Many years ago, my then teenaged granddaughter was visiting, and after opening the driver's door for my wife, I walked around and opened the door for her as well. I did not know it at the time, but she was shocked since this was something that she wasn't used to. She told me later that it opened her eyes to her value, and that she added that to what she was looking for in a partner. I am pleased to say that she ended up choosing well, and i am proud to have played a small part in that.

Point of order… if it please the council. My understanding is that the youngling in question has not yet received his man card due to being on probation until he has proven himself worthy. I therefore propose that the accused be given an extensive remedial class. I also propose that the mentor of this individual come under immediate review for failure to properly train the next generation… how say the high council.

I USED to be the gentleman with ALL women/girls growing up as I was taught. I've spend most of my life doing this even when those women/girls didn't act like Ladies should (and how I was taught Ladies should and how my sisters were taught how Ladies should act) We even all went to manners school and finishing schools here in the South. So I had a clear understanding how 'traditional men and women SHOULD act in society and with each other, even behind closed doors. while this may have applied in past generations of dating. with 'modern, boss babe, independent, 'I don't need no man' women' this chivalry no longer applies... they wanted 'equality' and 'to be treated just like a man', thus we now treat them like men. I don't open doors for my male friends, I don't cover the check for my male friends, I don't gossip on the phone with my male friends, I don't 'cover the bills' for my male friends, I don't get flowers for my male friends, I don't give up my seat for my male friends, and I don't go shopping or antiquing with my male friends.... NOW, IF they want to go back to being 'traditional' women, We'll go back to being 'traditional' men.... chivalry and all...

I'm with you, Dad. Your recommendation for realigning this young fellow has great merit and should be considered. However, I believe the Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. The boy does need remedial training, though, no doubt. As a long-standing member of the Boomer wing of the Man council, I might point out this youngster may not yet be serious about his dating regimen. He appears to believe he is still the main character in his little drama and has yet to grasp he has become an NPC when he decided to "date." I think his punishment is simply to endure what he has wrought by his own hand, with no opportunity to escape. Place him in a controlled environment... controlled by the lady of his choice... and allow nature to take its course. What say you?

I’ve opened a lot of doors for a lot of ladies. Every time I’ve done it for a woman who’s older than me she is grateful and treats me like I’m a gentleman. Every time I’ve done it for someone around my own age or younger they at best make fun of me and don’t appreciate it, but more often they get mad and treat me like it’s misogynistic. Chivalry is dead among the youth because young women killed it.

The problem is there is this misconception and society that equality equals the exact same product when really, equality between men and women means that although we are different, what we both bring to the table is equally important It means that men don’t need to treat women like men, just respect that although what we bring is not the same as what a man would bring and will a man can’t bring with a woman brings, we need each other and we need both So get out and open the door, you’re not being sexist if you do that

There are so many reasons for why men should have the cutesy of many things they do. Like walking toward the road side of a sidewalk. Safety as well as well, women are considered open for the taking if she walks on the roadside. And I am sorry, but men if you can't find it in your hearts to kindly get out of the car to open the door for her... The women will then assume your just lazy and not worth going on another date with. If a women is expected to do her part, you must do yours. I would of turned around and walked inside without another though nor another date. I don't do lazy as I expect a man hopes that I am not lazy as well. But again the way these young ones are being taught in this day and age... I blame it all on the parent and the lack of communication and honor and respect parents should and need to teach there kids. Just saying. A good man knows his place and respects others as he respects his self. And that was just disrespectful in my opinion. Better yet if I have been dating someone who eventually does that, he may have a longer ear lobe once I am through pulling his lazy rear end out of that car and teaching him how to respect me and women in general. Believe me, no man has ever or would ever treat me with such regard like that. But again I am a Gen Xer as well.

Just as there was greater adherence to the Chivalric Code in the Before Times, so to did the fairer ones pay heed to it's counterpart. Men who behaved as louts were turned away from the civilized circles. Womenfolk weren't all to behave as damsels in distress, but there were certain limits to behavior. One could actually be charged as a 'harridan'. It was a situation best avoided.

As a Gen X female I was raised being taught this way. It is called, "Courting" when a male seeks the attention of a female. He was to be more than just "courteous" in manner but was to be "courtly" in manner, address, and action. Anything less is unacceptable. And if the female is not used to being treated like a lady he shouldn't be afraid to inform her that this is how a rare, exotic, and delicate treasure should be prized and treated. Then proceed with said "courtly" mannerisms.
