Play's parents are out of town, and he's planning the house party to end all house parties. His best friend, Kid, wants to go more than anything, knowing Sydney (Tisha Campbell-Martin), the hottest girl in school, is sure to be there. But when Kid gets into a fight at school, his father grounds him. Still determined to go, Kid sneaks out of the house and faces one calamity after another as he makes his way to Play's house and the party of the school year.

This is one of my favorite movies. This movie displayed colorism. Due to Kid & Sidney being light skinned, they were the considerate ones & lived in the suburbs. Due to Play & Sharane being dark skinned, they were perceived as the bad friend, sexually active & lived in the hood. Kid N Play never got the recognition they deserved because they were non violent rappers. They were typecasted as happy go lucky, soft & party rappers. Fun Facts: Play & Martin Lawrence are cousins. This movie was originally for DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince & The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was originally for Kid N Play. It was a win for both parties. Sad fact: Robin Harris the comedian/actor who played Kid’s father passed away nine days after this movie was released. He was on the verge of skyrocketing in his career. Yeah the bullies are Full Force and they were a funk/R&B group who had their song featured in the rap battle. The one you hear singing during the dance battle is the one with the annoying voice.What's interesting is they are also famous for making hit records for other artists like Lisa Lisa and Brittney Spears, N Sync and Backstreet boys. The Dj at the garden party was the master of funk George Clinton the founder and leader of Parliment Funkadelic whose music is the basis of gangsta rap like Dr Dre's Let Me Ride song is sampled off of his music.

There were 4 actors from this movie that appeared in Friday . The first two you already know but the third actor was the guy with the jeri curl whom Kid's dad said follow the drip to, Antony AJ Johnson was his name and he was the tramp stealing other peoples clothes. Bebe Drake is the wife in bed appeared in the third friday movie. It was because of this film that John Witherspoon started to become famous which Friday cemented his status.

Craziest part of the film, was play begging Bilal to DJ and then coming to pick him up late and then just loading his gear into his car amd catching the hell out of it, amd then leaving him and not coming back until way way way later. Like it's jot like he's being paid to DJ there, he's doing it because your his friend, and that's how you treat bro. The way he stood up to Chill who kept bumping the table and messing up the song, that's the way he needed to check play. It was touching how they all came together at the end to bail play out though

I remember watching this when it came out. I was in 8th grade and my friends and I were like how many times did the bully dudes get held back in high school? They had full beards and all. Robbin Harris who played Kids dad is one of my favorite comics. He was also in “Do the Right Thing “. He played Sweet Dick Willie. He passed away way too young.

When you hear stories from other comics who were around at that time they all said that Robbin was the funniest dude. Eddie Murphy said that when they filmed “Harlem Nights “ Robbin and Redd Foxx had them all dying laughing. Eddie said that they should have filmed the behind the camera shit between Robbin and Redd because it was way funnier than the movie was. Robbin was 36 years old,if I remember correctly,when he passed away. We lost an amazing comic.

Kid's situation with his dad where it those two and his mom is dead is loosely based off his real life. He was living with his white mom but she got killed in a car accident and was sent to live and be raised by his Jamaican father. While living with his dad is where he met Play as they both went to the same high school and formed Kid N Play. Martin Lawrence is Play's real life cousin. Kid N Play were very big in the late eighties and early 90s and was what party hip hop was like before L.A. and Miami exploded into the scene in 1990 when 2 live crew and NWA became mainstream. Both were known in black america at that time but they were not mainstream and were in the hard rap category. But when the media started taking notice of 2 live crew then NWA they got huge. And their style of hip hop music by 95 started to dominate and then fully tookover and became pop in 97. So the bars Kid is doing isnt NWA its more east coast old style, Icecube was influenced by the east coast groups like public enemy and KRS One and he was the main writer of the group before he left.
