I just introduced my fiance to your channel. She was saying the other day that she would like to get out on the trail to sort of see what it's like just relying on herself. She often goes hiking with me. I introduced her to your channel because you put a great focus on women's comfort on the trail. Plus, I watch your content for the backpacking food ideas in general. Because of you, I no longer waste money on that freezed dried stuff.. keep up the great content and congratulations on your move!

Knew it! As soon as we heard you talking about Missoula a dozen or so videos ago, we figured you’d gotten bit by the bug 😅 We were just there ourselves over New Years (flew in from New Zealand to visit friends). Hard to get Zoo Town out of your heart once it’s made a home there. Hope you have an awesome time adventuring around MT. Check out the Garden of 1000 Buddhas up in Arlee, really neat

Everyone kept telling me it would be a matter of time before I moved here to Missoula after I started visiting. Boy were they right. I love it here! As for the Garden of 1,000 Buddhas - I actually got to visit there back in November. It was awesome. What a fun little attraction not a lot of people know about.

Always be prepared for foul weather, because the storms roll in quickly. Having grown up in Kent, and hiked extensively among the Cascades and Olympics, the thing that impressed me the most after moving to Spokane, and traveling throughout Montana for four decades on business and holidays, is how quickly a sunny Big Sky day can be turned into a tempest. Snow in July and August, no problem.

Great advice. I'm finding already that the weather can change pretty quickly here. Something I'll definitely want to be prepared for as I start to make my way up into the nearby mountains.

So Cool!!! Growing up in Central Idaho, I grew to love Missoula at an early age and, in my later years, have come to appreciate it even more - if that were even possible. It is so much closer than my current Central Orygun home to some of the great areas of western Montana, with the Kalispell/Flathead River Valley to the north and the Bitterroot, Gallatin, and Yellowstone Rivers and the mountains around them being only a relatively short drive away. I'm looking forward to you taking us along on all your new adventures in this beautiful part of the country...

Congratulations on your move and I am convinced we would love to move there too. My wife and I visited Yellowstone and the Tetons a couple years ago and when we came home, we were depressed and longed to go back. We had found what made us happy and felt it was the place for us to be. We soon plan to visit Glacier NP and that may the straw breaking the camel's back to make us move to Montana.

So happy for you! Montana has my heart ❤ especially Missoula. You are living my dream. I stayed there briefly on my way to Yellowstone last year and fell in love. Congrats on the move, buddy! Sounds like an upgrade for sure! Missoula is a fantastic town; Montana has so much to offer. I was glad I took advantage of the OnX Backcountry deal over the holidays, where I got Elite for only 30 bucks. I am in South Dakota for the Winter, so there is no Bear to worry about, but several Mt Lions have been spotted here in the Black Hills, even one on a lady's front porch in Deadwood, SD. I will return to Wyoming, which is also bear country, and what a great idea it is to carry two cans of bear spray. Best Wishes for future adventures in Montana and beyond!

I hike GNP for a week every year. I have relatives and friends all over MT. Not sure why I don't live in MT yet. I hope you love it as much as I do. BTW, the velcro latch on your bear spray was on backwards. @TheHungryHiker yup I can see the other side from where I live in Idaho and have only been able to tap into like 0.5% of them. So much to explore so little time! Congrats on the move you won't regret it! You are also 2 hours away from 2 of the largest wilderness areas in the country.

Congratulations Kathleen! Curious, did you have a job lined up in Missoula, or are you currently looking for employment? Who helped you unload the truck?

I'm self-employed so yes, I already had my job all lined up before moving here. As for unloading the truck, I had a some help from a few friends in town.

Yes, to be fully transparent, I do have a partnership with onX Backcountry, which I am more than happy to promote. I use (and love) this navigation tool and it's been instrumental for me when I'm planning my own hikes and overnight backpacking trips, especially now that I'm in a whole new-to-me area. In addition to onX Backcountry, I've used a few different navigation apps including Gaia GPS and FarOut Guides, all of which I've mentioned in previous videos. Whenever I talk about backpacking gear, services and tools here on my KZfaq Channel, it's only the products and services I actually use. I would never talk about something I don't use myself out on trail in any of my videos. Ad even if I don't love something, I'm more than happy to share those opinions as well here on my channel. A good example of that is my recent "Best & Worst Backpacking Gear I Used on the Pacific Crest Trail This Year" video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rLx6psV7pryvdqM.htmlsi=LPtiVKWcRjvHGZc5

I don't want to be Debbie Downer. Isn't it really cold there in the winter? Doesn't winter last a long time? I'm originally from Colorado, moved to Massachusetts some decades ago. There was a time I liked and looked forward to winter. I'm kind old and greezerly now. Winter is best observed from my dining room with a cup of coffee. I don't like cold, shoveling snow, running a snow blower, or that for much of the winter season it's dark very early. ATB

I guess if you don't like winter and were expecting to move to a beach town, then winters in Montana could be an issue. With winter comes snow capped mountains and snowshoeing adventures. Yes, it's cold here during the winter. This is one of the areas of the country where you get all four seasons. Don't worry. I did my research and knew what I was getting myself into before making the decision to move here. :)

@TheHungryHiker did you ever watch Russ the KZfaqr from the path less pedeled? Him and his wife recently moved from Missoula to Spain. They lived several years in Montana, but wintered in warm weather locals. They were from California, were fond of Portland also. As I said I liked winter once, it got old for me, perhaps not for you.

This is the Grant Creek Trail and most of this pathway is paved and flat, which made for the perfect day hike after being sick for two weeks. Even though it runs parallel to Grant Creek Road for most of the way, it was still quite a beautiful trail.
