@@sherloidbai7064 Naw, Previous owner threw new pipes/headers on for 550, hoses for 175, Autozone plug wires, stock valve covers, stock air intake (with lime green paint for style points) , BBK air intake 189, poly mounts on the engine 80 bucks, transmission mounts 50 bucks, stock transmission, SVE radiator 200 bucks, second hand aluminum drive pulleys for 50, and leaking oil like a sieve from the rear main.. The engine has all the care a 17 year old in shop class would give it with the flash parts but not where it counts. So naw, 8K is a fantasy on this one, with the numbers I put up and I would put a hard bet on them, this engine has about 1400 in superficial parts bolted on it. I know he said early in the video that it had a large cam in it, but with the lack of replacement of the stock parts, I would put zero truth on that. I had a 78 Monte Carlo when I was in HS. I put headers, pipes on it and it sounded good too. I didn't spend 8K either.

That will happen if the transmission is NOT synchronized (synchromesh) or the synchronizer is bad. Should not have a problem down shifting into first if synchronized. I remember riding in a truck with my father and he had to double clutch it. Once to go out of gear and then again to go into gear. Down shifting he had to rev the engine so rpm would match and yes double clutch, which is what a synchronizer does.

I think they put a fresh engine in it and then proceeded to beat the hell out of it before proper ring seating. You're supposed to give them 500 miles of easy driving not over 3K RPM. 1989 engines had forged pistons from the factory. Pretty hard to destroy those although it can be done. 1990 started the hypereutechtic pistons.

Heat and load seats rings... not driving like grandma. Run it up to at least 4 grand hard and let off and let the engine slow the vehicle down. Do that for a little while and drive while varying rpm. I built one of these about 10 years ago, used racing chrome moly rings and the engine did the exact same thing. They are the hardest to get to seat, mine used to fill the intake tube with oil, but the compression was insane. Do some research, if it does have chrome moly rings, its a common thing. Doesnt mean anything is wrong, just hard to get them to seat properly.

@braden6402
@braden6402 3 жыл бұрын
That’s called the IAC. Yes, this is used for cold starting of engines to adjust idle, but this is not his issue. That would only effect the initial start of the engine but it continues to die as a result of severe blow by. This is most likely cracked piston rings or rings not seated correctly causing low compression hence why it keeps stalling.

Awesome find Randy! I didn't read all comments but will be watching for results of compression test. One thing I would look at though, speaking from experience, I know many of the 302's in the mid to late 80's had a blasted PCV screen located below the PCV valve itself. Had an 87 crown vic years ago, bought it off a young kid who built the 302, somehow didn't realize this screen existed, screen was so plugged the PCV valve was pointless. Make sure when you tear into that engine, that it either doesn't have said screen, or that the screen is cleaned and not plugged. In my case, high volume oil pump served to double the blow by lol!

@@scottbaker9066 not arguing with you, but if you have ever had a pretty woman or a souped up car or built a car you should know that its past directly affects its future. In another words the past will always rear its ugly head. Once you put money into a car you will loose about 3 quarters of that money when you decide to sell. Thats why most car guys just end up keeping there Hoopdie collection untill they die. You can spend a lot of money and get nothing for it when you sell it. Thats widely known among all car guys and guys with pretty women. In another words for every thousand you put in you might get a dollar back.

Seems like a lot of money in accesories while still using the stock intake and what appear to be stock heads. What a waste. An Explorer intake at least would have been good. I dont know there is $8,000 in engine, heck a 331 crate engine would be cheaper. And that stock T5 tranny has syncros that are toast. I have rebuilt a fair bit of those and have had 5 fox bodies. Nothing sounds like them, and at least it sounds good.

Wish ya the best on the engine , but you do have a great foundation to build on.

Just bring in Vtuned , Tavarish and Texasspeed and this thing should be an incredible piece of Automobile. Definitely some mismatched parts and Tune not done properly for sure (90% sure!!). Anyways Randy you are capable now and its equally exciting for me to watch and learn this engine disassembled and rebuilt (texasspeed can definitely hook you up.) @@fomocopowersgarage7103 the teal wouldn't be factory. Teal or anything close to teal was not even available from factory on the Mustang in 1989. Teal was only available on the '93 Cobras for that generation of Mustang. Calypso is close to that but wasn't available for the Mustang LX only '91-92.
