I wouldn't even buy this doctored up Canyon Denali for parts!

In my intense search (not as intense as it should be) for doctored-up auction vehicles, I have run across this 2021 GMC Canyon Denali. It was pretty bad before the doctor's handy work, and it isn't much better after. They overpaid for this thing from the beginning hopefully they lose big on this one! Let's have a look at this and an RDX that is back up again. 1GTG6EEN7M1248597

Lots of good pointers on how to spot doctored vehicles. The scammers are learning a lot and won't be making those mistakes again. Leaving that spare tire cable just dangling down like that is a rookie move. They should thank you for educating them so they won't do that again.
@Sashazur
@Sashazur 3 ай бұрын
But is there anything the scammers can do that will make it harder to detect the doctoring, while still doing it and still making it pay for them? I’m not a mechanic or a body guy, but it seems like the better they get at hiding their work, the more time and money it takes them, so it’s counter productive to even bother to begin with - hopefully!

Hiding deployed airbags should definitely be considered fraud - not to mention bidding on their own vehicles… 🤦‍♂️
@lwilton
@lwilton 3 ай бұрын
Bidding on your own lot is basically what a reserve price is. The concept has been around as long as auctions have been around. If you don't have a posted reserve price, bidding up your own lot is another way to ensure that you don't get a lot less than you think the lot is worth. You might end up paying the auction fees and a relisting fee. But you might consider that a better deal than letting the lot go for a tiny fraction of what you think it is worth.

Wow. I got taken on a 'finished' product of something like this. '16 Malibu LT, 61k miles, dealer openly admitted prior collision damage, Carfax indicated rear collision. However, that did not explain something appearing 'off' about the front end, or the headlights being all over the place. After 4 months, 2 attempts at repair, and threats of legal action, they finally got serious about it and kept the car almost a month. I have a picture of it with only the hood, right fender / headlight on. The core support was warped to the point the washer reservoir filler neck grommet could not seat against the reservoir. I still wound up upgrading the halogens to LEDs and adjusting the headlights myself. However, it was developing blow-by and trans / CV axle issues. Infotainment would not see my phone and the 12V socket lost power when the door was open. Never found the VIN on any salvage auctions. I think it was involved in an accident on a test drive, doctored up and sold to another dealer through other means, since the title history includes a dealer over an hour away.
