Some fair and true comments there. If old mate disrespects workshop tools by throwing them across a workshop floor, would he disrespect working on a customers car also? Not a good look there tiger. Surprised you actually showed this.

It is the EPA and the DOT that force car companies to try anything to lower their fleet average fuel economy while still delivering the power needed for American roads and drivers. Do you think that Chrysler wants to get rid of the Hemi?
@jamesmedina2062
@jamesmedina2062 9 ай бұрын
Really?? Force them? You think that will shut down the manufacturer if they don't follow EPA and DOT designs?? Are you sure of that? How about if the reality was that manufacturers save themselves money by increasing MPG ratings and make more money by designing your shit to break? Trust me. Most companies want your shit to break down sooner and later. Both. Every MPG below 25mpg costs companies money. Its money kiddo 🤑🤑🤑Lots of it.

Thanks for your input. I refused to listen to my dealership telling me to wait until 7500 miles to do first oil change. Instead I changed at 1500 and then 5k for a while and now around 3500-4000 intervals on small turbo Honda. No oil burning. No gasket losses. Just blackie oil at changes due to DI. Seems like not a problem air flow at intake valves with 120k miles. Also changed crappy Honda gear oil since like water and caused grinds. Seems dealer licks their chops hoping for many failures these days. Pathetic attitude. Hoping to run to many miles. Turbo will send oil through seals to intake tubing so I run 5w30 weights versus recommended 0w20.

So here is some food for thought. I'm a past owner of a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with the first year of the MDS system on the 5.7. Truck had over 105,000 on it when frame rot claimed it. The MDS system gave me no problems once so ever and I routinely got 18 mpg on that truck. The current truck I'm driving is a 2015 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi also with MDS and I get almost 20 mpg routinely with that truck. Truck has almost 105,000 on it now and I have not had a problem with the MDS on it either. Things to consider: I ALWAYS changed the oil at 5,000 miles on both trucks. This oil life monitor system that all the manufactures are going with now is absolute BS IMO. Your oil not only provides lubrication to your engine, but it also is a key component that wicks heat out of engine components. Keep it full and keep it fresh. In my opinion with the Hemi's anyways. Now maybe next week mine will drop a lifter or something crazy but those are my thoughts for now.

Bought my 17 silverado 5.3 with 52000KMs. I'm a firm believer in changing the oil when it's worn out. 1st oil change (truck new to me) I did it at 30% oil life remaining. Between 50% and 30% it spewed over a liter of oil presumably out the tailpipe. 2nd oil change I did at 50% oil life because I could feel a slight thud/clunk ever so slightly when it switched to 4 cylinder useless mode. So back to my old ways 5000km interval religiously. Hasn't lost a drop of oil since and the slight thud returns once the oil is worn out at almost exactly 5000kms. My 14 elantra wears the oil out around 4000kms. Lol they're all junk. Been maintaining my own cars for over 20 years, licensed tech for 2 years and i say vehicles suck now a days... 🍻🇨🇦

@anthonynastasi4098 I have an 05 Silverado k1500 5.3 engine. It gets fairly regular maintenance, actually I let the computer tell me when to service. It's got 403,000+ miles on it. Burns no oil, just put 3rd set of plugs in it, 2nd set of wires. Still runs like a scalded dog. Only engine problem was tear main seal, I replaced it at 325,000 . Even has original starter. I was taught to take care of a vehicle, not baby or abuse. At 69, I've had my share of vehicles, this is the best one so far. My 2016 Terrain now has 150,000. Let's see how it goes...

I do change my oil every 3000 miles on my cars and never burn oil. My 2018 2.0l Ecoboost very tough on oil after 3000 miles a lot of carbon and fuel smell in the oil. $40.00 oil change is cheaper than an engine for my pov. Long range to hit 200k miles maybe will cost you $1000 more vs an engine is $5000 +. The math it easy but people unfortunately procrastinate. Good video

If i have to change my oil every 3000 miles because of the POS these manufacturers sell, i don't want that engine. My old VW Turbo Diesel was running fine at 698, 714 KM with 8000KM oil change intervals (VW recommended)----then it got totaled by a POS running a Red Light. I probably could have gone a Million because it used very little oil in that interval. By the time 8K rolled around the oil was a smidgeon below the Full. In fact, there was no need to bother adding, except that i am kind of anal about having the oil on the Full Mark. LOL You are recommending 3000 miles and expensive synthetic oil? Not only that 220 KM a day, 5 days a week, i would be doing a lot of oil changing with one of those pieces of junk. No thanks.

I think it's a crappy design to begin with and no matter how many times you change your oil you're going to have lifter failure as the vehicles mileage creeps to 100k. The big oil consumption issue with the 5.3 is in the poor design pcv system. It happens in the drivers side valve cover in the oil passages. There's a revised valve cover that Dorman or others make that resolves that problem. This issue is why oil leaks and smoke exits the exhaust. I think the AFM was a poor design period but we all have our opinions.
