Nah, that statement still stands. Killing that many humans and turning many other humans into demons should have had a much bigger punishment than not being able to walk in the sun. Muzan knows that, and so do we.

All of his punishment has been given to the ubuyashiki family.

He knows from spying on everyone that he's gotten much much stronger since killing Hantengu too. He's got PTSD from Yoriichi and the earrings, but I'm pretty sure he knows that out of any of the demon slayers, Tanjiro is the one he needs to worry about.

Also I'd argue that the "simplicity" of the plot and characters (not that they don't have depth, but much of it is quite simple) allows ufotable to go all in with the music and amination like they do. There's not really many plot twists or "shocking reveals", so the music, art direction, and animation need to be elevated to carry the show. I don't mean it like it's a bad thing - just an observation I had.

Ufotable goes all in regardless of whether a plot is simple or not and if the series has a lot of action and the series is successful and the company wants to keep their reputation for consistent quality, then they will have to go all in anyways. Demon slayer is basically a masterclass of storytelling within a structure. The author got a controlled plan of how events unfold and end from the very beginning and never becomes overly ambitious or takes on more than she can chew. It has a progressive linear path and ends before overstaying its welcome. A beginning, middle and end. The goal is set. Kill muzan and end the demons. You will never see demon slayer give a lore dump shocking twist that muzan was a small fry in a bigger and larger world brimming with possibilities where the risk of "jumping the shark" becomes a thing and we have to drag the story into a 500+ chapter journey. ... and the truth is, not having too many moving parts and be very digestible is a very smart style of writing that is underappreciated. If you leave things too loose and give too much freedom, you will get something like one piece or HxH. They will be rewarded for it but those are just the exceptions. The vast majority of artists that go that route will not only fail but consequentially destroy themselves. Whereas demon slayer is a great baseline for telling a solid story with a structure and sticking to it.

@@han-ek8pm yeah, and not just that. it also plays with and revamps japanese folklore, especially yōkai, in such cool, original and interesting ways for newer audiences. adding even western influences, like Kimetsu is basically a story about vampires. Gotōge's character designs and visual effects in the manga are one of the best i've seen in a long while in shōnen. and is so emotionally moving and relatable that hardly any modern manga/anime series can compete on that level. it takes a very empathetic author to create such an emotional work, and that's not "simple", that's extremely complex and hard to find. like, prob the only other recent work that have affected me that much on an emotional level is Vinland Saga (and hardly anyone would call that series "simple"). i personally don't feel the story or the series overall is perfect, but i love it so much. you can make "complex" works and end up saying basically nothing, being "simple" doesn't mean it can't be amazing.

The use of 3D elements in these animations are so dope!.. same way happened to Gyomei's Spikey thingy after it wrecks Muzan.. pauses for a sec on screen before the camera zooms behind it.. Cool stuff ufotable.
