Ruff... please share whatever and whenever you feel like talking about things you're are passionate about. I hate this cliche phrase, but this video was indeed a breath of fresh air. It's just you expressing yourself about something we can see you clearly thought about. No fluff, no over the top intros or fake mannerisms, no... "character exaggerations". Do you know what I mean? There are those photos which people pose for, every little detail is a fake posture to get "just the right picture", they add filters, they edit the whole thing... And then there are those photos we take, not exactly planned, the person may even pose for it but it's a pose conveying who they are, not only what they look like and want to look like. Those are the photos which capture a moment, an essence of something. Natural. Genuine. And those are usually the ones we really love and connect to. The internet needs more content like this. With unique style and taste related to real people being themselves through their artistic take and perspective. Anyways, typed to much. Hope to see more 10sec or see 10min videos, I'll be here either way.

Donda came out right around the messy end of a relationship and a psych wward stay for me. The album had me on "Jail" from "Single life aint so bad", and never let go. DONDA is one of Ye's best musical statements ever, and it's TPAB levels of personal for me.

@@ruffcriminal the album starting with Jail basically is perfect for the message he's trying to convey. Living in the stadium, room looks like prison, free Larry Hoover/gang leader, Kanye compares journey of mental/spiritual prison he feels he is in to litteral jail and many of the featured rappers talk about gang violence or beefs. Also Come to Life ends with the words I'm Free... from Jail track one. Just suggest you listen to the album again with that context. Most of Kanye albums since MBDTF have a similar structure of him starting off more in his ego or unenlightened ex Bleached b-holes, and end with him with more clarity through his mistakes. Watching the Throne is an excellent youtube channel and podcast to understand his albums better, so if you're a big fan ,I guarantee you will enjoy and appreciate Kanye more after listening, they litterally analyze all of his songs and albums and put them in context. Your content is great too btw just like sharing because I'm a Ye stan.

I personally interpret the black cover not as a “make your own album cover,” but as a phone screen. Yeezus was a open casket funeral for CDs, it was a cd album JIK was an old school gospel record, it was a vinyl Donda is an album for the playlist generation, it’s a phone screen, which kind of goes to your point of play with it yourself I completely agree with your analysis otherwise

@readymade83
@readymade83 2 жыл бұрын
When you said that watching Kanye on SNL was the moment you "got" hip hop/rap, I had the same moment. I bought Yeezus based off that performance, listened to it when I got home and then it all kind of made sense. I opened up to much more hip hop/rap after that, going back through the golden ages and trying to stay current. Kanye and Kendrick did that for me, Kendrick's performance the following year also blew my mind. The reason I signed up for Spotify was to hear TLOP since it wasn't going to be a physical album and that was crazy to hear when it first dropped. Plenty of people give me shit for digging Kanye just because they don't like him as a person, granted I may not care for Kanye's personal life that he projects to the entire world but he makes some amazing art and that's what pulls me back. I gave Donda one full listen when it was released and I haven't gone back to it since, I need to go back to it and give it another chance.

Loooved this shit, absolutely would love to see more of these deeper dives. 🔥🔥🔥 The way you tied the idea of the "living album" to the Donda stem player is something i had never thought of before but goddamn it makes total sense. To add to the pool of theories and I remember one going around in between LP2 and LP3 about each LP representing each plane of existence in the afterlife, LP1 is hell, LP2 is purgatory, and LP3 would be paradise/heaven. Most of those theories long died out before LP3 but considering Kanye's entire relationship with his mom and LP3 centering around his childhood home, maybe they were onto something. 🤷‍♂️

I was at the second listening party in Atlanta. Extremely moving, interesting, and fun experience. Love how the rollout is equally as thematic and meaningful as the album: the black fashion, the mask, the prison like environments, the criminals (DaBaby and Manson). One could even highlight the Free Hoover concert as “in theme” with Donda due to the forgiving of Drake and the prison reform message.

What I always love about your channel is how even though it started out as a bit of a meme with the 10 second format, the lack of depth or discussion within the videos made people talk about the albums more than a formal review that often times are approached as if there’s an objectively correct answer. It’s very communal. Though this video is longer, it still accomplishes the same thing. This is what I wish music discussion was more like. It’s very cool hearing you talk about the album like this. As for Donda, a lot of what you said about the sequencing, track selection, and other tiny changes also applied to me as well. I thought the album was sequenced horribly, is way too long, and I also have a bunch of specific critiques for individual songs. Without getting into the specifics, I thought I’d share what my track list would be. SIDE A 1. Donda Chant 2. 24 3. South Carolina 4. Ok Ok 5. Praise God 6. Off The Grid SIDE B 1. Jonah 2. Keep My Spirit Alive 3. Never Abandon Your Family 4. Hurricane 5. Moon SIDE C 1. Life of The Party 2. Pure Souls 3. Jesus Lord SIDE D 1. God Breathed 2. Heaven and Hell 3. Believe What I Say 4. hey Ruff, absolutely LOVED hearing your thoughts about the album! even though I'd consider ye my favourite artist of all time as well, it felt like I just asked a friend at the bar 'hey, why do you like that DONDA album so much?' and then heard about Kanye and the rollout for the very first time - felt very unscripted and straight from the heart. would love to see you talk about more stuff you like for longer than 10 seconds!

You are absurdly well-spoken sir. I also was really impacted by Donda along with it’s rollout and I agree that this album was a real standout moment culturally of 2021.

I promptly made my own version of donda after hearing about yours, I had so much fun picking out the specific order for tracks, but ultimately I kept the same tracks you kept but put them in a different order.

Felt less like a review and more like a short podcast, a very personal and in dept approach. I enjoyed it and will be listening to donda with your review in mind.

Thank you for finally talking about the “living” aspect of donda cuz no ones talking about it kanye changed the way I think about a piece of music or art and if a final version of a song even exists in the digital era

this is so epic. i love kanye, and i love this album. i never knew about the stem player, incredible! Andre 3000's verse on Life of the party is worth a thousand words. Kanye and who he works with are just painting beautiful audio waves for us. true pablo picasso. I've recently discovered frank ocean, i know im late. But the vibes of this and frank in my playlists is just amazing, they are futurists for real. jesus lord, come to life, new again, praise god etc, there are so many to recommend, this album just feels so good to listen to lolol. such a strong message i could gush all day about everything, but this video was very nice to watch thank you, very informative surprisingly. you said you wanted to talk so here, need more random 10 min vids, such a treat lol, also still learning so much music from the 10 sec reviews, just keep going please thank you buddy. sorry for bad english, im american.
