The $700 wheels aren't *really* intended as a product to be purchased. Don't get me wrong - they sell them and you CAN purchase them, but the wheels exist to psychologically manipulate buyers of a Mac Pro. The default configuration includes the wheels. You can then choose to remove them and "save" $700, so you become convinced that you've gotten a spectacular deal. It's a tactic as old as retail itself.

"they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful"..... UK plug's/socket's are simply the best: Safer with strong chunky prongs that are shielded where they'd become live, ground on top because gravity, on/off switch to isolate supply and arcing/sparking, fused which is never a bad thing although not required in the US. And they supply higher wattage at the socket. The badly placed socket shown was a poor example to make a point, I'm sure the same could happen anywhere. We do suffer with more bulk, true, and sadly many just stick a UK plug onto their power adapters and call it a day or do it for aesthetic like Apple rather than designing it for the market. But if you want a safe, robust, capable plug/socket to deal with deadly electricity then nothing beats it.

I have a 16” 2021 MacBook Pro and needed a dvd player for some old media I have, and while reading/playing back a dvd works perfectly fine, I got a very similar error when trying to burn a disc. The stupid thing is that on Apple’s website it explicitly says (at the time of writing this) it is compatible with any Mac made since 2008 as long as you have a USB-C to USB-A adapter, including for burning discs, and mentions nothing about compatibility problems on modern Macs. "they are huge, they're ugly, and they're awful" - The UK plugs are the only ones I know of that include a fuse INSIDE the plug that protects everything you plug on the device/power-strip level. Without those you would need to rely on circuit breakers to detect shorts which rarely happens before something actually catches fire. I'm not from UK, but their plugs ARE better. Imagine a power strip can handle at max 2kW before catching fire. The embedded fuse would prevent it from burning, but a 15A circuit breaker, which is 3.4kW would not.

The fuse is needed because UK wiring system: a single ring of copper is used to connect all outlets in the house, so it allows very high current in faults which is very dangerous so the appliances must protect the system. In every other country they use radial circuits which have their own protection in the electric panel itself, so the fuses in the appliances are not required.

Yes, our sockets tend to wear out after a while because the contractors use the cheap ones and then nobody ever replaces them after they've served their non-respectable life and resort to duck taping plugs into sockets instead of hiring an electrician or learning how to safely do it. On the upside foreign users don't have the folding prongs which I've had where out after a while and a couple almost to go up and smoke and start losing connection. Which at that point I trade the duck head adapter that I'm not using with my mom then proceed to cut it open and splice in an actual cord.

I worked at an Apple Store for 8 years until recently and the lightning to usb 3.0 adapter is still in wide use at stores because it supports wired data transfer between lightning iPhones and allows power in for charging during the process. It also allows the phone to work over a wired network provided you use a usb-a to Ethernet adapter and plug into power. I even used it with the old Apple wired keyboards which used to allow you to unlock and interact with an iPhone if the touch screen stopped responding but since iOS started locking out the usb connections if the passcode hasn’t been entered within a certain timeframe that hasn’t really been available.

DVD's seem to last longer, but some of the earlier burns I did are starting to show the same issue. If you want real long term then either invest in tape or get into the habit of migrating the data ever few years to newer drives. At the very least you'll have something on a format still commonly supported if you do it this way. Do the cloud thing too, encrypt it for security of course. Multiple copies is the key here! Something I really appreciate about Apple is that they sell some of this old stuff still. As someone who collects iPods from time to time being able to just go out and buy a first party genuine Apple 30-pin cable is wonderful. Also while EarPods don’t sound as good as some other earbuds at their price point I will argue that they are quite practical. They don’t insert into your ear canal so if you are a person who has difficulty with in-ear buds you’re good. This also means you can easily put them in and take them out of your ears if you are in an environment that requires you to do so often. They don’t bleed sound in any way close to the version of the Apple earbuds they replaced. They also still sound pretty good for what they are. For phone calls, podcasts, audiobooks, and non-critical listening they sound pretty good. Especially for phone calls that microphone is absolutely superior to any wireless alternative.

I still use the camera adapter to connect MIDI from my electric piano to my iPad. I've owned it since they first introduced them and it's still going strong.

@22:30 Shots fired at our amazing British plugs. The British plug design is safe, tough and well engineered. US plugs are meekly pathetic as are your substandard outlets.

I used a super drive yesterday. It's just an external burner. Don't need it often but it is nice. Just make sure you have the ODD driver installed from the boot camp drivers

So, I’m one of the few people that the 35 watt dual USB-C charger (with the removable prongs) is made for. From years of buying Macs, I have plenty of those 3 prong Apple extension cables (including for other countries) which also provides proper ground. I like the cleaner look of using the Apple extension cables, which are also more stable inside 3 pin sockets, and really really stable inside international sockets using the native cables. I also prefer this over using a generic extension cable. I did look at other non-Apple brand chargers, but nearly all took up to much space on the wall and/or power strip.

Speaks volumes about the quality of Apples design that a product from 2008 still looks like it’s from the future.

“There’s no sunlight in Apple stores” Quinn almost every modern Apple store has floor to ceiling windows that let sunlight and UV rays pour in 😂 That’s why the plastic seal was yellow and why products in the front yellow before the ones lined up behind do

I don't think they are keeping that thing on the sales floor. I bet they have that in the way way way back. hahahaha

I still use my ancient old super drive (that I salvaged from my died 2010 MBP). It's in a 3rd-party enclosure now and connected to my PC (I put Apple on my personal vendor blacklist) but still works like a charm (connected with a single USB-A).

The reason they sell the weird international adapter is orientation of the plug & space it takes up. I have a 100w one powering a docking station for my mbp & if I had the version you showed as superior it would most likely take up 3 slots on my power strip instead of 1 which is crucial real estate to power my work station.
