In this week’s episode, I review the step by step Lightroom editing process I use on all my landscape photos. I'm currently in beautiful Bali Indonesia where I edit one of my favorite photos I've created on my trip thus far. With all the tools and sliders inside of Lightroom I personally find it super beneficial to see how other photographers edit their photos. I always pick up at least one helpful tip from watching others go through their photo editing workflow and my hope is that you'll be able to do the same watching my workflow. In this video, I walk through an entire start to finish Lightroom edit of an incredible image from my recent trip. I hope you enjoy this week's video and as always thanks so much for watching! - Mark D.

For White balance adjustments, try this: Boost the saturation to 100 and then make your temperature and hue adjustments, finally restoring the saturation level to nominal.

I do a lot with "push pull" techniques like this. Go way over the top then drop opacity to like 20% often a great way to adjust.

I will sometimes pick something in my image that I want to be grey, boost the saturation to 100, toggle between b/w and color and adjust until it looks the same in both

I picked up your “sun radius” technique a few months ago and I love using it! One step I’ve added to the process is to subtract some of the shadows from that layer with a luminosity filter. I feel like it gives it a more natural look. Thinking if i were to be standing there looking at it the sun would naturally blind me
@johnd9357
@johnd9357 Жыл бұрын
By “subtract the shadows” are you saying you’re just darkening the shadows?
@SjStone
@SjStone Жыл бұрын
@@johnd9357 after adding the radial filter I click on the Subtract button for that filter, right below it, and select a luminosity filter. Then click on the shadows I don’t want affected by the dehazing process. Hope that makes sense

Beautiful picture and thanks for the tips. I often take my landscape shots a bit dark too, to get a better sky then fix it in post processing. That's when having a larger sensor really pays for itself with the extra dynamic range.

I love what you did with the photo. I would love to hear and understand more about your workflow. For example, you reduced the Highlights slider and increased the Shadows slider, but then increased the Highlights and reduced the Shadows in Curves. I know Texture and Clarity are not they same - may be siblings or cousins - so I’m curious about reducing Clarity and increasing Texture. It would be massively helpful if you are able to explain why you do some of these things. Many thanks.

I'm curious about this as well, I know the highlights/shadows sliders in the "Basic" section don't do exactly the same things as making the same adjustments in Curves but an explanation on the specifics would be nice

Wonderful. So glad you did 2 things near the end. 1). Removed the water bottle, which was bothering the heck out of me, once you pointed it out. :). 2) Changed the lighting near the end in the upper right quadrant. What you had originally edited there didn't really work for me, but those changes right at the end nailed it for me. :). Thanks!

I'm glad you made a visit to my country. Indonesia has been underrated as a destination, Westerners tend to visit Thailand or other South East Asian countries, and bypass Indonesia, despite the country being the largest one in SEA. We are comprised of about 18,000 islands with about 1,340 ethnicities. Thank you once again for visiting Indonesia and I would like to urge people reading this comment to visit Indonesia. It's the largest archipelago in the world and the Dutch used to call us the Spice Islands back in the colonial days for a great reason.

A really good demonstration video. By keeping to the topic but more, in keeping it relatively simple for enthusiastic amateurs like myself, it then is both quite easy easy to follow and to understand. Too technical and its easy then to lose practicality. Mark is a great presenter with an easy to follow and listen to style.

Hi Mark, as others have commented, do you ever bracket your images? for HDR images I tend to bracket the shot to ensure I have enough data to bring up the shadows and reduce the highlights. Occasionally I have merged HDR images as layers in Photoshop, this can help with ensuring you always have the correct exposure for highlights and shadows.
