I’ve NEVER Used Pre-Mixed Pouring Paint 😳 How Does It Compare?

I’ve been fluid painting since 2019, but I have NEVER opened a bottle of pre-mixed paint until today! Today I’m trying out a box of Lightwish Metallic Pouring Paints, to see how they work.
While this set was very easy to use straight out of the box, I do prefer the customizability of my home-mixed paints. Here’s how I typically mix paint: • Mixing Paint for Acryl...
Do you have a favorite brand of pouring paint?
Here’s what was included in the box:
4oz Lava Red
4oz Gold
4oz Aqua Green
4oz Blue
4oz Violet Pearl
4oz Ice Silver
4oz Black
4oz White
2 plastic tablecloths
Disposable gloves
You can find this particular set here! bit.ly/3hFSkEI

Thank you, I’m brand new to this art form, starting with premixed paints and this is the video I’ve been looking for…with amounts of paints to canvas size, and all the great details you’ve given here. Thanks so much. I feel like I can give it a try now and begin. I look forward to seeing more of your videos over time. Really, thank you so much.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I started my journey just over two years ago. Used a different brand of premixed paints to start. Ultimately ended up mixing my own and will continue to do so.

I bought a kit, did not know i had a choice of premix. I had trouble with preparing thr paint, but I did 4 pours, none of them were what I expected. Very hard to get the txt right as a beginner never have before painted anything but my walls. I think I will try the ready to pour. It would make my experience more relaxed. Enjoyed your video

Hi thanks for video. I got a set of Mont Marte premixed paints because I am just starting. I do find variations in the consistency which makes it difficult for a beginner I think. They seem much thicker than your brand.
@AnnaBlountArt
@AnnaBlountArt 5 ай бұрын
Good luck as you are starting out! Having thicker paints is probably a good thing, and you can thin as needed 😊

I started out with a set of pants similar to this and mix them with equal parts flow trawl and they did not send down they just extended. I never tried them with silicone but I wonder if the metallics just don’t do so well with cell production to begin with.
@AnnaBlountArt
@AnnaBlountArt Жыл бұрын
I think it’s less that metallics can’t do cells, and just that different pouring mediums make cells more easily. Floetrol is great for easy cells, especially along with silicone.

So glad I was finally able to watch this video!! I would be curious how other brands compare to this one. I absolutely LOVE how the colors did though!! I have not tried the premixed pour paints either. To me I just cannot justify the extra cost but would be excited to try this at least once!

I love how methodical you are. In my opinion, an advantage to pre-mixed paint would be to use as a baseline for someone new to fluid art. For example: "If you're doing a ring pour, look at this.. You want your paints just a little thicker than that" or to demonstrate how much or how little silicone you want to use. in this brand of paint. The boundary that fluid art pushes in me is that there are no boundaries, that you have to "go with the flow." Mixing my paint does give me a modicum of control in the process, and I'm with you on that point.
@AnnaBlountArt
@AnnaBlountArt Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I mean…you can do ring pours with thick paint, medium paint, or thin paint, it’ll just give you different effects with each. So it’s hard to say across the board what’s better or worse.
@RebekahSue

@@AnnaBlountArt Oh, I get that. It's hard to explain... I guess what I'm saying is that once you shake that bottle of purple pre-mixed paint, that's its consistency. You don't have to take into consideration whether you got a bad batch of Floetrol (I got some bad US Floetrol last year), or whether you're using Amsterdam or Artist Loft, or the temperature of one's studio. Every time you open a bottle from that brand and shake it (metallic paint settling?), that's the static consistency.

I have found the premixes I have tried (various brands) are too thin, so canvas shows through and very little cell activity. I prefer making my own.
@AnnaBlountArt

I will prob'ly give some ready-to-pour paints a try. I don't like to use silicone tho, due to the cleaning before varnishing factor, so guess I won't get the cells that you did....
@AnnaBlountArt

Yes they do make it very easy, but probably not many cells.

How many 10x10 can those bottles of paint do?
@AnnaBlountArt

It’s 32 ounces of paint total, so if you used it 100% efficiently you could get 5-6 10x10” paintings out of it.
