Leaving butter out used to be more common. I leave mine in the freezer. I get a stick and leave it in a butter tray on my counter. Salted butter can sit out for 2+ weeks. Depending on the temperature it can sit out for months if stored in a cool dry place lice a root cellar.

Why on Earth would you freeze your butter just leave it in the fridge. Butter is supposed to be covered at room temp cause light will turn butter rancid that's why butter dishes are made of a colored dark glass or ceramic so that it keeps the light out

usda does not recommend you leave butter out for more than 48 hours because it can turn rancid. back in like the 1970s when butter contained more salt it was okay because salt can be used as a preservative in high enough concentrations modern salted butter doesn't have enough salt in it for that.

Good on you for coming back to this product. Lots of folks in our age range don't know you can keep butter out, covered, for a decent amount of time on the counter. It wasn't until well after I switched away from margarine permanently that I learned about using a covered butter dish at room temperature. It's kind of counter intuitive food safety wise. But, there's nothing worse than needing a triple grilled cheese at 3am and only having a rock hard brick of butter from the fridge to work with. 😆👍

I notice on the top/other side which do go near the butter, of the butter knife (with holes), has what it looks like teeth, so when the butter just come out of the fridge you should use this side first to break the surface of the butter to help the butter go though the hole much easier. So please @TylerTube try this method also, as leaving butter on the counter top for 24 hours before you use it can be risky like you said 'butter is dairy, dairy goes into the fridge', and would you leave buttter out on the counter top 24 hours when the weather is hot or very hot? No as it will turn into liquid and make bacteria will grow on it. So when the company said you can used this knife straight from the fridge means you can do this by using both side of the knife, the teeth like first and then holes. Plus leaving butter or any dairy products on the counter top for 24 hours ro softern up is VERY VERY RISKY as flies can land on it and you do not know where they been and you then spread it on the toast or bread (raw toast) and then you eat it.

I love that Tyler owns up when he is wrong about something and takes the time to redo a video.

In colder areas you pretty much can’t butter raw bread like up north where I live. It just rips and falls apart even if you leave your butter out it doesn’t get soft.

I know many others have probably said it, but you don't just let the butter 'sit out on the counter'. There's a flat dish with a domed lid that covers the butter. I dunno if there's a fancy name for it but we've always called it a 'butter dish'.

You can tell Tyler never made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in his life on plain bread. I ALWAYS tear the bread when I use a regular knife

I can see what people are saying about leaving it out on the bench but i totally agree with Tyler here, i live in Australia and even leaving butter out in winter can leave you with nothing but an oily yellow puddle so any product like butter or margarine goes in the fridge. Lol

As someone who also didn't know that butter was left out on the counter until relatively recently in my life, I have a feeling this is because our families didn't buy "butter." They bought margarine, which is butter-like, but not the same thing. I don't know if butter comes in "tubs" but I know margarine does.

Yes, I buy spreadable butter all the time . It stays in the fridge and it is still spreadable.

Growing up in Iowa my mom would always have a softened stick of butter sitting on the countertop in a "butter dish". I remember this because if I would forget to put the top on our cat would jump up and eat it.

Yeah, we keep our butter in the cupboard right beside our toaster, full 1 pound brick, we usually use up that pound of hutter in about 4-5 days, but I grew up never having the butter in the fridge, was always in the cupboard, and the unused stuff In the freezer.
