My wife's on an Indian Scout. I asked the salesman why it didn't have a gas gauge to which he replied "Indian is trying to keep the bike nostalgic." I was met with a blank stare when I asked "then why does it have a USB port and LED lights?"

As I have always said, Harley is 119 years of tradition, unhampered by progress.

I always loved the way the scout looked, but this review teaching me about how it worked was the biggest driver behind me wanting a scout more than anything and ultimately buying one. Its been a super enjoyable ride

I think a big factor for the increased horsepower of an oversquare engine, (or, for that matter, using more cylinders) was missed. The bigger the bore, the more area you have for valves. The more area you have for valves, the more air you can take in. The more air you can take in, the more fuel you can burn. The more fuel you can burn, the more power you can get out of your engine.

Watching this again for the umpteenth time and I'm still blown away. Concept, scripting, filmography... all mesmerisingly good. This kind of execution doesn't happen without serious effort, expertise and time expenditure. Thanks for putting it up for the whole world to enjoy.

The fact that you changed the FPS between “slow” and “fast” for the difference between engines then and engines now, really shows how much attention to detail and creativity you have...you really deserve a tv deal Ryan

I have to second all the other comments here, that this channel is in a class of its own. I watch a lot of stuff on this platform. A lot of really high quality stuff. And this channel, for many reasons, always feels like the best content I've ever seen. The commentary, humor, cinematography, editing, subject matter, etc are always incredible. I appreciate all the work that goes into this. And as many have said, it's hard to believe that I can watch this for free.

My first bike was a Yamaha 80. Later on in life although I owned a car I wanted a bike. I got a very used Honda Hawk 400. I paid $500 and it ran perfectly after test driving some garbage that people were trying to get rid of. Sold it for what I paid for it. All my friends went out and started to purchase Harleys. One got a new 883 Sportster the rest went bigger. Don't know the names but I remember the engine size was 1340 CCs. I decided to get another bike. This time to the Honda dealer for a new 750 in black. I only paid $2500 for this bike and it was brand new. As a matter of fact when I went to get it they did not even have one on the showroom floor I asked the salesman show it to me he brought me into the repair side and showed me that was actually in a box I believe it was on top of three other boxes. Left them a deposit came back when it was assembled. This bike was so much better then my friends bikes in every way. They could not believe what I paid until I showed up with the receipt. This was in the early 80s so don't go looking for this price now days. I see what 750 Jap bikes sell for. This bike was so good that my first NEW car was a Honda Civic. That was back in 1987. Honda when it was made in Japan. The day we swapped bikes just to see. I drove the sporster on the highway when a car cut right in front of me. Sacred me to death because what would be a very light pull on my front break did not work that way on the Harley. I had no idea that it needed to be pulled to engage. Not for me ever.

You are just on another level. You have the ability to combine technical concepts with lightness, to bring in each video your humour and your original way of presenting your ideas, making us know the history of motorcycling and the present of this world. All seasoned with a wonderful mise-en-scene with Hollywodiane shooting and editing. It is seriously strange to think that all this is free.

This film is sonicly, visually, informatively satisfying. Says a lot about passion when TV corps cant throw enough money to make something better than this.

Having worked in front of a camera, making my mouth seem to move at regular speed, when filming at both slowmotion and superlapse, I can not adequately stress how difficult it is to make it look like it's normal speed. Well done! (also, the penis jokes were a head above the others)

Yesterday was my fourth day riding, and my second day riding street bikes and I already find myself scraping my foot pegs and knocking my head against that narrow lean angle. The scout bobber is a GORGEOUS bike and super fun in a straight line but even as a total newbie I've already pushed it to its limit in cornering just on my commute.

Just bought a 2018 Scout Bobber. Love the bike so far. Plenty of power, for me at least, and the accessories are not a limited as I first thought. You just have to look a little hardened to find them. The only diwn side is the the engine oil is 15w60 which is harder to find locally.

Love the video, especially the witty way you deliver the how & why, and then about American bikers at the end, I both nod in approval and then laugh at the statement. I understand it well, being a fan of old car's, trucks and bikes styling and for the most part simplicity, but love modern reliability, like electronic ignitions, efi, and modern engine power outputs. Looks like I'll have to check out some of your other videos!

I started riding almost 4 years ago and you guys made me feel passionate and comfortable to start on 2 wheels. These documentary styled films are my favorite. Just wanted to say thank you to Ryan and everyone in FortNine

Primary reason for over square is to avoid excessive piston speed. The piston doesn’t outrun the combustion. It outruns the oilly good lubrication. It also gets knock on effects like more space for valves and less force on the crank from moving the piston so fast. That comes at the expensive of low speed breathability, smoothness and secondary forces but most of all a combustion chamber which we want to be round. The more surface touching the combustion those more area to lose heat through, the more difficult to get good mixing etc.

Yeah, the production quality is insane in your videos, but for me my favorite aspect of your channel is the physics behind motorcycles that you explain incredibly well. It's been a while since my engineering school days, and it's great to see the many concepts I learned applied to something as awesome as motorcycles.
