Is it sacrilege to say that it would make a stunning pair of suspenders 🤔 Either way it's gorgeous. I really want to collect crafts... not the items...the skills. Every time I see a new one, I know I want to learn them all.

I am so often in that position myself. I have a length of tatted lace that I still haven’t finished sewing onto the neckline of a dress after more than two years (sewing it on is tedious because I’m trying to make the sewing thread as invisible as possible), yet here I am, making another length of the same pattern. Hopefully I can give the new lace away to someone who enjoys using lace and stick to the part I enjoy, which is making it.

I agree! But, must admit I thought "guitar strap" 😁 because so many have straps woven this way. Suspenders or a D-rings belt would be great.

As soon as I saw this I clicked. You had me at 'weave'! I have only just discovered card weaving about a month ago. I had my husband make me an inkle loom from a pattern I purchased on etsy. I love it. I used some cheap wool to do some a sampler. However, I am going to finish my first major piece (pattern courtesy of Elewys of Finchingefeld - KZfaq) with good quality wool this morning. I cannot wait to sew it to the bottom of my wool Viking apron dress. I am starting at number 1 of her patterns and will work my way through. So excited for more people to learn this wonderful skill through your channel. All the best to you. Lots of fellow crafter love from Tasmania (Australia).

Fun fact: the tablet woven band at the bottom of apron dresses was often woven while warping the upright loom, and formed a “third selvedge on the finished cloth. Sally Pointer has a series on making, warping and testing such a loom, and one of her videos shows how to make the tablet woven band to warp the loom.

Watching you set up the loom was awesome. Whenever my grandmother let me play/weave on her inkle loom, it was already set up for me so I had no idea how it was set up, let alone for different patterns. Hopefully I'll be able to take the inkle loom back with me when I go visit my parents this summer. I'd love to pick this up properly as a hobby. Thank you for sharing, this was super educational and cozy 💖 Glad that Bran was extra helpful too.

I've just bought an inkle loom to help keep the tablet weaving (picked back up after about 25 years!) from tangling on a regular basis. I may have to try it with heddles. As you were talking about not having room for a full sized loom, I was picturing hanging a vertical loom on my wall -- and having the cats go after the warp weights! Ah...maybe not the best idea right now.

I think I’ll have the space for the actual weaving but I’m trying to figure out how to get started with the space I have 😅 I feel you on the space aspect

@@OpusElenae What's going on now with Cos Tube and the like feels very similar to the crafts boom of the 70's and 80's. Me and Mum worked the local craft sale circuit in the 80's.

I have an ink lnkle loom that I inherited from my Mom, who was an accomplished hand weaver. I had never seen her use it, so was unsure how the shed was changed. Watching you work on this brought it all together! Thanks!

I've done some card weaving in the past, and I've always been interested in inkle looms, it was lovely to see the full process. This piece turned out beautifully! Watching you work through this also made me feel inspired to work on something alongside you, so I did some sewing repairs that I had been putting off. My newly re-wearable clothing thank you!

I am going to have to give the zebra stripes a go, it's a deceptively simple pattern. Hat bands, bracers... I can see lots of uses for zebra trims.

Fiber arts is so amazing to me. I've seen costube folks spin yarn, card weave and use looms like this, it's still a mystery to me but I love seeing the process. Forgot to mention, With my hands dream has this huge loom set up in her home to weave cloth for her Finnish National dress. All of you are so creative! Thank you for chill vibes and weaving

This is fascinating to see done up close, I have EDS and we're often called zebras so seeing you make a zebra pattern is especially cool.

What a lovely and thorough tutorial! I weave this pattern almost exactly the same way you started working it when you switched to one needle/nål - I just skip the pickup stick altogether and only use my fingers. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️

@@OpusElenae yeah, I think I did a full warp and some using a pickup stick (or rather, the long end of a shuttle designed for pickup) and at some point during my second warp I subconsciously started just using my fingers - I kind of went "huh, when did that happen" and never went back

This one was a gift from a dear friend who had it from a creator who has since passed. I highly recommend Egill’s Woodstuffs though, they have some adorable medium (3yd) and lunchbox (45”) looms and the quality is amazing. My bigger loom is from them.

The green tea with buckwheat sounds like a twist on genmai matcha, which I love. Beautiful and meditative video. I actually fell asleep during the weaving footage and had to watch it again. I love the swan shuttle and it's so nice to see it in action. And hello to Production Assistant Bran. Purely out of curiosity, how hard would it be to weave actual runes into a band?

Bran says hello back! I'm not sure; I think I could do it? The book has ways to weave letters, so it should be similar. I wonder if it would be easier with tablet weaving, since so many futhark runes have diagonal lines.

@@OpusElenae I believe the runes were developed with ease of scratching/engraving/carving in mind, hence all the straight lines. Your stripes really do look like runes, so I just wondered. I'm sure you have a long list of projects and don't need another, but the idea of a woven band saying NO NAZIS IN VALHALLA in letters most of them probably can't read has a certain appeal.

Thank you for the video. I do have that book and have tried several patterns. Its a great at book once you learn how to interpret the threading and lifting charts. Not tried that one yet. It is now on my to try list. Along with several outfits, card weaving that I can do on either my inkle loom or my 16" rigid heddle loom and pattern drafting ideas I have bouncing round my head currently (regency inspired) Right back to my 17th C. Caftan. Having to re-pattern as the purchased one is (insert appropriate swear word) terrible.

Yep. I've got a a part woven card weaving project sat on my rigid heddle loom that I haven't managed to touch in months. And I've just had a reminder that the Jorvik viking festival is in 2 weeks. The temps are going to be a smidge warm for my wool over dress. Wonder if I have time and fabric for an apron dress. Best find your videos on it 😊

It was a gift from a dear friend, made by someone in the SCA who has since passed. I highly recommend Egill's Woodstuff though; he has walnut looms that are very similar.

Me too. I tried weaving and was like "this is some sort of hell" but then I discovered tapestry weaving and I was enchanted. Now I do mostly knitting, lace and also multi coloured. All of which is also repetitive and time consuming but satisfying. I don't understand why one activity drives me crazy but another puts me into flow.
