Thank you so much for your videos. This one was especially powerful for me. I am newly paralyzed and had the “I can’t transfer” talk with myself not too long ago. This week I was able to transfer unassisted out of bed and really was surprised and excited. I’ve been following you and look forward to each and every video. I’ve also shared with able bodied friends and family regarding your UTI info. You are an inspiration.

Well I never thought I'd be in a wheelchair one day and wish I had known at least a little about it before I was hurt. I am glad that you are taking the time to learn. If you ever find yourself in a wheelchair you'll be less overwhelmed than i was lol. I hope you never need the information beyond curiosity 🙂 though!

I agree 100%. I've been a para for 37 yrs. I'm now 74 and still live an active life. I sing with an elite choir that tours internationally and also love to travel on my own. I was already an adult with a home and family to take care of, so I was more motivated to become independent than I would have been at 13. The key milestones for me after basic ADLs were 1.Driving again, 2. Joining a wc tennis program (needs no special equipment and you can play on any tennis court with anybody, w/c or not. 3. Swimming! I was a strong swimmer before and feel very free and comfortable in water; I must have been a mermaid in another life. It's getting out that makes me feel like a beached whale! As a concession to my aging shoulders I got a SmartDrive power assist 3 yrs ago. Take as good care of the working parts NOW so they don't fail in the future (It took me 6 arm/hand surgeries to figure this out!) Love your matter of fact approach to all the pesky issues no one knows about. I've never met a para who wouldn't choose normal plumbing over walking in a heartbeat. Like you, l don't think a lot about living life in a wc, I'm too busy just living life. Keep up the good work!

I have discovered your channel a couple days ago. My wife Diana and I have been listening together. I have a disability too. Not the same as yours . I was born with a hearing loss. Nerve damage from birth. I am very tone deaf. I wore hearing aids but they didn't help much. I got picked on alot... they would pull on my hearing aids laugh at me I was very shy and with drawn. I struggle in school. Spelling and reading was difficult for me. As an adult I have overcome alot of obstacles. One thing about having a disability it gives you compassion for those around you. I used to be upset with God about my hearing loss why did I have to have it. Why couldn't I be normal like everyone else. My voice sounds different from everyone else because of my hearing loss. I thank God now for my hearing loss now. It's made me into the person I was supposed to be.

Thanks for your honesty and your willingness to share your journey with us, a journey that's accumulated much wisdom and knowledge. I'm more amazed at how important that it is to balance body, soul, and spirit! Our Mind/Spirit is the Genesis of everything that we do. It all "begins" with a thought, which is generated from the unseen part of us, and those thoughts develop into ideas and are finally expressed into the physical realm via our bodies. I believe that this is where the Spirit and flesh interact. Look at how much your "mood" changes when dealing with pain, especially chronic pain. I'm trying to better maintain a balance between the Spiritual and physical aspects of life, keeping in mind that the Spirit is eternal and the flesh temporal. When this flesh has served it's purpose, it goes back to the dust [minerals] that it was formed from. But the Spirit returns to the Father that gave it LIFE. How awesome to know that we're Eternal Beings living in a temporal tabernacle. Thanks again, Brittany, for sharing your beautiful spirit with us. You're a gift and a sister! ❤

Oh, so now I get why you swam the way you did on your Trip to Mexico video. So you basically “dog paddle” with your head above the water, rather than putting your head in the water. If you ever get to that point, I think you’ll get more enjoyment and confidence in it, as your legs will float up and you will move a lot quicker thru the water.

Spinal cord injuries is a hard medical field since you cant experiment on people, but over the last 30 years they have made huge advancements. They have severed the spinal cord on mice and regrown them, again cant play with people. Christopher Reeves even regained some functions so its still unknown what the body can repair on its own. Long stories to get to this question. Have you looked into stem cells? I know there are still restrictions one what's allowed no matter the possibilities, but if they can ever get approval amazing things are being done in labs around the world. Have you considered traveling to other places where they are allowed to go deeper into what stem cells can do?

I don't live my life hoping to walk someday. That would be nice but I try to be grateful for what I have and want to use my time making memories, not trying to walk again. I've known lots of people that went to other countries for stem cell treatment and the results were not great. But it's a great question! Thanks for taking the time to ask it!
