This gives me chills. Being Black, in the hood, and hearing a brother from another world connecting with everything that bothers me, makes me forget we're different. Makes me remember what matters. That's love, support, and sharing emotions. Oliver, stay true my man. The world needs your soul more than ever.

We aren’t from different worlds brother. If WE would all stay true to what is in our own heads and hearts and stop being influenced by society, media, government, friends and family WE all could walk the same path. I’m an old white boy from Wyoming who spent 26 years doing crazy shit all over this planet and I managed to erase all stereotypes and judge by attitude and character only. Cross that line and I don’t care what you are I’ll handle it, everyone else I’ll do what I can to have your back.

What everyone in this country needs to realize, other countries don't see us in the different ways we Define ourselves. To everyone else in this world we are simply Americans. One People. That's why they do their best to keep us all divided because we are 331 million strong.

We need to stop seeing color and see that we are humans trying to make through the next day. We only find peace in life when we finally feel that sweet kiss of death. Let us all stand united in pain to fight back and find light in the dark

@@cliftonlloyd8395if you are currently struggling with addiction. Remember you are not alone. The people in your life that care about you do not encourage you to fail. They push you to better yourself. It hurts to see you doing it to yourself. When you find your way back they will welcome you with open arms. The stuff I was on made me forget to see the good things in life. The things that made me me. I’m happily sober since 8/8/18 I lost everything and found my way back. I’ve had close calls with almost relapsing but it was because I was around people that were using and separating myself from that was what I needed to do. If anyone ever needs a person to talk to I’m a good listener.

I am 75 days sober today. I found this song along the way and listen to it regularly. You have helped in ways I cant explain. Thank you for doing what you do. Update - Today is 6 months. I would like to thank everyone for your kind words. It does get easier with time. Some days I don't even think about it, other days I will be tested. I know I made the right decision in stopping, I just have to remember that every time it crosses my mind. If you're thinking about stopping for good and need a little push, 2 books that have helped me the most are "the small book" by Jack Trimpey, and "the easy way to control alcohol" by Allen Carr. Stopping is worth it.

@@billfrank471No man you are not acting cowardly. Addiction turns thoughts into parasites and then you find yourself reasoning with yourself to do whatever it is your choice of drug because of any inconvenience, the only thing that makes it better is time and I know that’s cliche but time is the best healer. The first 2 weeks are generally the worst physically but more so mentally, the metal part is what gets you especially if you don’t have anything to keep your mind busy. You got this man, don’t beat yourself up so much about breaking your streak that just comes with the territory unfortunately. The main thing is you recognize what the problem is and that right there shows that you’re mentally aware and not in denial cause your thoughts are clouded. Just make it your goal to get through everyday, I feel setting goals which isn’t a bad thing it also sets you up for failure just focus on getting through the present day and before you know it a week will have passed then 2 & 3 and so on. You got this my man!

I just went to the VA for the first time and got out in '07. I came back from Iraq 2 months before I discharged and hit the bottle for the next 15 years. I got sober on my own and at the 6 month mark I decided to seek help from the VA as it became apparent I had some other problems I treated alcohol with. The VA gets a bad wrap but they have been great to me. I wish I'd done it sooner so I could have some of my youth back.

It's been tough" is an understatement, yet I've managed to stay sober through it. At least up till today. I truly believe Rich men north of Richmond is our battle cry. It is meant to bring us together. To give us strength to fight this war that only their side is fighting. Are you ready? It will take all of us to defeat the devil and his cabal and the committee of 300 who serve them.

As for the religious crowd who is here partly because of the nature of the song and partly because its a country vibe. But I just wanna say we have some differences; despite that we have a lot in common. One of my favorite artists of all time beat alcoholism and heroine addiction. And he said "The day I let go of being too rebellious/punk/atheist/anarchist/badass/etc to accept the help being offered in those places was the first day of my life. Today I am free. I might not be tomorrow. Let's not waste time being too damn cool to have a good life. In love and solidarity" So he like myself is an atheist. But accepting help in a 12 step program saved his life. We share a lot in common when it comes to values and common humanity. And I always hope that people don't write off people like myself who are atheist. Because I can tell you we fight a common struggle against communists, socialists, and dangerous ideas and (substances too) that destroy millions of lives. I believe some Christians have said "God writes morality on your heart" Or something like that. Basically when I tell you them I have sense of right and wrong that comes from within (and guilt when I do bad things). They say god wrote these things on our hearts. I don't believe any of that, but I just like to say your my ally if you stand against totalitarianism and for freedom. And I hope we can learn from each other in the resistance of evil powerful people who want more power for themselves. Like I was saying we share a common humanity. And I hope that people of many different religions or lack thereof can live in peace together and work together against evil in the world. Peace Peace everyone.

@@Zero-pe3iqI appreciate your thoughtful comment. My last drink was Feb 13, 2004, and I did rely on the power of the Lord to set me free (through working the 12 Steps) but I do believe there are other paths to sobriety. Even so, I want to offer a challenge to you because whether you believe it or not, your eternity is on the line. Your challenge- Say, “Jesus, if you are who you say you are, reveal yourself to me in such a way that I can no longer deny your existence.” Of course, you have to be open and honest as you say this, but if you are… watch out because your life will change. What do you have to lose? He will show up. Christians aren’t against atheists. You are our target audience, so to speak. Jesus loves you so much you can’t even fathom it.

@@kykategray Thanks. I don't believe in magic or things you can't see. You know like you have to be able to see it and also to study it. You have to know what things are. Just because your see something doesn't mean it is what you think. (Hallucinations are an issue. Dreams also are bad place for data since your brain created the experience of the dream.) And no dead people are gonna help me out. Thanks though. I'm pretty sure your being kind. Also I sure hope Christians aren't against me. That's how I was raised and I've always been around them. Its just I haven't believe any of that in a long time. Some people are very hateful towards atheists. (less common these days) Good that you aren't of course.

Our cities were once beautiful, and our countryside was littered with small charming towns... but it's all gone, city blocks replaced with dilapidation, the woods and country speckled now with mcmansions...and these new homes are built and sold to people from up north who just bring their garbage politics and policies with em. No matter where i am, i feel like a stranger in my own home. We're all hurting out here. I got a wife and kid, yet as a man, i somehow feel like i am alone.

All these comments about getting sober... What I get from this song is it's ok to lose the fight as long as you still have fight in you. The vices we get stuck on have a purpose, and for some of us, the battle rages on till the day we die. It is the battle that we are truly addicted to. The hope that everything can change by making one simple change, the competition against our former selves. The pain, the emptiness, the true feelings we encounter when we battle ourselves over these substances that repeatedly call our names. I will keep battling my vice and allow myself to moderately indulge as much as I see fit. Cheers to everyone struggling with the addictions of life and finding comfort in this song, win or lose, the game is just to keep fighting till the song of life stops playing.

15 years of drinking every day...I finally went to rehab and made it out sober last month. My wife decided to leave me while I was in rehab even though she supported me going and said she couldn't wait for our lives to go on with me sober once I got out. I hit the ground running to get my life back on track. So 6 weeks out of rehab, I have a job I've been working for 3 weeks and have a better job that I am finishing up the hiring process for. I got my bills all caught up, a lot of moving done, my car sorted out, and so much other stuff. I haven't taken any time for myself, and I stay busy in what little free time I have. One thing is for sure. It was a rough journey that almost killed me, but I will make the best of it this go around. Anyone who has been through it, I feel for them. It's hard to risk giving up everything knowing you might have to start over...but it's worth it. You have to save yourself first.

Musicians don't make it, unless they play the game. This man doesn't want to play anyone's game. I did just hear that John Rich offered him the ability to professionally record his song and distribute. I pray they don't run it.

When the pupil is ready, the teacher will appear. I feel that God brought Oliver to us when we were ready to receive him and his music. He tells stories of the common man and woman who struggle daily just to pay the bills and eat. Who can’t afford to go to a fancy detox clinic to get sober. By Gods grace I’m 10 years sober and I thank God every day. John Rich will help this young man stay true to himself. John is a good man and an amazing patriot. May God bless you Oliver and may we be blessed with your music.

My husband was an alcoholic for many years, even before I knew him. He was a man who kept himself locked up inside, but loved his soul music, and a fisherman at heart. He took a gun to his head, killed himself. That was before all this with Covid and all this insanity with our Freedoms took place. I know he would have loved your songs. With all these comments maybe you could have helped him in some way. So young man keep touching people’s hearts and souls with your words and music. Your just getting started. So glad you are still with us too and refused some of those offers from people who destroy people like you. ❤

At 68, I've been sober since March 7th, 1996, when I accidently killed my best dog from a stupid mistake. It almost killed me, too, but God saw fit to spare me, with help from my local VA hospital, and I thank Him for that. I thank you for reminding me of the value and achievement of sobriety all over again. Keep writing, you inspire us all to be better, one day at a time. Peace.

Then it all hit me one day and about lost everything. I since stopped drinking and found the words in the good book. Its saved my family and my life. Thanks brother for your music keep it up!!!!

AMEN BROTHER. GOD LOVES US MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE. HE SENT HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON TO DIE FOR OUR SINS AND EVEN WHEN WE FALL SHORT HE DOESN'T. EVEN IF I DIE AND IM NOT SOBER HE SAVED MY SOUL. WE CAN NEVER BE PLUCKED FROM HIS HAND OR SEPARATED FROM HIS LOVE. WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. TO HIM WHO WORKS NOT BUT BELIEVES ON THE ONE WHO JUSTIFIES THE UNGODLY HIS FAITH IS COUNTED AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOM GOD WON'T IMPUTE SIN. WE MAY KNOW WE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE BECAUSE WE HAVE BELIEVED ON THE NAME OF THE SON OF GOD. WE HAVE BELIEVED THE RECORD GOD GAVE OF HIS SON. One thing I realized recently after a long period of being upset with God, is that sometimes while we are waiting on him to intervene, He’s waiting us to stand up and reach for where He is. Take a couple of steps forward, and He’ll handle the rest.
