That’s what scares me about overnight cooks. A lot of people go to bed and let it cook all night, but there are too many things that can go wrong. Good thing you caught that!

This was a real important video for us Pit Boss Pro smoker owners. I have no idea, if my chute has come undone or not. I'd seen the drain tray going across the back before, but frankly I'd never thought how the grease flowed into the grease container on the back. Anyway, I will be checking as I need to do a complete scrub down of my unit in the next couple of days. I have a good idea what your trick will be, so I won't spoil your next video. The only trouble I've had was an auger fire, that I've decided was caused by a lack of water in the water tray, and because I hadn't dumped out the ashes from the prior cook. Fwiw: I thought something was up during the entire cook, because I saw burning bits of embers/ash in the cook chamber the entire cook. The bottom line is, they are serious about the water in the water tray, and always dump out the old ashes.

Great video, good catch! I have the same unit, the other issue I've found is that the channel for the grease doesn't go straight down and back. It jogs to the right a little and then drops down to the grease trap. I had a chunk of charred stuff clog my drain on the second smoke and it took like 3 hours to clean it out. I called pitboss and asked if they have a tool and they suggested buying an aftermarket oil dipstick because it's strong but very flexible. Ended up pouring degreaser down there and using a metal rod I had laying around to finally break up the chunk.

It pays to stay on top of cleaning that trough. I’m not the best but I know I need to do better. I may have to look into getting a dip stick though. That’s not a bad idea. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience! Smoke on!

I haven’t had the same issue but glad you covered it. My main concern is how to clean out the vertical shaft or shoot that leads down to the grease trap. We smoked a brisket and the grease bubbled up and hardened up black. Clogging up the whole back trough all the way down to the bottom. So please let me know or make a video on what you might use to get in there and clean it out with??? I have found using a long flat head screwdriver about a foot long to knock out most of the debris, works ok. I’m looking into getting a drill bit accessories. Like some sort of long brush maybe. Lol Anyways like your videos, keep on doing what you do.

Thank you sir. I will have to check when the rain stops and i can play outside. I actually recently was doing chicken quarters and had a big fire, there were flames shooting out of the top of the same model smoker. Toasted the seal on the door and I am going to have to sand and paint the top. Thankfully i was able to clean it up, replace the seal, and still use it a few times since. I didnt take it all apart tho and give it a good cleaning. I recently ordered a new themostat too. I havent put it in yet, but i am easily 50 degrees lower then its set to. Hopefully greese channel and cleanout of the burn box area fixes.

You don't remember this but I told you about this like six months ago, maybe longer. I discovered this flaw when I cleaned it the first time. I also posted on the Pit Boss Facebook group with pictures. I do a thorough cleaning after 5/6 cooks now also plus leave a pan on the bottom shelf to catch grease.

I always have a pan on my bottom rack that catches everything - lined with foil. 12x17 "jelly roll" pan fits perfectly. Rarely do I get anything in the grease catch. Or even on the tray. Good video - will keep an eye out. PS - a buddy of mine just picked up the same model last week. He has the updated "10 degree" temp settings vs the 25 and 50 degree steps we have. Come on @pitboss. Give us a firmware update! Please! That 250 to 300 gap is ridiculous for "PROSERIES" labeled smoker.
@TheAmericanSmoke
@TheAmericanSmoke Жыл бұрын
You 💯 in the temps. If you don’t have precise control over the temp it should be called the Easy-Smoke. Not Pro Series! I’ve had people complain to be about not being able to set at 275 in the newer models and I’m over here forced to choose between 250 and 300! 😤
@mikee10
@mikee10 Жыл бұрын
@@TheAmericanSmoke Right? Honestly I have made due just fine. The lack of anything between 250 - 300 is the only pain point. While I'd like more options in that gap - the fact that my smoker works - and has had zero issues - im good. A firmware update would be welcome though.

This is what you get from "Made in China"! Pit Boss should put out a deluxe model made at home, and one that addresses all the major concerns that have been brought up by owners. I solved this issue by taking out the grease catcher and inserting a custom-made deeper water and fat tray. Plus I put a ceramic tile at the bottom to control the heat transferred to the tray. This setup eliminates a lot of clean-up and keeps the smoker looking new for longer.

We are like minded. Im currently looking for some high heat adhesive and sealant for a couple different areas. I have never used the 1600 but I'm sure its a fine unit. @@gilbertsaucedo2051 you can go without it. May need to spritz the meat a little more though. Very often, I put an aluminum pan on the bottom shelf and fill it with water as well. Makes it to where I don’t have to worry with it as often. Your only going to have to refill the water pan on longer cooks anyway. If it dries up on a rack of ribs or something smaller like that, you will be fine.
