I WATCHED ALMOST EVERY KPOP SURVIVAL SHOW OUT THERE! Because I've always wondered if Kpop survival shows are successful for the idols that debut out of those survival shows? So what's the best way to measure anything a KZfaq? Yup, a tier list! From the Produce 101 series and Girls Planet 999 to self-made survival shows like SIXTEEN and I-LAND.

I LOVE ILAND so much, for me it's so entertaining but it was traumatizing because I loved almost all the trainees so i really wanted them all to succeed. Also the boys had to work on everything themselves that some trainees like Ni-Ki was pressured to teach his competitors and when he wanted to focus on himself since he gets a low rank each time, some knetz called him out saying he was selfish, the hate train began for him there. Like he was still 14, not fluent in Korean and he was expected to teach them when ILand should have trainers or teachers help the trainees.

I think it was better for them to not have teachers actually, they had the basics down and the experience taught them a bit of self reliance and responsibility. The best thing, and only thing, we got from Mixnine are the friendships between all these groups afterwards. But one could've only imagined what could've been. Also good idea of Happyface to withdraw the Dreamcatcher members early. Also missing is obviously Stray Kids. And while I agree with iKon pushing Mix&Match to S tier, the ending of the show was F tier.

I-land was interesting in the sense that it had way less contestants and the guys were pretty much their own tutors (minus the sometimes appearances of the coaches who were… pretty useless). It felt way more authentic since the editing felt a bit less squeaky clean and showcased the personalities of the boys a bit more (at least for an mnet show). So it’s no surprise that many people are still attached to it and even go out of their way to rewatch it years later.

My favorite is I-land. On top of the amazing setting, this survival show knew the kind of group they wanted to create and the challenges reflected that. The final group had to have great versatility and dance skills and insanse stage presence and they managed to obtain that. are u kidding, because the editing is terrible and it seems to forced. like technically hybe don't need cj to create a group for them. and it's totally rigged. like the editing .. they could just send anyone to ground, whoever they liked and producers would send them up. so they can just create some victim narrative. they did this for sunoo, they'll do it for a girl in next season and evil edit the rest. it's a terrible show. what saved them was how good they perform as a group, having decent music, especially drunk-dazed and fever, and half of them bighit trainees, who are like unicorns in the industry .. and then also a great creative team behind them. =
@lavistelle6031
@lavistelle6031 Жыл бұрын
@@xoxo-wd9bv The editing was WAY better than the Produce series, especially when it came to performances. It's not rigged lol. During the entire show they painted Ni-ki in a bad light and he still managed to debut and he's now the most popular member. "Evil editing" did nothing to him. And thet hyped K a lot, but still he didn't manage to debut and wasn't chosen by the producers who picked Sunoo. Glad he is in &Team now tho. Obviously it was a show where the producers had a lot more power compared to the Produce series, but it doesn't mean it's rigged. The producers wanted a specific kind of group and they made specific challenges to obtain it. Talented trainees like Genou simply didn't fit the image. It wasn't 100% fan voted, so it's normal the producers' choices had more impact. No one suffered because of evil editing, I would say Jay proved how you can still avoid being evil edited even when the storyline tries to create conflict. I respect him a lot for this. It's not I-land's fault that Sunghoon, Jay, Heeseung, Jake and Jungwon spent all the show together. It was clear they were meant to be in a group and the audience saw it. It was to be determined whom among Sunoo, Ni-ki and K woul join them. The only controversial thing that happened in I-land was Hanbin's elimination. He was clearly a fan-favorite but the producers didn't want him and so they threw him out just when he started to climb up the rankings. They had obviously other plans for him (they let him have a solo performance at the new year Hybe concert), but he left the company and is now in Tempest. I'm glad he managed to debut because he was the one who was treated unfairly in I-land.

@@teumoangene2847 you are right, there is no better feeling than stanning a group after following a survival show, especially if your picks made it. You just know the group better and the bond with them is stronger. All my picks from I-land made it into Enhypen (and K is now debuting with &Team) so I was super happy to stan the group. Usually in the survival shows I watched (like Girls planet) I only have ONE pick and I would sacrifice anyone else to see them debut lol. But in I-land Sunghoon was my main pick since day 1, but during the show I grew attached to all the members of Enhypen and I really wanted them to debut. I'm already thrilled for next year when we will finally be able to come back inside that building with all the new trainees. It will be amazing. I want to see Enhypen's reaction to coming back there. My opinion: Every Kpop Survival Show I watched seemed to think that if there wasn't a crying teen every twenty minutes, people would get bored. Can't say that I like that. And don't get me started on Evil Editing. There has to be a villain sometimes viewers eat just everything up. There are some rules when it comes to reality shows, kpop or not. The most basic on is, NEVER believe an reaction shot. If there face is the only thing on the scene and you can't see what is happening in the frame, they could be reacting to literally anything. Or their nose is just itch or there tired from smiling. But Survival Show performance are god tier, so I always get weak and up watching.

There were so many recognizable contestants (ONEWE (MAS), Junyoung, Hangyul, A.C.E, DIA, Dalshabet, Euijin, Hyunjoo, etc) and a truly iconic panel of judges (Rain, Taemin, AND HyunA?!). It really sucks that UNB and UNI.T didn't gain the popularity they deserved. If anyone reading this hasn't heard of them I really recomend you check them out. Pentagon Maker was a good survival show. I also watched snippets of “The Origin-A, B, or What?” (the show that created ATBO). Cube may not have the best track record, but Pentagon Maker was good from start to finish, no scandals, and every member had the chance to showcase their songwriting skills as well as musical skills in addition to vocal & dance. Like Momoland, Pentagon’s earlier songs weren’t too recognized until Shine came along. Initially a sleeper hit, Shine became big. Gorilla, Dr Bebe & Hmph are great singles too. The most common songwriters of the group are Hui, Dawn (2016-2018) & Kino, but other members have showcased their musical creativity too. ATBO’s show was good. But in your Tier List, WIN, Who’s Next & Mix & Match were great. In general, I like groups that are self-producing. Pentagon Maker should be in A. It had emotion, personality and flair.

The contestants suffered a lot emotionally from No Mercy.... The Monstas avoid talking about it whenever they can and when they do talk about it, there is no fondest whatsoever. They were all told this was basically their only and last opportunity to debut because they were "getting too old", they were not called by their names but by their ranking, their privacy was often intruded upon as they were expected to be available for filming 24/7, some of the judging was overly harsh and pretty much every single one of them was in tears throughout the show... but yes, we're grateful for Monsta X, but f*** No Mercy....

MIXNINE was a failure as a show, but over the years I've found so many groups I really enjoy with members that competed there. There's half of ATEEZ, the original seven that made up ONF, the majority of DREAMCATCHER, and one or two members from groups like LOONA, ONEUS, ITZY, CIX, PURPLE K!SS, Billlie, TAN, KINGDOM, PIXY, Weeekly, MYTEEN and later B.O.Y, A.C.E., and so many more that all appeared on the show. TREASURE it feels like could face some uncertainty. With Mashiho and Bang Ye Dam leaving now, along with the pre-debut departure of Ha Yoon Bin, they've lost nearly a fourth of the original lineup. Looking back now, it feels like there was a lot of hype surrounding Bang Ye Dam's inclusion throughout the show, so now that one of the more prominent main vocals has left it feels a little shaky. My Teenage Girl was pretty much a mess, though not entirely surprising considering at it's core MBK was behind it. Definitely a lot of talent there, but most were far too young, and of the trainees that were either the most ready to debut in Grade 3, or at a last chance to debut in Grade 4, none from Grade 3 made it, and three from Grade 4. Even then, there's a seven year age gap between the oldest and youngest member of CLASS:y. I would almost hope when it's all said and done that Hyungseo, Chaewon, and Hyeju, the three eldest members, get a chance to have a VIVIZ type moment post-CLASS:y.
@light_bit
@light_bit Жыл бұрын
Well, we can blame the voters. Because as far as i know. Majority of the voters on MTG was around the age of grade 1 - early grade 3. As far. Class:y doing kinda fine which they now sold a half of entire DIA sales. I just hope the number not even drop because, even the CEO was part of DIA. She not even treat DIA properly after DIA moved under her management. Plus, they not even comeback until they disband (which is ironic because. They announced Will have comeback on early 2021). My speculation was. This was what MBK want when they want to debuting DIA.

You can't say that mixnine is a failure just because mixnine winners didn't debut due yo companies who didn't agree with the terms. But you will see that mixnine is a success because Most of artist that came in mixnine are really talented esp when they csme out. They already knew what or how to improve and deal facing reality. It also help them to recognize their skills remember that most of vocalist there became a rapper and they turn out so well. They also have showed their creativity in that show and learn a lot with each other

Crying as a Wizone and Oneit. My favourite was iland for sure, but it was both traumatising and a roller coaster of emotions as the rankings of my bias was pretty unstable. I had to continuously vote so that he would debut. I also kinda liked the fact that they had to send trainees to the ground themselves, to make the perfect team. I feel like it was good because they trained together and could clearly see how much work they put into practising and what they were lacking. The fact that they could choose their parts based on their own abilities and not what they were assigned was AMAZING They could show case what they were good at. Not to mention, they had a lot of original songs that I still go back to listen to today

Yes, stray kids was a survival show but it was very much different from most other survival shows In other survival shows trainee are kinda made to compete against each other to win a spot in the final debuting team whereas in skz's show , the debuting team already had 9 members hand picked not by jype but leader Chan himself and this show was meant to prove to their company and jyp that all the 9members in the team are worth debuting and were put to the risk of elemination on failing to do so. Felix and Lee Know actually got eleminated during show, but we're brought back to compare and identify if Stray Kids, as a group is better'with 7 or 9 members In the end they chose to debut skz with all 9 original members. Woojin later left Skz and jyp for personal reasons leaving skz the Jyp double million seller 4th gen leader we know today. Based on skz's current success I would rank Stray kids (show) - 'S' tier.

Yas so true. Yg survuval shows really showed their skills and reality of being an idol. In mixnine you can witness what happened if you didn't cooperate in a team and just thinking about yourself. There's a girl there in mixnine that she claim al position ended up saving herself than her members. Like her position was main vocal, main dancer, leader, center and etc like girl soloist & a back up dancer? XD

Mixnine was the best in terms of the show itself. YG, Seungri and CL personally visiting agencies, letting us see how those agencies and their owners were like, the activities the contestants had, the best original songs, the best theme song, the trainees (like you mentioned), the right amount of drama... I didn't need the debut since it was only going to be for a few months anyway.

Hey Mate. It's been a while since we saw you last. Glad you're back in it. I have a question, does anyone in the k-pop industry take dance/song groups like Girl Crush, Laysha, Fly With Me and such girl dance groups seriously? The first two at least have one or two original songs, but all three dance to covers. Ironically, with very little covering them/their bodies (see what I did there?).

LOUD was so good! I don’t like survival shows in general, but LOUD really got me interested and I enjoyed it a lot! When I say I don’t like survival shows, I mean those Produce Series-like. Those like Stray Kids, where it serves as a pre-debut promotion for the group and the creator already knows, who they want in that group anyway, that’s more less okay. But those like Produce etc are just fake/scripted drama with a group lasting only for some amount of time… So it’s not like with for example JYP forming his another group for his label for many years/for the future. These are basically just groups to earn as much money as possible in those two/something around two years. So obviously they will put in that group not purely those ones, who are the best and the most skilled. But they will give a preference to those, who are attractive to fans even though they might not be as good as other ones. And also after the show there are many contestants, who didn’t make it to the final line up, but they gained some popularity. So their label will want to use that momentum of fame to quickly debut a new group with them. And that has an impact on the training system, which got shorter than it used to be, because those labels debut the groups with trainees, who aren’t the best of the best, but just good enough to debut. And all of this causes the fact that there are a lot of groups on the scene, which are just trying their luck and those greedy businessmen are simply gambling with the life of teenagers, who just wanted to debut

I almost say Stray Kids was also formed through a survival show. Because JYP was willing to kick people out or debut Itzy instead of Stray Kids all together. It's brutal, but almost a more interesting concept that could get rid of rigging. Like "here's a set group," now they compete to stay in group.

SIXTEEN should have been appreciated more seeing as how it came first before Produce 101 and benefited a lot from Somi also appearing on that show. Sixteen also created Twice which because Nation's Girl Group, and many of it's other members have also debuted. Such as Chae Sisters, Jiwoo, etc. The point of these shows should be to launch everyone who appears and Sixteen did that the best.

Tbh I'd put Girls Planet 999 (Kep1er) on the A or even B tier. If the show aired/group debuted a mere 2 years ago, then it would probably be a different story. But the absolute tsunami of successful girl groups this year makes the compeition so stiff that I'd say Kep1er, although moderately popular, unfortunately got drowned out by monsters like IVE, Le Serrafim, Itsy, (G)IDLE, Aespa, and even veterans like Blackpink and Twice. It's unfortunate that groups that stem from a previous Mnet survival show (PD48/IZ*ONE) are now dimming Kep1er's light rather than passing the torch, but oh well. WakeOne, their management company, is also making really strange decisions that is hindering them from reaching their true potential. The solo stan/favoritism/mistreatment situation for Kep1er is also really polarizing within the fandom and is driving potential fans away and even causing people to unstan. Overall I'd say Kep1er would've been more of a smash hit if it weren't for unfortunate external circumstances. The group itself is fairly talented, but they were just dealt with bad cards imo.

Kep1er are not that popular in korea... their songs don't chart outside of bugs which is... BAD for an mnet group, also their album sales aren't growing they are stuck at 350k+ per album while other rookie girl groups like IVE or LE SSERAFIM double or triple their album sales from their previous comebacks, I definitely wouldn't give kep1er S tier especially after we fresh flopped... I'm sorry but that's how I see it, they started really strong with wa da da but after UP they can barely break 40M views

I watched Welcome To Momoland and I liked it (controversies aside) I felt you really saw the strengths of the eventual members (I feel Ahin, Hyebin, and JooE stood out the most). It should also be noted that the original debut date of Momoland was pushed back due to the group's inability to fill a one thousand plus auditorium. While the group just (November 10th) celebrated its sixth year anniversary as a group. Sure Bboom Bboom was the thing that catapulted the group into the limelight but I also think the original survival show assembled said group as well. It's not a terribly memorable show with the exception of a few moments but as a Merry-Go-Round, I have a deep sentimental attachment to the series.
