You forgot the olive oil! You put a little soap, water AND a tablespoon or two of olive oil. The soap is used to keep the olive oil dispersed throughout the spray bottle for 30 seconds when you shake it. Shake, spray, shake, spray. I promise it won’t kill your plants but they will look beautiful when the oil coats the leaves. And it makes it slippery for the bugs so they go elsewhere

@@fitztastico I use about a tablespoon of dish soap, and a few drops of neem oil. One to kill the pests, the other to trash their eggs in the soil. If it's still a problem, then I may also mix a separate spray bottle with about a tablespoon of peroxide, and water, and spray the soil until it's just a little damp. That's more for gnats though, and you don't wanna do that more than every 3-6 months or it can start to harm the plant. Sometimes I put a dill plant or marigolds around in there, too. Repels a few kinds of bugs and mosquitos. I def have issues with gnats these days because I have fish tanks, and they love to vibe with my fishes who are too stupid to eat them.

@@ItsJustMe0585 How much water are you mixing the teaspoon of dish soap with? I have not really had many issues with garden bugs, so I don't have much experience testing varying strengths I'm growing a bunch of different milkweed varieties this year for the first time and they almost universally have significant issues with oleander aphids. Most people decide not to address the aphids because it can harm the monarch caterpillars that feed exclusively on milkweed but I found an old article that suggested using rubbing alcohol - have you tried that before on plants? I used to feed ants to our beta fish 😁. Maybe if you threw something that lively in the tank and your fish went after it, they would learn to go after the gnats as well Fungus gnats in potted plant soil ARE something I have experience with though. I have found the best method is to cover the soil with a layer of rough/sharp sand (not play sand) which kills the larvae in the soil by preventing them from emerging and prevents the existing adults from burrowing into the soil to lay eggs. I then recommend removing it after a few weeks since keeping it in place has killed few of my plants (no easy way to determine when to water, so I overwatered). Laying a few coffee filters over the top of the soil before putting the sand on will help you remove it easily after it's done the job
@ItsJustMe0585

@@fitztastico 1 litre spray bottle. I also grow my pepper plants inside so I have to address them. If they were outdoors, I'd probably only spray them if things get out of hand. That's also a good bit of advice for the fish. Think I'll try that as soon as the ants return. Thanks! :) Oh and I've not tried running alcohol. Neem oil may still work on its own, too. Look up to see if it harms the caterpillars. Good luck, bud

I'm so sorry this happened. Danny you & Wanda have such success with your plants & seeds. By the way that bottle looks you used way to much dish soap. You should never have a blue color.. The intense sunlight in the greenhouse with too much soap is what burnt up your plants.. You should have used just a eye drop of soap. I use an children's medicine dropper from the pharmacist. I mean not the dropper full. Just a few small drops. I also add cayenne ground pepper to the water & dish soap.(A capful of cayenne from the lid) I had rabbits eating our lettuce. The trick to it is spraying the soap off of the plants after 30 minutes or so, otherwise the soap stops up the leaves and they can't breathe. At least that's how it was told to me when I was a kid and we did it.

We exclusively use Dawn Ultra, non-antibacterial, and we use a *high* concentration in our spray bottle. D@mn-near any insect you spray it on will be dead in about two minutes, which gives us plenty of time to come back and gently spray it back off before the solution can dry. Besides, you don't want to leave concentrations of dead aphids on your plants, that's not healthy for them either.

Yes wrong soap but even if all your leaves fall off don’t throw out your plants the leaves will regrow and rebloom! The cheap dish soap trick does work if done correctly! And leaves will grow back and bloom as long as the trunk and roots are alive! I lost all the leaves on all my peppers last year due to pest I dishsoaped the entire bed and after a few weeks everything grew back and I had lots of peppers til fall.

So many dish soaps are much harsher than they used to be. They are oil strippers and they are meant to hold the oil in suspension in dish water. The old ones let the oil float on the surface as the water cooled so it may be the kind of dish soap used. Your water had a blue color which tells me you used to much. just a couple of drops will do. The peppers may come back. I have noticed a funny thing. Black ants love aphids. We have a long row of peonies and the ants love them. So we have a lot of ants. My daughter's house plants became infested with aphids and her cacti had scale on it, She set them all outside and the ants were all over them. They thrived and no more aphids or scale. Love your videos and your honesty. Throwing out the peppers in anger is something many people would do and then never show. I'm re-watching your old videos and making sure to like them. I hope it helps you to get better credit for them.

Interesting about the ants. I wonder if they also do damage though in other ways and how would you bring them into a greenhouse? As for the dish soap I too thought the water looked really blue for just a little bit. Personally I try not to buy soap with dye in it, but I wondered if using a nonscented castille soap would've had the same result and been effective? Also, I thought diatomaceous earth was beneficial against aphids or Neem oil. Think Melisa (Homestead Moma) has mixture recipe she uses and I think it works on aphids!

Omg, the same thing happened to me! On the recommendation of many people online, I used the Walmart Brand version of the Mint Castille Soap in water. I think it was one-half tablespoon per gallon of water the get rid of Aphids. The Aphids are gone, but a dark coloration formed on my leaves, then the leaves turned yellow & started falling off. The good news is, while I lost a lot of the baby peppers that were still surrounded in the flower, all of the fully formed peppers seem ok, and the leaves are starting to regenerate & grow back! So if this happens to you, just be a little patient & wait and see if your plants can bounce back & recover from the trauma. I'm not sure I would try the soap method again, however, because initially it is very upsetting after you've worked so hard to grow your big, beautiful pepper plants!

It also keeps them from "leaving home" right away. Worked like magic! Plus they are fun to look at. Great as long as you don;t mind tiny insects on you. Come spring, let them go!

When you find the remedy, please share. We have fought them things in our garden, and last year, I finally broke down and used some 7 dust. Yes I said it outloud; but I was at the point of seeing all our hard work go down the drain. I'm so sorry about you plants.

My daddy and my parents in law always used 7 dust on their garden. It works so well. They used it on the very young plants. They punched several small holes in the bottom of a tin coffee can, fastend a long stick or broom handle to the side of the can to be used as a handle, poured the seven dust in it and walked down the rows, shaking the dust on top of his plants. I remember using it for fleas, ticks and lice on the animals. That was before I realized the risk of using it. I would still use it on my garden, if I needed it and I couldn't find something less toxic. If there is such a thing, and it still work. I would do whatever it took before I lost my vegetables. I would rather eat my food grown successfully with (maybe) some limited toxins, than the food at the grocery, that I can be sure is grown with the use of it, and probably a lot of it.So, do NOT feel guilty about it. The main thing is to get your food on your table, in your freezer and in your pantry. At least, that is what I have decided. Go full circle and come right back to doing what I know works.

I am so so sorry this happened to you and Wanda. I do remember watching a channel called The Rusted Garden, his name is Gary pilarchik something like that. He talks a lot about that's sort of things with the bugs and natural remedies versus commercial remedies. Sometimes the bad outweighs the good or the good outweighs the bad on what type of treatment you use. Check them out he saw really knowledgeable person. If I knew how to send you a link I would but I don't.

I wonder if you used Dawn dish soap? That stuff is of industrial strength! I buy it and save it for my big-deal jobs around the house, but never would consider it for a delicate living plant. Hello Danny, the same horrible thing happened to me! I feel your pain. For years after killing some seedlings with regular "mild" dish soap and water I said I would never use dishwashing liquid again, until recently. This year I switched to a lavender and mint plant based liquid dish soap from "Seventh Generation" for my dishes. It is a USDA certified 85% biobased product. So, I thought I'll try this on my grape vines which were infested with red spider mites, hornworms, cutter leaf bugs and the annoying, western grapeleaf skeletonizer. I was getting desperate, and you know what? IT WORKED! I hosed off my grape vines with water at sunset to knock off as many pests as possible. Then with about the last two tablespoons of this liquid, I filled up the rest of the dish liquid bottle with water and replaced the cap with a spray nozzle. I sprayed the grape leaves lightly from the top and underneath. Not only did the pests disappear, but the grape leaves actually started looking healthier and greener. Now I repeat this routine every two or three days to keep on top of things. I hope this helps. Just to compare apples to apples, I have a perfectly healthy "Yolo Wonder" bell pepper that I just sprayed as a test. I will let you know what happens. Side Note: I water my outdoor plants with dirty dish water containing the lavender and mint "Seventh Generation" dish soap and so far, all my fruit trees (dwarfs), herbs and vines are thriving. I have yet to use it in my vegetable garden. *** By the way, I do not do this when I use bleach or scouring powder in my dishwater.

Aphids are easily combated with cool black coffee or strong cold tea. The kind you make ice tea from. Aphids are also attracted to nitrogen, so going easy on nitrogen may prevent an infestation in the first place.

I have no idea what went wrong there, but I've been using a mix of let's say 1 gal lukewarm water, a good tbsp green soft soap and about 2 tbsp of sunflower oil, thoroughly mixed, for aphids. Let it cool down before use. It's NEVER failed on me and was a recipe from my grandma who was a plant wizard. The aphids drop from the plants at the moment you start spraying, not a single one survives and even lettuce and spinach stay totally edible and tasty. When you use it outside, repeat treatment after every rainfall. Danny, I really encourage you to try this some time, maybe just on one plant, the only thing you'll see is some oil residue on your leaves but if you're going to eat those you can just wash and eat them. It REALLY works and it's totally biodegradable!

Please reach out to Stacy and ask about your particular situation, (Off Grid With Doug & Stacy). Stacy makes a natural pest spray. (water, garlic, onions, cayenne ground pepper or fresh pepper and Dr. Bronner's castile soap). I've tried her spray on cabbage worms and it worked well. PS - years ago I tried kitchen dish soap in water and had the same results as you did, never again.

I have 5 types of bell peppers and 2 hot peppers.3 tspns of neem and 3 tspns of sals suds soap in gallon and no issues. Just did it yesterday and one of my pepper plants looked like it was dying, but turns out they needed to get out of the greenhouse and into the shade due to the 110 temps we had today in N California. still wilted looking but it is fricken hot. That was just one of my pepper plants. the rest are fine. fruit had sun scorch on it. Just using sparingly and no more than 2x a week without a foliar feed with compost tea to rinse off the wax builup

I know it's been a while now since this posted but maybe in the future if you have another mishap you can maybe propagate any salvageable branches... if someone hasn't told you already, castile soap is usually gentle enough. Vitacost sells its own brand far cheaper than what I can get at a store. Peppermint oil works well - use some cheap oil as a carrier in plain water. Helps it to stick.

Instead of dish soap I have always used a peppermint Dr Bronner soap. It's a natural soap and I dilute it in a spray bottle with a small squeeze of soap and fill the rest with water. Mine worked half of the time on aphids and 100% of the time on stink bugs. Spray directly on a stink bug a couple times and you can watch it just fall off the plant and die. (Or youll have the ones that latch on to trees and die after you spray them. Come back days later and it's decomposing on a branch. Pretty cool remedy for us where we live)

I tried dish soap years ago, made the mix way to strong, it is a degreaser, destroys the waxy build up on the bugs and the plants, I been using it on and off for a few years now and never make less than a gallon, one tablespoon per gallon or less. I then put it in a spray bottle. I was experimenting using a egg plant with a ton of whiteflies. Egg plants always get bugs first and longest in my garden. I was seeing how little dish soap per gallon I can use to kill whiteflies and other bugs when I added BT to the mix, whiteflies have a maggot stage. all the white files died and did not come back. BT says it kills caterpillars not magots. So I did not get to finish the test. Dish soap is cheap, what are you planning to use now?

Danny, I always have leaf drop on my inside peppers this time of year. They also stop blooming right before they drop their leaves. Blooms that are on the plant when the leaves drop might or might not produce fruit. Most of the time the peppers come back in the spring when I set them outside. I have brought my peppers inside every year for as long as I can remember. I have 3 jalapenos that are 3 years old and I may have lost one of them this winter. The stem is still cool to the touch so I'm not giving up on it. As long as the stem is cool the plant is still alive. All 5 of my tabascos are going through leaf drop but still have the cool stem so I'm not worried about them. I have 2 jalapenos and about a dozen tabascos still on my plants that I will be picking in the next day or two and that will be the end of my pepper season. I've been extremely blessed in that I haven't had an aphid problem on my inside peppers. On my outside crops I use the dish soap and water for aphids and have never had it kill the plants so I'm thinking that maybe your plants may be going into a dormant stage. Also, don't water them while they are dormant unless they become extremely dry...but you already knew that. lol I hope this helped. Much Love
