Other's fears - boy that's a big one. I've recently starting hiking, walk training and building up my miles. I do have my own fears and it does stem mostly around how others could hurt me or bug me on trail. Other friends know I'm doing this via my posts on FB (which are always after I'm done with my hike), but all I'm hearing is how I need to get a big dog, bear spray and on and on. You put it nicely when you said "having to deal with our own fears and the fears of others too".Thanks for this video, very informative.

When I started telling my friends and family that I wanted to go hiking and backpacking alone, instead of them being excited for me and supportive, I quickly learned about all of the things THEY were afraid of. Apparently my solo adventuring in the backcountry was quite a trigger for a lot of them. We all have fears. We all deal with our fears in our own way. The important thing is to not let our fears and other peoples fears get in the way of what we want to do.

Does the tiny repeller s really work? How much have you used it? We're any of those times in a heavy mosquito area? My husband gets eaten alive and goes through sooo much bug spray 🤣
@TheHungryHiker4 күн бұрын
So far I've used it on one backpacking trip where the bugs were quite an issue at camp. I was happy I had this with me because it helped keep the bugs away and we were able to eat in peace. As someone who always seems to get eaten alive every summer, I'm about to head out to a heavily bug infested area and I'm really excited to put the Tiny Repeller S to the test. I'll report back once I've come back from my trip. I'm hopeful that I won't be eaten alive this year!

Hikers need to learn off Bushcraft people to. Im not carrying fuel. I do firewood. In a titanium stove.
@TheHungryHiker5 күн бұрын
With any kind of stove, you're going to need some type of fuel. If there's any sort of fire/burn ban, you can't have an open flame that uses firewood. Even with a fire/burn ban, hikers are still usually allowed to canister stoves.
@shaynehawkins7135 күн бұрын
@@TheHungryHiker Ok. Smart. I always have my fuel tabs. I've seen this firewood ban elsewhere. But making a fire without is very good to learn.

I am planning my first trip for later this year, but it will only be for 1 night. Do I still need everything you listed?
@TheHungryHiker6 күн бұрын
I say pack whatever makes you comfortable. The gear you pack will really be dependent on where you're going and the type of trip you'll be going on. For example, depending on when and where you're going, you might not need a pair of microspikes or a bug repellant system and you also might not need a hard-sided bear canister.

I typically like to "over-stock" my first aid kit, especially when it comes to medications, if not for me, but if I ever come across anyone on trail who might need help. And yes, I'll be doing a longer section hike this year. This isn't for a typical, overnight trip.

I can no longer watch your videos unless I get a 2nd job. 😂 We have almost identical gear and have been hiking about the same number of years, then you pull out yet another awesome video with things I MUST HAVE. I don't need a poop kit, plastic ziplock has worked for years, but I want one with a funny stinky on the side. I have a nylon med bag, but not one with crossed bandaids on it. I have a light weight thermal bag to warm my food, but it doesn't compress down and I swear it is going to poke a hole in my Mariposa. I just picked up The One a few weeks ago based on your review and our similar gear likes. Also grabbed the 1/8" pad to go under it. I have to put stinky and owwie bags on my gift list now.
