I’ve only gone and bought a Gorleston beach hut!

Welcome to the beautiful East Norfolk coast! In this video I talk about the gradual development of 70 new beach huts along the Lower Esplanade at Gorleston-On-Sea in Norfolk, UK, by Great Yarmouth Borough Council.
I also assess the whole scheme and local reaction to it, as well as talking about my own efforts in trying to hire or buy one of the new beach huts - and what is involved.
The video was filmed on different dates during September and October 2022 using my Apple iPhone 13 Mini. Commentary by Ian M Bullock. I eventually took possession of my beach hut on October 28, 2022.

When these were first launched, the Ts & Cs on these were horrendous. Far too expensive, high ground rent and only lease hold. Not sure how it is now.

Love the sunglasses Ian . A well put together video as always... I think the huts look fantastic and are a great addition to Gorleston . I remember the old huts that end , there weren't many . A lady I knew called Hazel owned one , she was a piano teacher who taught my brother well in her 60s at the time . Sadly no longer with us after being hit by a car on her bike along Middleton road ...not the drivers fault I might add . Anyway they were destroyed by vandals and never replaced . They were basically garden sheds with a flat roof , none uniform. It does make me wonder though....I wonder what ground rent they had to pay ? If any .... when you look at really old pictures of gorleston beach, there were wooden huts everywhere on the beach itself . I've often wondered of the legalities at the time and what has changed now in regards to pitching a hut on the sand . I'm very pleased you got your hut Ian , quite a one off opportunity with only two left . I'm sure you will have a visit from my son and I in the spring.

Oh question cause I keep seeing mixed answers, are you aloud to sleep overnight in them? I keep seeing a lot of people saying no. And if you can’t…then what’s the point? 😂

No. Overnight camping is forbidden in the lease. You just enjoy them during the day with your family and friends. They are not holiday accommodation. Ian B x

@@TheIanBullock interesting. What’s the point in them then? Not trying to be rude, I’m American so I don’t kno what your beaches are like there. Here on our public beaches we have bath houses where u can shower and change and you can bring coolers and sometimes small grills on the beach to eat. U can put up little tents and stuff on the beach while ur there for the day. Do they not allow those things/have those things on your public beaches?
