"If he really didn't love you then he wouldn't have married you" …. How ignorant and small minded are these guests. You can marry out of lust, out of greed, out of boredom, out of infatuation, out of revenge, out of pressure, and also for money. I'm so sick of Hello Counselor trying to forge two incompatible couples together. I can guarantee you that the couples will still continue to fight when they go home. Like stated by the wife -- *He always gives a half-hearted apology. He's just apologizing to make it go away* which leads to the possibility that all of this could have been an act in attempt to make the problems go away.

I agree but she specifically said "at the point when you told him about being pregnant he wouldn't have married you if he didn't love you." Which has a slightly different meaning behind how you interpreted it. It's still not necessarily accurate. Lots of couples get married specifically because culturally and religiously they feel they have to if they have a child together.

That woman in the yellow shirt giving the most terrible advice to existence "you must lower your expectations". The only thing I heard from this was "lower your standards and accept everything trash this man does to you". We women are always the ones that have to hold the shit and eat it with a smile on our faces just to save a worrying marriage and always make our sad of an excuse husbands happy forever. It always disturbs me how the forgiving, intellectual advice has to go to the wife, daughter, girlfriend; woman. IT tells that 1) the man is hard to change 2) you are more mature (or should be more mature) so you could live somewhat satisfied while the man can be just as childish and angry as ever. Please ladies, never listen to such advice. Always make your expectations higher, make him change for you, not the other way around. We always compensate for men since the day we were born. "Don't wear this they will think derogatory of you" "Don't act this way they will think less of you" "You must become a good cook so any man will want to have you" and these are just examples of our normal, daily lives just to show you how we always compensate. What he was doing to his wife, especially in the most vulnerable stage in her life, was puke worthy. I am so sad for her and I hope if she chooses to stay with him, just at least for the sake of the baby, that he will change the way he acts towards her.

No, her advice wasn't bad. Marriage is about compromise, give and take and putting someone else before yourself sometimes. It's not about a man worshipping his wife as she steps all over him. It's not about a woman living life only to please the husband. Sometimes people expect a perfect guy but everyone's human, and everyone screws up, and if that girl expected the immature dude to become Mr. Perfect suddenly and make no mistakes and mature up so suddenly just because she had a baby, it's a little unrealistic. What the woman in the yellow was saying was that if you expect to end up with someone who will check off all the boxes on your "ideal man" list, you'll probably end up alone or angry at everyone for falling short of it. Setting standards that are impossible for others to live up to or despising others who are trying but are not living up to the standards you set is a little unreasonable. It seems the wife got angry and bitter every time the husband did not do what she expected him to do or wanted him to do, rather than communicating with him and maturely explaining the situation. And the husband is just your typical man-child. Both the husband and wife seem to be impulsive and selfish and honestly if the woman wants a better man, she should be a better woman. So should the guy. The man just seems young and immature like a college/high school kid, and the woman seems to have a spiteful and bitter personality.

Korea is totally different... It's not like women doesn't want to, but rather they are limited. Korea workforce consist of mostly males and females are expected to stay home and be a mother. In addition, women cannot climb the workforce ladder easily because of the conception that they will get married, have a child and quit eventually. Their pay is also lower, hence the stigma of divorce. Children without parents also get mocked and bullied in school.. Yet their abortion rate is one of the highest, the school clearly isn't doing anything to educate their students well.

@josiepinches7334

Whilst the two do need to divorce, especially by western standards, Korean culture often frowns down upon and shuns single mothers whether or not she is co-parenting with the father (and the father clearly is struggling with adapting to being a natural father/ fatherhood as a whole) so Hello Counselor would obviously take the viewpoint of Korean Society. Also, they perhaps want the child to have a typical masculine figure in the household as is expected of Koreans. The child is a huge factor in the divorce and if they were to try and work it out then the child wouldn't have to deal with the problems of seeing the father and mother living separately and being frowned upon/ bullied severely

linger368 yes. She isn't innocent in this either. They both are to blame and they go tit for tat. He mentioned that when they went on the trip he asked if she was safe for sex and she said yes which clearly isn't true since she got pregnant in 3 months. A baby is a huge responsibility so I don't blame the guy for feeling apprehensive. Maybe he intended on proposing,being engaged for a while, then get married, be married for a while then have a baby. But to go from just dating to married with a kid in less than a year is a huge change. Both need to re-examine their expectations for each other.

So many comments saying don’t spread your legs before marriage. But the main issue I see in a lot of these therapy couples is the fact that they got together because it was comfortable. They were finally in a relationship and rushed to marriage without fully getting to know if they were compatible with their partner. So many unhappy marriages that people are too scared to leave because it’s ingrained in their culture.

Given that their personalities clash, it would've ended if she hadn't gotten pregnant. I can understand both sides. Neither of them were ready for this to happen, especially the husband; it looks like he never wanted kids in the first place. The wife should definitely leave him and find someone better who would be willing to love to her and the baby. Although, that's unlikely, given the marriage culture in Korea.

You can get divorced marriage isn't a prison sentence. If it's bad you can get out of it. My parents divorced when I was little and both moved on to better relationships. My mum remarried and had another child too. Most important thing is to not rush into getting married in the first place which is where my parents went wrong. Take time getting to know each other. Don't give up your independence either so that you can afford to stand on your own two feet should things turn bad and always maintain good communication as that's why many relationships fail.

When a person is constantly let down because they have too many and too high of an expectation, it doesnt matter if the other person is trying or improving because it will just look like disappointment from the other side. I came to realise recently that marriage is not something that everyone can go through completely. You cannot imagine the effort you have to put into the marriage, how understanding and loving you have to try and even when you don’t want to be or can’t. Marriage is about pulling through together and not something you can just break between two people, it’s a real commitment and in need to communication. Though it may seem hard work, but it can be a really beautiful thing if two people really learn to love one another. Because I know and have seen the difficulties in marriage, I know I’m not ready/mature to just get married like that.

when you tell a woman to get an abortion that is worse than hitting them and cursing at them. I have been there. At 17 years old I was getting ready to give birth to my first born and only son and his father told me to get an abortion. I had to explain to him that it was to late. I only had a month to go before my son was born. After that I stressed out every day that he was going to find away to get rid of my son. because of that stress I gave birth 2 weeks early. I was in the hospital over christmas/winter break. I was alone even though he would come and visit (for about 5 minutes) every day. My family would not even drive to visit me (my mother was in prison for arson and attempted murder), grandma Ruth lived to far away and my aunts really did not like me at the time. My foster parents had other children to worry about. By the way I was in the labor and delivery room most of the day and night by myself. If I remember right I gave birth with no one there with me. The father came afterwards and even named our son. After I turned 18 years old I married his father and had 2 girls 2 years apart from each other. After 8 years of marriage I was done being an physical and verbal punching bag for him. Sometimes you just have to leave for your own safety.

Exactly !! its such a practical point of view. The argument of abortion being murder is beyond me. I dont know, too big an issue. But practically it makes sense , not to bring a life into the world that a person is incapable of being responsible for. Actually a person should do everything with in their grasp not to have babies before they are ready. It not fair all around. Its not fair to the grand parents who have to babysit , its not fair to the baby , its not fair to the spouse who doesnt want the baby in the first place. But its such a difficult situation to be in. I wish them well because i wouldn't know what to do either.

@@yasminabdu2569 I honestly don't understand why people make such a big deal when it comes to abortion and call the one who wants to get an abortion a murder or something like that. First of all, if someone chooses not to get an abortion then okay,good job, live your life how you want to, but there are also people who actually choose to get an abortion because of different circumstances and I think that people shouldn't go around and call them murderers because of this. Second of all, in the period when abortion is still available, there isn't even a human being formed inside of the organism, the "baby" it's just a couple of cells that haven't had any progression whatsoever and they can't be consudered a human being yet,so the one that gets an abortion doesn't "kill a baby" because there is no baby formed at that period

I think the crux of their problem comes down to the fact that they just haven't known each other for very long. I agree with Byul here, they each need to drop whatever preconceived ideas they had about what a wife or a husband is supposed to be and meet each other where they're at then move forward from there. I think there's a way through their problems, but it will take a lot of patience, commitment, and communication. It seems neither is really willing to put that effort in though, so it could go either way. But it seems a bit early simply to give up on the marriage, especially when they haven't really tried to make it work.

This was such an intelligent reply! Too many comments here were way fatalistic and absolute and human relationships are never black and white, that’s what makes them so complex and beautiful and tragic. Hope these two somehow make it through and serve as inspiration that relationships take hard work to plow through the seemingly impossible.

No. There's no inherent value in keeping a marriage. Why stay together when they can find someone they're more compatible with? It's like eating a rotten fruit when there are thousands of fresh ones around you. "If you eat pills and drink lots of water, you won't die from the rotten fruit". NO! Just throw that fruit away and get another one!

I actually agree with the panel this time in the episode saying that they can make the marriage work. I don't think that she was a rebound or anything and I believe that he actually does like her and she likes him, just that all the frustration and miscommunication has piled up and they both don't realize that they're in this together. It's odd to think for some people I know but sometimes people make the wrong decision when they have so much anger in them towards a person (like when he didn't help when her pelvic bone was dislocated), but it also doesn't make it right. I hope they move past the mistakes and realize that they're in the same team and not on opposite ends.

I actually agree with the program, they can be happy, he is trying, the pregnancy time is hard for everyone and of course they were gonna fight a lot, but putting love to the situation can fix it, they are a family now, he stay the whole time and even got emotional talking about their baby, they need time, love and patience and they're gonna be really happy with their new cute baby. Best of luck for they, they are gonna grow up together, it's sweet actually.

My mom was married in young age. She had no happiness during her marriage, she spent her life to survive with a bad man. My father is not responsible, temperament and easy to underestimated my mom. Many times I was being witness for their quarrel, There is no reason to stay with unmature man. many stigmas in our socaity that , " Marriage is the final of your love, and survive in your relationship it mean you keep your love and your children! ". No it's not ,if you meet with a bad guy leave him. Bcz Not only you but your children would feel a house like a hell, they might have traumatic or involve in toxic relationships bcz they could't find what a real love is.

If abortion is said to be illegal in South Korea, then why did the husband ask his wife to get an abortion?? I really sympathise with the wife.
@mrsxierox9

They're hypocrites. They made abortion illegal to make their country look morally upright, but there are still over 300,000 abortions there every year. Just like how their government made porn illegal, but everyone still watches it, they made prostitution illegal to make themselves look good, but the majority of Korean men use prostitutes and there are brothels open everywhere. The police just turn a blind eye to it. Unfortunately it's all about appearances there, not how things actually are.

H. L. i've noticed this as well. There are a lot of contradictions when it comes to Korean law and social norms. Not to say America is perfect either (we definitely aren't), but it's like Korea is a nation that normalizes pre-marital sex while simultaneously demonizing it. As you said, porn is technically illegal but it doesn't stop anyone from watching it. And people fuss over whether their significant other has had a lot of "experience" or not as if it were a bad thing, but then there are a huge number of 'love motels' (aka a place specifically for people who need a place to have sex).
