With hundreds of thousands of views online, spoken word poet Andrea Gibson is known for creating deeply personal, vulnerable art. But when Gibson learned they had cancer, they transformed a difficult diagnosis into their greatest teacher.
Looking death straight in the eye has taught Gibson how to welcome in the unthinkable, and savor the fullness in every moment.
Here, Andrea Gibson shares the lessons that facing mortality has granted them, passing onto us the wisdom that meditating with ephemerality can create.

The timing of finding this is interesting. I'm facing a similar situation, and have made a similar choice. I allow this. I'm not going to spend what time I have fighting. Thanks Andrea.

I had this thought "if you know only the woods your hole life, wouldn't you want to leave it behind? If you felt only the light on your face from betwen the shade of the woods would you not want to feel the warmth of the sun to feel what others felt"

Thanks for sharing your truth and thoughts here Andrea. My story of letting go is not about mortality, it is about obsessive love. I was madly in love with someone for a very long time but I couldn't tell her. I could not bare the thought of her turning me down. The day I told her was the day she turned me down, and even though I coudn't imagine it until this day, it became the happiest day of my life. It enabled me to let go, and this was what my whole body immediately did. I litterally felt a huge boulder come off my chest. I was free in a way I never would have considered freedom before then. It even took me a whole three days to realise why I was smiling all the time even though the worst case scenario happend. That was the day I learned of the power of letting go. It can be such a powerful feeling. I also learned that some thoughts and feelings can be really difficult to let go off until they are shared with those who are involved in them. Hope this can help someone out there.

I share Andrea's words with as many as I can--they teach me more and more everyday. Andrea, you are a bright light that I aspire to guide half as well as you've done for us. Thank you for all your love and words.

Never losing the astonishment of existing, thank you for this vital message!! It's strange how a greater fear than mere living can let us appreciate life better, I've experienced that with health issues and during the height of COVID, and that acceptance is often more powerful than obstinate resistance. Thank you Andrea for glowing brightly and reminding us of the noble role poetry holds!

Exactly. After diagnosis, and I processed and grieved, and made a few decisions, I became liberated.

"There is more time in a moment than in a decade" love it! Thank you ❤

"A moment can be longer than a decade" Even from a more analytical perspective I find this to be very true for the following reasons. #1 In any even slightly complex environment (you hanging out with your pet , sitting in a park w.e) there's basically an INFINITE amount of detail to take in. The way light reflects off of leaves, the substructure of the plants - that single observation has enough detail to be worthy of several people's life's work , think about the optics, biology and horticulture involved. Then you look at an animal, and again, when you think about it there are endless observations, details, and feelings to be had. #2 Of course looking/thinking about things at a maximum level of detail every moment is completely untenable, so our brain filters most of it and we end up just focusing on a couple things throughout the day. And over the course of a decade, *if we're not careful* we summarize it all down to a couple bullets: Went to college met great people, learned how to play an instrument, went out alot, had a couple relationships - for example. #3 Between the filtering/summarizing that our brain does, the amount of information which we retain about a decade is only a fraction of what is available in an individual moment. However in a MOMENT with the right mindset you can zoom all the way in and take in every grain of detail that your brain can bare, and from that perspective of resolution of experience - moments can be much fuller than a decade..before they inevitably evaporates of course, to give way to the next Just my thoughts, hope you all have luck with your endeavors.

And what exactly do you expect Andrea to get from that? A cure for cancer?
@CosmicJestar
@CosmicJestar Ай бұрын
@@theobserver9131 well my understanding of cancer is that it cannot survive on ketones so with the carnivore diet you would starve the cancer and with combination of fasting: great results would happen...
@taylorharthun5979
@taylorharthun5979 29 күн бұрын
@CosmicJestar cancer does thrive on carbs and when some is in ketosis there breath often smells of the acetone in there bodies so probably not eating carbs and fasting for 20 hours a day would cure the cancer in as little as 6 months unfortunately the diet will have killed her in 20 days ppl can't eat like that protein poisoning will kill you that's without fasting your body uses carbs for feul your brain is mostly fat so what happens to that when you don't eat fats ? It begins to shrink ketones might not be able to support the health of cancer cells but it won't support non cancerous cells either. Cancer cells are almost the same as normal cells that's why the body doesn't fight it off being that similar to a regular cell just make sense that what can harm one type of cell isn't OK for other cell types I'm pretty sure eating just meat will ruin your kidneys.

Okay don't listen to this zombie then who has survived on almost zero carbs for years and now has been carnivore for a good while....also having done fasts longer than a week numerous times.... You might want to broaden your research bubble ;) ...with Paul Mason or Anthony Chaffee etc....
