I get that people may think they are easy to get rid of as they are seemingly easy to unalive. But and the big but they breed. The saying should be they breed like mealybugs not rabbits. I hope you both have fun and good luck

I would be using a spray bottle with alcohol for that mealie collection 😂

When I treat for mealybugs I use a painting brush i a size that fit the task and then I use hand sanitizer on gel form. I put the gel on the top of a lid from a jar and then i whipe the whole plant and dry the brush in a piece of towel every time I put more on it. It takes a while for the gel to vaporize and I don't do anything but isolating the plant afterward end it does seem to work for me :)

Submerge the entire plant in a 5 gallon container with dawn soap alcohol and warm water for 15 minutes ..follow up with Castile soap sprays and repot with fresh soil and add systemic glandular treatment in the soil…

Love how you make mealy bugs funny. I highly recommend using a watercolor pen for alcohol application on hoyas. Just put the alcohol in the pen and hit the button a few times and it comes out and you can brush your meal bags away. I found mine on Amazon.

WOW!!! I have literally been going over my Hoyas today with the earbuds and alcohol. I thought my Carnosa 'Krimson Queen' was bad but now I don't need to worry 😁😂🤣😂

Lift the pot of orchid bark planted pots. If the wood is dark it's moist still, if it's light colored it needs to be watered.

I have a dragon tree that I have been fighting mealy bugs for the past 2 yrs. I spray straight rubbing alcohol on the full plant and new growth that I find any bugs on. It's only been the last month that there has been no sign of mealy bugs.

And after giving my outdoor gardens my full attention for the last three weeks I finally got to my house plants this morning!I had mealy bugs in one room on my hoyas, but this morning I found them everywhere! I loved watching you and Farah bantering back and forth with each other, over the plants and mealy bugs. The two of you can have fun together over plants, I would like a friend like that. My husband is not interested in my Plants at all. :(

Thank you both for sharing part of the time you spent together. (Also the mix of disgust and fascination for the mealybugs that you both had was very entertaining 😂) As for pests… I guess most are easy to get rid of if you catch it early (I twice found some mealies on a new plant, removed them and kept checking, never had them turn into a real infestation). But once they spread it gets hard and turns into a battle (personally experienced that with thrips, that took 6 months to get rid of).. Those people who say it is easy to get rid of a real infestation in a large collection probably don’t know what they are talking about, either that or they have limitless time and energy and think hard work is easy 🤔 I do however think it is possible to be “pest free” when everything is always nipped in the bud by vigorously checking/beneficials/soap (maybe in some parts of the world systemics).

As bugs go I think Mealies are not that ugly. I guess being white and fuzzy with tails helps. They could be cats of the pest world. Anyway, I really just wanted to comment that this was actually fun pest control which is impossibly enjoyable video content.

Thank you for the video! I have these pests also in my collection. Always cheking to keep them in control. The weird thing is that over time they have started to look kind cute when they are walking along the vines.

Dealing with bugs skeeves me out like they do you. I feel like they are on me, which makes me itchy and twitchy. To be honest, I would have tossed that plant. I've tossed a few that weren't nearly as infested, but the mealybugs just kept showing up on them no matter how many times I treated them. Hoya Australis was on the way to the gallows, but (knock wood) I think I may finally have gotten rid of them on her. I just took some harsh measures with Hoya Krimson Queen yesterday. If that doesn't cure her, we will be parting company. I'm trying a new mix of two types of Castille soap (peppermint and tea tree), alcohol, peroxide, and water. Fingers crossed, it will be more effective than just alcohol, but we'll see.

I’m excited you will be growing the Kaikoeana to see your experience with it. When I first bought her last fall she was happily growing in my care until I cut two ugly leaves off. She quit growing completely and continues to sulk. Curious if it’s just me. 😳🔪

That is 🤢. I have some but I spray Isopropyl 70% alcohol all over the plant and then use the cotton swabs to remove.

me again, speaking of pests. I am really more concerned about flat mites or false mites. I bought a few Hoyas with thick stems and lots of stunted growth (crippled buts). I did get a microscope (the one which looks like a thick pen). I can't find any crawling reddish pest. Still I can't get it to grow. Never done the Sulfer treatment, but thinking of it. I bought the Sulfur from Bonite from the US. Mine are all in Pon or Leca. What is your take on trying it with the Sulfer?? Thanks
