Matt lost his medical license after his boss, Richard, confronted him for the deed. He eventually confessed that he and Kelly had an affair 6 months ago. How her husband(also his friend), Ryan, found out and she was going to lose everything in the divorce because of the prenuptial agreement. Matt couldn't afford to see that happen and plotted to get rid of him. They were going to kill Ryan through a botched surgery and thus, getting the money. He and Kelly were foiled by the stray dog who saw this plan. Richard tells Matt off that he was wrong and as a doctor, he should've been upholding his Hippocratic Oath to protect those who needed it. He retorts that he had every right to murder Ryan after all this because he loves Kelly and will do anything for her. Matt mentions that he gets foiled by a stupid mutt who informed his boss everything he did. Richard points out if it hadn't been for Maxie, he wouldn't have known what happened until it was far too late. He thanked God she was there to help him stop this madness. The nurse has already informed the police and both Matt and Kelly are going to jail for a long time for their attempt to Ryan's life. As the cops takes the two away, she is heard screaming that he should've kept his big mouth shut. Matt defends himself, pointing out that he didn't care about him losing his medical license as long as Ryan was dead and Kelly was with him. She points out that thanks to his stupidity, they'll have nothing and will be incarcerated for the rest of their lives. Kelly's point proves true once Ryan recovers from that trauma. He made sure that she and Matt were prosecuted to the fullest, lost everything and remained in jail. Afterwards, Ryan adopted Maxie and later found a new woman who loves him for him.

It's the love of money. We all unfortunately have to have money to live, but for some people money is placed above all else and will do anything for it, even murder as this video shows.

I posted above that whatever the sentence is for attempted murder there should be special ENHANCEMENTS (kind of like hate crime enhancements) where the sentence is EVEN LONGER than most other cases of attempted murder if the murderer has a profession that specifically involves preserving life (like a DOCTOR) and while in a professional capacity that person is using their position as a way to commit the murder.
