The merStede scene is amazing. Ed imagines mythical creatures during times of trauma and he sees a big white light (Stede is shown with light motifs of love and hope throughout the show) and then a goldfish mermaid comes to save him! Doesnt drag him out of the water, but stays floating next to him, shining bright. And ed decides for himself to save himself

I just want to clarify that while Ed loving Stede is a catalyst for his breakdown, it is not the reason. He was getting better at the end of last season, choosing to be Ed. He didn't take up the mantle of Kraken/Blackbeard until Izzy threatened him. Threatened his safety, and since Izzy had just sold them out to the English, it wasn't an empty threat. Also, Ed was showing su*cidal tendencies as early as 1x4. "Oh death, that's something I haven't tried yet." The breakdown was probably going to happen, but was delayed by meeting Stede, and being happy for the first time Izzy pushing him to take up the BB mantle pushed him into it and further, because since Stede left without a note, he now thinks his thoughts of being unlovable are true. And that pushes him to push the crew into hurting him.

Oh man, those tears are so valid. I tear up every time the Kate Bush song kicks in. No joke, I’ve watched this episode more times than I can count and it’s waterworks central.

Your tears are so sweet and relatable. The fandom waited 18 long months for Ed and Stede's reunion and imagined every possible way it could happen, but no one called this. It was so unbelievably beautiful and the emotion of it is so earned. I can't wait to see what you think of the rest of the season 💜 And don't worry-we're still fighting and holding out hope for s3. We're in the gravy basket for sure but this show is too special and I really think someone is going to want to finish this incredible story

@@hmgarth583 It jumped out at me. Others have mentioned (spoiler) the shout-out to director Werner Herzog. I wonder if I am missing others. Also, since Taika Waititi mentioned it in some interviews, I am wondering if Blackadder Goes Forth (seriously, a must-see comedy) has a shout-out, too. They both have a structural similarity, in that they are both comedies with a very solid emotional grounding; one being romance, the other tragedy.

This episode is such a masterpiece. I was sobbing all the way through that last scene and it still makes me so emotional!

The ending of 2.3 messes me up in the best way every time, and I've lost track of how many times I've watched it! Last episode Auntie invented a filing system ahead of its time (my headcanon is that it's the Library of Congress classification system), this episode she invents DNA testing and forensics. Iconic. It really matters that (1) Izzy isn't a reliable narrator and that (2) the show initially obscures that. Maybe Izzy thought lying to Stede and saying the crew deserted Ed on a beach would keep the crew from being executed for mutiny, but it had the potential to turn a near-death into an actual one, *and* would have deprived Stede of the chance to tend to Ed's body and say goodbye. As a hospice volunteer who tries to support caregivers in being with their dying loved ones, I think this is maybe the worst thing Izzy does, and since I haven't forgotten him siccing the English navy on the Revenge and threatening the life of everyone on board, that's saying a lot. I'm still agitating for s3-- Taika and Rhys acted their faces off this season, and I'm not ready to be done.

I love how much of a petty bish stede is to Izzy. He's so lovely and patient with everyone else but has never had time for Izzy 😂 Zeng is my pirate queen I love her

Aw, Chachi you made me cry when you started crying.😢 I absolutely sobbed at the mermaid bit in that episode as well! I know a few of Kate Bush's songs from the 70's and 80's but never heard that one before it was so perfect for that scene! Looking forward to seeing your next video! ❤
