What exactly was that bothersome about that scene? A middle aged guy saw a pretty saleswoman and made a fool of himself. It's not even just some far fetched comedy-only thing, this happens all the time in real life. Are a few clumsy lines and him slipping his tongue because he fantasizes about her so bothersome?

You have to understand the perspective though. I am a girl. We normally don’t find that stuff as funny as men do. Like I said, I can sometimes brush past it or even find it funny if it’s quick and/or done right, but this one was WAY too long and and the jokes didn’t land very well for me. It just made me more and more annoyed until I was legitimately mad.

@@kayreacts4763 Part of the problem was that Chase was once a super-star that guaranteed good box office, so folks were hesitant to rein him in. That scene went on _way_ too long. Frankly, I don't find it all that funny. I'm a grown man, and learned how to talk to attractive women with revealing attire a long time ago. i.e. I don't make a fool of myself. Oh, and don't stare.
@ckobo84
@ckobo84 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's he simply gets nervous around attractive women, you people seem to entirely miss the point. The point is how conflicted he is about being a married man with children. The guilt is turning him into knots.
@erictaylor5877
@erictaylor5877 2 жыл бұрын
Most women don't find it funny for a married man to flirt with another woman, let alone undress them with their eyes and make multiple sexual comments. Scenes like this in movies are glossed over or made to be "funny" because it's expected for a man to behave that way. That doesnt mean it's okay.

My favorite Christmas movie. I don't remember ever having a real tree, always plastic or cardboard. As for your reaction to this movie (and yes I have seen the "future" Kay clip) I don't remember in 30+ years ever seeing or hearing about anyone who got upset with this movie or even that scene. Fascinating. Better not watch the other movies in the series. All the movies in the series are called Vacation something. You were really downer. I respect you didn't pretend to like it, surprised you disliked it, but to each their own. Have a nice holiday period and Merry Christmas.

This was a sequel to National Lampoon's Vacation about Clark Griswald forcing his family to take the perfect cross country family road trip to an amusement park called Wallyworld. Much of the site gags and humor, including the annoying cousin and the risqué humor with the sales girl are taken from the very successful previous movie. Kind of guy movie humor. Basically Clark always overdoes everything in an effort to have everything be his idea of perfection but everything always goes wrong.

You’ll probably be happy to know that Chevy Chase broke a finger when chopping at the reindeer and just kept going lol. Please watch it again with friends and family when you’re in a good mood. If you would’ve watch the original vacation before this you would know that’s how the characters are and John Hughes just kept going with it. You’ll definitely enjoy it more. Geesh, what a Grinch! Refreshing, though, to see a reactor let ‘er rip. You’d likely enjoy the very first “Vacation” film (1983). That’s actually a road trip---Chicago to L.A., to “Wallyworld” (Disneyland stand-in). You can see where many gags in this film came from, as there was some recycling, but it’s more jaded and cynical than this one, as they, of course, must navigate several disasters and obstacles along the way (early ‘80s films had more attitude and grit before the yuppie/preppie go-go glitz stuff began to invade films circa ‘85). Same cast except the kids, which are always different for some reason (Cousin Eddie’s kids also are different, but in “Christmas Vacatio,” he actually talks about the older ones from the first movie, so there’s that). Glad you had grandparents who got along. My parents’ families had totally different temperaments, despite being mostly Italians. One side liked parties and being loud and playing music and all that, and the other side was more reserved and looked down on rowdy Italians. War broke out between both sides in the Great Christmas War of ’79, when the snooty side had it with the party side. Literally had different war theaters all over our house: grandma vs. grandma, aunt vs. aunt. I wish I hadn’t been just a scared, confused 10-year-old because looking back, it would be like an awesome twisted Christmas family spectacle to behold.

When cousin Eddie appeared virtually everyone in the theater would have known who he was from the first film in the series in which he and his family were part of an important subplot. This is a case where if you didn't watch the films in chronological order, you can't understand the reference. This is also the problem with his fantasizing about women which is a recurring part of the plot in the first movie. This film has far less of it than the first, though this one is in many ways raunchier. The movie is really a cartoon and should be reacted to as such. Worrying about the impossibility/improbability of what is on screen should not be a part of the reaction. We all know when something couldn't happen. We all know when someone should have died. In a movie like this it is expected. The question is, was the scene funny?

The first two movies are comedy gold because the humor and the characters are written well. Here they are flushed out and bringing in different at this movie. You need to watch the first two to get know them especially Clark. Vegas Vacation (1997) is the worst because it's not that funny. So, I could understand you being upset about a scene that drags too long. Some movies are like that and not always keepers. Modern Day movies are becoming more like that and it is sad. But an positive note, got the reaction on Christmas eve and I appreciate your honesty. Hope you and your family have an better Merry Christmas than this family from the movie. 1. When Clark delivers the present to his boss his boss calls him greaseball. 🤣 2. GOOF: The lights outside the attic window don't match the pattern with the resto of the house. 3. My favorite part is when Ellen pulls the chain on the the trap door. 🤣🤣 4. Mae Questel played Aunt Bethany. She was the original Betty Boop, This was her last gig. 5. In the big rant scene the other actors had Chevy's lines written on placards so he wouldn't get his lines out of order. 6. Living next door to them must be kind of like living next door to the Bundys. 7. Fun fact; Chase actually hurt his hand karate chopping the reindeer. 8. Ellen puts her hand over Clark's crotch when they get busted at the end of the first Vacation movie. 9. Ellen is played by Beverly DeAngelo. She also played in "Every Which way but Loose" with Clint Eastwood and in "Hair". EWWBL would be a great first time share but "Hair" would give you copywrite issues. Finally, she has a couple of kids with Al Pachino. Frankly I like her more than the sales lady.😍😋🥰 10. This IS my Christmas movie every year 11. Fun fact: This is the only Vacation where Audrey is older than Rusty. 12. My picks in order: Christmas, Vacation, European and finally Last Wages.

I've come to really enjoy this movie in the last few years and love the Griswolds, Clark included, but I think it's totally understandable to find the mall scene off-putting. Culture and society in general is in a very different place than it was when this movie was made, and what was seen at the time as just an innocent funny joke about Clark finding a woman attractive, and making a fool out of himself because of it, now comes off as Clark just straight up objectifying her. That's not the intention, of course, but with the context of today's society, and with people in general having a better understanding of what counts as objectifcation and sexualization... Yeah, ten-fifteen years ago I would've just been laughing and shaking my head at it, seeing it as just another one of Clark's antics, but it hits different now.

The movie did nothing wrong...people like you are the reason for those pathetic trailers before the trailer. Short attention spans and no patience. You took it personally and were triggered on a personal level, not a film-making one.

Merry Christmas! For me, the movie doesn’t start until Eddie shows up.

Not a great movie. Would like to see a version of this with buster Keaton made in 1925. Good job Kay. Merry Christmas ⛄

The first two Vacation movies are a lot funnier and more re-watchable in my opinion. However, this one does get me into the Christmas spirit just from the set decor and cinematography. I think the issue with Christmas Vacation is that Rusty and Audrey are basically non-characters, whereas in the first two (with different actors), half the jokes centered around them. Chevy Chase had to carry this one almost entirely on his own, with the exception of Randy Quaid as Cousin Eddie towards the final act, and his shtick gets old fast. Quaid's role in the first one is a lot smaller. So definitely take a gander at the first two, but go in with the frame of mind that the character of Clark is a complete idiot/asshole. One of his first lines in the first movie is "I'm not your ordinary, everyday fool", and you can sense everyone thinking to themselves, "yeah, you're an exceptional fool!" Some people like Vegas Vacation (the 4th one), but I found it to be extremely boring, and I'll never watch the pointless remake of the first one from 2015.

She probably won't enjoy the Christie Brinkley trope which is spread into multiple scene. I don't even think that subplot was funny, but the saleswoman scene in this movie cracked me up 😄

It's definitely a somewhat overrated movie that takes more than one viewing to appreciate

I also found that scene highly problematic, couldn't sleep for 3 days after watching.

Oh, I know what you mean. It's so triggering that any time I laugh at content like that I self-flagellate myself by reading Bell Hooks or Simone de Beauvoir and follow it up with a few chapters from White Fragility just to remind myself of what a horrible person I am for being a man and to never find amusement in anything that could potentially offend someone else ever again.

I never found this movie particularly funny. Mostly because I don`t like Chevy Chase that much (from what you hear and read about him, he seems to be an asshole or at lest very difficult to work with). But I like that you are honest with your reaction. If you don`t like a movie or think it is not funny, you should always be transparent about it. So, this a good reaction in my books =) Merry Christmas everybody 😀

LOL I've heard the same about Bill Murray. Small wonder they didn't work together after "Caddyshack." merry Christmas & other happy hollidays, to you, and everyone.
