Today we take on the most famous fish & chips challenge in the USA that has been around for over 10 years and attempted thousands of times! We are at Shakespeare Pub in San Diego California trying to join the few winners of this fried fish eating challenge. This place is a British pub / English pub serving all kinds of UK food / British food and fair! The rules for this seafood challenge are simple, you get 45 minutes to complete a giant piece of beer batter cod, 2lb of chips (fries), a bowl of peas (not mushy pea's), with all the standard British fixings like vinegar, lemon, tartar sauce, and "English mustard". If successful, you get the $40 fish supper challenge for FREE, a post on their online wall of fame (which is not actually ever updated) and a sweet t-shirt!

Joel, us English do not eat chips with mustard ! Salt, malt vinegar, ketchup or brown sauce and tartar sauce with the fish.

We don't mash the potatoes for chips, just peel them, cut to size and double fry them preferably in beef dripping. We sprinkle salt and vinegar over the whole meal (used to be served in newspaper) and some like ketchup or tartar sauce with it and of course you would have bread and butter and a cup of tea with it if eating from a plate. The best potatoes for chips are the Maris Piper variety.

hey joel, british girl here! most decent chip shops will actually offer both mushy peas and garden peas. same in pubs, we usually have a choice. i like both, but i normally go for garden peas (unless i'm drunk, haha!)

Hey Joel, wonder why you call the Chips "Mashed potato sticks"? Chips are cut from whole potato, pre blached either in water or oil, then fried 1 or 2 more times depending on who makes them, but they are certainly not mashed. It's the blanching that gives them the soft fluffy texture in the middle
