Despicable me Movie Description:
A man who delights in all things wicked, supervillain Gru (Chris Renaud) hatches a plan to steal the moon. Surrounded by an army of little yellow minions and his impenetrable arsenal of weapons and war machines, Gru makes ready to vanquish all who stand in his way. But nothing in his calculations and groundwork has prepared him for his greatest challenge: three adorable orphan girls (Janet Healy, Nina Rappaport-Rowan, Robert Taylor) who want to make him their dad.
Despicable Me is a 2010 American animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures. The first feature film from Illumination Entertainment, it was directed by Chris Renaud and Pierre Coffin (in their feature directorial debuts) and produced by Chris Meledandri, Janet Healy and John Cohen, from a screenplay by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, which was in turn based on an original story by Sergio Pablos. Despicable Me stars the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Miranda Cosgrove, Kristen Wiig, Will Arnett, and Julie Andrews. The film follows Gru, a longtime supervillain who adopts three orphan girls to use as pawns in a villainous scheme but accidentally develops an emotional attachment to them.
Development of Despicable Me began when Pablos pitched the idea about a main character having villainous attributes and brought the concept to Meledandri following Illumination's foundation in 2007, with Paul and Daurio reworking the script. The film was officially announced in 2008, with much of its creative team attached, while animation was provided by Paris-based studio Mac Guff. Pharrell Williams and Heitor Pereira composed the film's score, with original songs written and performed by Williams.
Despicable Me debuted at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival on June 9, 2010, and was theatrically released in the United States on July 9. The film received positive reviews from critics and earned $543.6 million worldwide, becoming the ninth-highest-grossing film of 2010. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTA Awards and Annie Awards and is also the winner for Favorite Animated Movie at the 2011 Kids' Choice Awards. The success of Despicable Me launched a multi-billion dollar multimedia franchise, which comprises Despicable Me 2 (2013), Minions (2015), Despicable Me 3 (2017), Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022), and the upcoming Despicable Me 4 (2024).

When a little kid says that they love you (31:35), it really just breaks your heart wide open. Because kids are so innocent and don't lie, it's just so honest and pure. It reminds me of when my 60+ year old uncle watched my (then 4 year old) daughter while her dad and I were on vacation for a week. He said that they had a blast, and that one night, when he was putting her to bed, she gave him a big hug and said that she loved him. This man was a green beret in the army, but he said that he just sat and cried over that. That was 9 years ago, and they're still super duper close. Kids, man. They're an incredible gift.

This hit during the big 3D craze, which is why the end credits stuff is all playing around with that aspect of it. The roller coaster portion was absolutely insane in theater. The series is really solid for the most part, with each sequel bringing something new to the formula rather than resting on what worked and repeating. Keep watching, you'll definitely appreciate them.

The movie was originally in 3D and the end credits scene was the minions trying to get out of the screen and into the audience or something like that. (It doesn't make much sense in 2D.)

Mel, the reason why some parents have their kids on leashes is because some kids will just run off into danger in no time. You can have your kid beside you and as soon as you turn your head for a second, they'll be gone.

My 3yo son was just diagnosed as autistic and I'm thinking of getting one of those backpack leashes. If there are no physical boundaries he will just run, including into roadways. Better safe and stupid-looking than sorry and minus a kid.

The main problem with this franchise is that minions are promoted _so hard_ and plastered everywhere you look, and you hear the same lines over and over again, it's very easy to get sick of them. When taken in the proper context they're actually not bad at all

Fun fact, before the release of the Minions movie, they always have random Minions for the Illumination intro. But now we have the trio (Bob, Stuart and Kevin) doing the intro. Despicable Me is definitely one of the best animated movies I've ever seen and this is where I know Steve Carrel. I've always know him as the voice of Gru just like Owen Wilson as McQueen.

Fun Fact: Illumination made a theatrical short called Mooned that takes place right after the first movie, focusing on Vector trying to get back to Earth. They even bring back that Minion that floated away. Also, about the credits, the Minions reaching out was meant to revolve around 3D effects that were super popular at the time.

Such a great film. The first two Despicable Me was a breath of fresh air, absolutely hilarious, fun and fresh, and the film that shot Illumination to the animated studios upper rank. Sure, most of their films after would be mediocre at best, but their first try, is an absolute gem.

Every minion has their own name and no name tags, and yet Gru knows every single one by heart! You must be truly determined to make yourself learn the names of around 2 or 300 yellow creatures who only have three types of appearances: one-eyed and stout, two-eyed and stout (or some are chubby), and two-eyed and tall (only by a few inches at least).

That's not a scam, that's literally legal practice now. Every company has the right to sell customer information, as long as betterhelp isn't disclosing actual medical records then that's not a scam. A scam would be them taking your money and not providing the services you paid for. What they're doing is morally wrong but legally fine. My mom had to put a leash on me when I was a child because, if you looked away, I'd be gone. I thought it was fun. I would run to one end then immediately the other or try to wrap it around people's legs. I was a menace. Too much energy but otherwise, quite well behaved.

Legit good movie, and Pharrell Williams made quite a few bangers for this franchise. I remember being excited when this one turned out so well because I felt like there weren't a lot of studios producing animated features on the regular. It was mostly DreamWorks and PIXAR (Blue Sky was hanging in there kinda and Disney Animation had a bad batting average). Regrettably, Illumination hasn't really lived up to their first movie as of yet.

28:10 When the werewolf turns back into a naked human, then covers his privates with both hands and scoots off, I think it is a callback to the old 'Rampage' arcade game. It featured three monsters - a gorilla, a lizard and a giant werewolf - destroying buildings and, sometimes, each other. Whenever a monster 'died,' they shrunk back to their naked human forms and covered their naughty bits as they stepped off the screen. The human's pose and escape after the moon is shrunk looks almost exactly like that.

bro to keep it e bean.. i was depressed because i was going through it financially and my job got me betterhelp and tbh it just made me realize that sharing my experience really will do nothing.. i mean i can complain all day but a million dollars is not gonna fall from the sky and that i have to want better for myself.. no one is coming to save me whether i go through one thing or three things so i should put myself in the position to want to be happy.
