I purchased this engine in a retirement sale from a reputable local machine shop and I was scammed. It was sold to me as a a fresh 355 short block, with 4 bolt mains, just bolt on your heads and intake and go!
Unfortunately the engine needed to be complete disassembled, as the bearing clearances were too tight, and it did not have 4 bolt mains. It has been completely gone through with the GOLD Standard, all new parts Including Summit Racing 1105 Camshaft, ProMaxx heads, Weiand intake, roller rip rocker arms, and forged pistons.
This engine will be dyno tested June 8th and is available for sale. It will make a great engine in anything from a Camaro, Full size Silverado, or Impala.
It has that muscle car sound with the 224/234 duration camshaft but, lots of vacuum for power brakes and accessories.

the bolts for a 283 main cap and 327 - 302 are shorter due to the small journal there are some GM main bolts on Ebay however they are pricey I used ARP stud kit part # 134-5501 I know this guy wants it origenal so e-bay will gladly bend him over. hope this helps nice 350 witch promax heads.

Mr. Gold, you and Nick's Garage, don't seem to have flat tappet lifter problems. Is, the flat tappet lifter trouble, gone away? Have the retail outlets, sold all the junk lifters? For a while, nobody could break in, a flat tappet cam, without failure.

My engine builder friends have stuck with Isky and Howard's cams and they haven't had any issues with flat tappets. Some of the the cheaper cams have questionable machining and they have given many engine builders issues. I like to run Howard's "cam saver" lifters or gm performance lifters in circle track engines with years of success

Thread the bolt up a 1/2” from where it’s at now then thread a nut onto it. Cut a half inch off total length of bottom of bolt. Round the bottom of the bolts edge you cut off, then unthread the nut it’ll straighten any thread that might be messed up.

@@goldsgarage8236 I havent had any trouble either. I use a good deal of moly assembly lube on the cam and lifters. And I make sure the lifters are spinning freely in their bores. I use Driven break in oil and Ac/Delco lifters that cost about $180 a set but they seem to be of good quality. I bit the bullet and bought a set of 1.3 ratio rocker arms to use just for break in & I also try to make sure the engine is ready to run. If you have to start and stop for leaks and other issues thats a recipe for failure. I have only ever rebuilt SBC's.

I built a very similar 385 with Promaxx 200cc heads and that Summit cam basically copying a build from Hotrod Magazine. You had better luck with that cam than I did, though, because my cam broke in two! I have since torn down the engine and rebuilt it with a retrofit hydraulic roller cam

@mikegillam1000
@mikegillam1000 Күн бұрын
Not really. I had a reputable machine shop check the block and install cam bearings as part of the block prep. A couple of the lifters were completely destroyed and a couple of the lobes were damaged. It’s just a guess, but I’m wondering if the lifter dug into a lobe enough to jam up the cam and cause it to break

Please tell me that the 302 is going to get a set of ARP main studs…? Standard bolts do not provide enough clamping force to prevent ‘cap walk’ especially on that little engine that will want to rpm to 6500-7000 with the right cam. 👍🇦🇺

Hey AG, Tim here, as i commenrlted b4, its a nice soundin engine, for SURE!!.....my query is why do like the HEI dist so much???...my shop stays away from them, and uses MSD ready to run, or the Pro Billet, that needs the box....we like how quick and easy it is to change the curve/total, and has the smaller cap, for firewall clearence.....just curious....TY sir!!.....OH, had a Vette , the HEI was rubbin on the firewall, cud barely get the cap off...all in a bind......we changed it to the MSD ready to run, and it ran GREAT, and no clearence issues......again, i'm just curious.....thnx again!!

All good points Tim. I like them because they are inexpensive, simple to install, they don't need a coil or box and they work well on the dyno. Right now, I don't know where this engine is going. If a potential buyer wants something different i would change it out for them. AG

I think I found a flaw in my cam program. It suggested a 240* .500 lift 1.6 rockers on the intake 110 LSA on 106 ICL. I am not a fan of single pattern cams.my thought is my cam program doesn't correct enough for stroke. I have tweaked it some in the past but this cam just doesn't seem right. Then again, maybe it is.
