Sure it's heteronormative - notice I qualified by saying she has no stated sexual orientation that I remember. Because of that, in HS it would be normal for her to be asked to prom. Normal doesn't mean right or wrong, just how things usually work out. Sure girls can ask guys to prom, but she certainly didn't.

Bruh when you're younger you think about how fun it will be picking out a dress and showing up. Once you actually get to prom you've spent so much money you could have gotten yourself a new closet full of cheaper clothing. Luckily I applied to have cheaper prom fees and only paid 75$ instead of the 150$ they were asking.

When my sister went to prom, she went with a big group so that it wouldn’t be awkward because she’s not that dating type of person. She also made her corsage out of fake flowers and everybody else’s died except hers so that was cool. 😎

Yeah. My school had middle school dances. The first one I went to was 12. We danced in boy/girl partner dances and in that middle of the night my 6th grade class got into a circle and just like on every Disney Channel movie ever, we, one by one, and did dances in the middle of the circle. Some people did the worm and other people did PG13 tiktok dances. Yeah, best and most embarrassing night of my life lmaoooo

Honestly that happens a lot, the people who aren’t with the “in crowd” or are considered “nerds” in school end up being super successful and many of the “cool/popular” kids peek in high school. That’s why I tell my boys to be themselves and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing & create their own path. 💙💙

if I could do it all over again...I still wouldn't go my parents where disappointed I didn't go but I was like I saved so much money by not going money that I used to see Def Leppard and KISS my first concert ever that summer which is a memory I'll always treasure not prom but that's me.

same, same! granted, my time is more shorter BUT i don't really regret going(?) i mean yeah, i wonder a "what if i did go?" but honestly i am happy i didn't go. i had my reasons and prom isn't for everyone i feel like if that makes sense? i found it pointless to spend SO MUCH for a high school dance that it was silly in my eyes. maybe i would have fun but i am not regretting no going lol. prom is overhyped as some people in the comments already mention and it's really nothing special but hey, that's just my opinion *shrugs*

My prom date spilled salsa on my like $600 dress 🙃 *it didn’t stain my dress cause of the type of fabric the dress had, I just had my soul slowly fade away from my body at first :) my mom doesn’t this happen btw*

My biggest tip for prom is go with your friends! I want to my junior prom with a “boyfriend” type and he didn’t want to dance or take pictures or talk. It sucked. Then my senior prom (2019), I went with my friend Charles and a small group of people I liked. It was soooo much more fun. Yes I didn’t like a lot of other people that went, but you’re always too wrapped up in your friends to notice. It was way better with them. The only thing I’d change from my experiences

Lol my senior year promposal was my boyfriend at the time getting all of my fellow varsity cheer squad members and getting them all do go up into a stunt and spelling out "P R O M ?" And he was standing there with flowers and a crown for me to wear lol

Honestly, dances like homecoming and prom were my favorite parts of high school and I wish there were YA proms. I enjoyed getting decked out and living in the moment. Its definitely a different energy
