I've never heard of this rule "where you lose the point". I can't understand what the reasoning behind it is. Do you know why? If someone wants to take that chance, I say go for it. Would love to see 4 on 4 with no goalies. lol
@maekoh
@maekoh 2 ай бұрын
@@darpompie4354 Cause then you'd see more and more teams do it the minute they get possession knowing they'll get a point regardless. Whereas here it's a huge risk that gives you an advantage, but nets you with nothing if it backfires.

@darpompie4354 2 ай бұрын
@@maekoh I still don't get it. The point of overtime is to get the other point too. I am not sure what the statistics are when pulling a goalie. I would think that more empty net goals are scored over game tying goals so the odds are against you when you pull the goalie. All it takes is an interception after a shot is taken and you are almost guaranteed an empty net goal. You can argue about in one way or the other but to make a rule just to discourage it is a little over the top if you ask me. It sure would make it more exciting if it happened more often.
@maekoh
@maekoh 2 ай бұрын
@@darpompie4354 Cause a 4 on 3 is an extreme advantage in an OT and if this rule wasn't in place, every team would do this once they get possession. The only reason they don't is cause the risk of losing both points is greater than just being scored on and still keeping a point. If you're going to get an extremely big advantage, you should have higher consequences if it doesn't work. Imagine being the opposing team having to play a man down for an entire OT (barring whistles ofc), and still only ending up with a 1 point difference.
@darpompie4354
@darpompie4354 2 ай бұрын
@@maekoh I'm not so sure teams would take the chance as much as you think they would. In the after game interviews. Players and coaches didn't even know that they would lose the point if the other team scored so clearly not something that is strategized often. I agree a 4 on 3 is a huge advantage over 5 on 4 power play. But that is assuming there is a goalie on the other end. With no goalie, you are also taking a huge chance because if you lose possession, there is a lot of room out there to easily take it to an empty net. Anyways, thanks for informing me why the rule was put in place.

I watch both KHL and NHL so I've watched 4 on 3 OT a lot of times in KHL(in KHL you don't lose a point if your opponent scores in an empty net). This strategy is actually valid if you have talented players who can provide good puck control (two 4-player brigades). Like I've literally seen only 1 or 2 empty net goals and in other cases (about 20) either team scores like Minnesota did or another team survives but it is really exhausted by the end of OT.

On Tuesday next week he heads to Michigan to the NTDP camp. Considering he is a first generation American in our family, we were so honored that he could be on team USA and represent our wonderful country. We were all born and raised in Africa and it never snows there and almost no one has ever been to an ice rink, field hockey is about as good as it gets… but definitely not even close to ice hockey. The only time it make sense to risk the guaranteed point would be if you need a ROW on the last day of the season to get a playoff spot. This was a pure gamble that paid off. Can you imagine what the coach looks like if Nashville wins the game? And yes, I know "but they didn't". To which I reply, "they definitely could have"... so that is not a valid argument.

A few years ago, the Bruins almost had a situation where, due to ROW and tiebreakers, in the final game of the year, an OT win would have sent them to the playoffs, but going to a shootout win or loss would have eliminated them. I was hoping to see if they'd pull their goals in OT for that reason, but the penguins had won already, making it a moot point.
