pay. But they also need to show imagination and nuance. And vilifying AI works against that.

Totally agree that AI doesn't replace humans but makes them more powerful. And there is a lot of fear by some people who do not have enough experience and exposure to it, that AI will take over the world. But for anybody who really works using AI tools, it looks funny. BTW yesterday discovered this channel and it's a real gem!

Thanks! And yes, I agree. If you’re unfamiliar with AI, it looks very scary. But that’s really just projections of our own imagination. The reality is a lot less frightening (not just around creativity+AI but about all of AI), and extremely exciting. I’ve come to realize that I need to get more vocal with what I’ve discovered as I’ve been actually using it. I think the sooner we can get people past the fear, the better for everyone.

AI will write better than the human writers who put out crap, anyway.

Because they're already doing bot-like jobs, so when AI replaces them, it's good IMHO. A long time ago, there were a lot of people operating elevators, but now it seems obviously stupid.

Yep. That’s why I’m hoping to convince writers to use the technology rather than try to compete with it.
