Actually, that would be impractical since every time you reboot your pc your RAM is cleared and you would have to never reboot the pc to keep it.

Just bought 2 of these a few months back, nice to see a video released on it. One thing to note, as of right now these dimms only work with xeon gen 2 CPUs ifirc, you cant just plop these guys in your desktop and expect them to run. [I tried :(] That said, if you have compatible hardware and bios, these puppies usually run about $2/GB on ebay, basicly half off or less than what linus quoted.

It still amazes me that when I was doing my Computing and electronics course back in '96 We theorised the possibility of stacking cpu cores as you can only go so small with technology before hitting a physical limit on processing the microscopic lanes and using cache ram like storage instead of magnetic storage. And here we are today.. It is near as damn it a reality. I like to think that I called it (possibly with a number of others) a long time ago.

In all seriousness, the memory on this beast is at the level that a lot of FPGA developers are really going to enjoy. Back four years ago 64 gb was a bare minimum for synthesizing designs on some of the larger chips, and they've only been increasing in size.

13:16 I had this "hardware reserved" problem once with my pc aswell! (I put in another dual channel memory kit) Well in my case a bios update and some windows settings did the trick..

I've seen enterprise servers like this with ZERO external USB ports. Everything like that is through the lights out management network now. More computing bits inside replacing the USB hardware. Added 10/25gb FIBER network connections to the back of the machine. I'd rather have those than a couple of USB ports to be honest.

I am guessing given there will be a healthy markup over just the value of the components, sold as is, it is probably closer to $100,000 but includes a mighty tech support contract to go with it.

If you're using Windows 10 Pro, it maxes out at 2TB of RAM. Windows 10 Pro for Workstation caps out at 6TB. Windows Server, other than essentials, will go up to 24TB.
