Let me start by saying I liked every indian I demoed and hated every yamaha, and im a sports rider first and foremost.. so thats where my bias with indian lays, theyre decently put together and the engines are definitely sweet. Especially the scout. But I seriously doubt that. No ones going to want to switch from a harely in a couple years time. Its not even American, first of all so anyone who buys a harely for that reason won't be switching anytime soon. (They all know its Canadian too.) Also, the scout is too much of a chicks bike for the average harely rider (speed isn't a factor in this) and the whole indian line is like a knock off harely with extra cream colored leather tassels and just frills and lameness everywhere. And to top this all off the big local used bike dealer round these parts is also an indian dealer, and I have a really good gage of whats going in and out of the place. At first they did get a lot of used harelys from trade ins after demo events and such a couple summers ago. But I've watched their used indian line up grow bigger and bigger, and their used harely line up shrink to where all that's ever left over is kind of undesirable and they have more used indians than harelys in just a couple years time, like by 2 or 3 fold at this point too.. people didn't like the Indians because even though the motors are better in a technical fashion. Theyre just so milquetoast

Polaris is the cheap plastic knock off version so it makes sense. They don't even sell Indians at most our Polaris dealerships in Canada, and their snowmobiles are a constant joke along with their side by sides. I'm not saying the Indian isn't fast, but that's about it.

@@solmarg3796 My thoughts exactly. I looked at the Indian scout at the dealership, and the plastic fenders and stuff turned me off, along with the silly "drive by wire" throttle setup. Yes, newer Harleys have that too, but it's set up differently and feels solid, doesn't feel like a toy throttle. Also the fit and finish of a Harley is unmatched. This guy is right about the engine in the scout though, it's really nice and runs great. But so are the engines in a Honda or Yamaha. Oh well, I've been riding the same old 1200 Sportster for 21 years now, bought it new in 2000. Great bike, simple, reliable, looks awesome and I still love it.

Stay safe, I'm on a 55hp bike and I know that there were many times when the "low power" saved me from an accident. Higher power bikes give you less margin of error. I had ninja 250 before this, learned on it while I was at college for about year, then took an eight year hiatus before I got back into riding with my Guzzi V7. I'm used to it now, but it still RIPS in second gear (60 ft lbs of torque) and can get you in trouble if you're heavy handed with the throttle.

I will let my friend an engineer from there engine development department that went on an on about this engine know about your review. They actually had this on the shelf for several years and just pulled the trigger on it. It is not just a beast but it is beautiful. And internally has some very interesting workings for robust and long wearing parts. He said they are heritage bike that you hand down to your kids. This engine was 3 years in development and 2 years in refining. That exhaust system had went through something like sixteen design changes. taking into effect engine harmonics road vibration thermal expansion from hot gases and turbulent flow control like a jet combustion chamber, all while balancing torque curves. The transmission that's connected to that engine all kinds of heated design discussions went on between the engineers over that deal. This bike was started from the engine and was designed all the way to the tires. they called that bike the "Sweet spot" they were trying to hit all the things that would make advanced/ beginners, cruisers, crotch rocket, all enjoy the ride this while making it a very dependable and fuel economical. people don't get lost in the not's, it's not the fastest, it's not the torquest, it's not the most fuel economical, it is not the most long-lasting motorcycle, it's also not the cheapest motorcycle, it's not the most expensive motorcycle. But is it fun to ride oh you bet'ch 😄. It is The Sweet spot.

Exactly what I said in the last video.. Puttering around town at 35 mph doesn't give you anywhere near the full scope of the Scout line. Get out of town on a quiet road and crack that thing open past 5 or 6k rpms and you'll realize how monumental this engine is. (Its like the VTEC kicking in from fast and furious for you youngins out there). As for the sound, throw a combat shorty or a set of rineharts and you can wake the dead with the best of the harley bois out there. I'm glad to see you come over to the dark side, Spike.

You want a seismic shift in the American Cruiser market? Put proper adjustable inverted front forks with dual disks up front, a sport tuned monoshock in the rear, and bore out that motor to 1250-1300 cc and tune it to 150-175hp and 120 tq. Then you would have a RocketIII/Vmax competitor.

I rode the FTR1200 at the 2019 Sturgis MC Rally. If you think the Scout engine has cojones, the FTR is in another league. Entering the on ramp to the I-90 East returning to Sturgis on a test ride, I gunned it till it read 103 in 3rd gear before I backed off looking for cops. I have ridden the Scout on numerous occasions and you're correct, the engine is the message. I didn't care for the forward foot controls, the seat, but most importantly, the rear shocks. They look like something from a 1970's street bike. They might have 3 inches of travel so the ride is harsh. A standard style Scout would be a terrific ride.
