Whoever made the decision to have him singing BEHIND him talking should have been fired. It's hard enough to understand him when he's talking but with the singing and the guitar in the background??? IMPOSSIBLE!!! I had to go back like 10 times just to get one snippet of dialogue. FWIW.

In a transcribed conversation between Michael Stipe, Bono and Courtney Love in the early, early oughties, or maybe 1997/98, Courtney said that, when graded holistically, as a package, Ian was the greatest rock star she had ever seen yet. and she ended up loving with him, and learning just about all her most famous moves from the 1989/'90 to '93 era of Hole. Stipe said that two of the Echo records were among the best rock albums of any genre, any time, coming out of Britain or anywhere at the time. And Bono said that he had always, ALWAYS considered Ian his superior, in terms of musicality and lyrics and performance. But because U2 were more ambitious and better-managed, they had far more than their fair share of success.

I've no problem with this and I'm Irish 🇮🇪. Bono knows his place, Stipe knows his music, and Courtney, well Courtney knows just who to hang out with. Echo, for their budget, stage act and musical presence, hands down, any day. Are you listening, everybody since then?

@@francoestrubia6503 with all due respect bro, this is about 'developing' sound. No one can hold a candle to the seed of 50's origins. When you think of the transition from Glen Miller to Bill Hailey, it must have been mind-blowing. Can electric guitars really do that? 😮 Chuck, of course, was next level, and all modern sound emits from that genre, but lyrically, these bands and their songwriting is through the stratosphere.

I reckon he's right. It's up there with the best of them - like Platinum standard level with probably a good 2 or 3000 other great 20th century classics. Good music was profuse in that time period. Unlike today .... Is it better lyrically than anything the Beatles ever wrote? Probably not, but the fact that the man who wrote it feels it is (35+ years down the road)has got to a be a good thing not only from his own personal perspective but for other fans of this song and their band in general. If he said it was a fuckin embarassment to him and that he wished that he'd never even wrote it to begin with then that would hardly inspire anyone to want to explore it posthumously. Whether you agree with him or not is subjective to say the least. Opinions and arseholes n' all that.

Listen up. There is a blue moon on October 31st, at 14:49 in the Uk. At that time, I will be taken up to the throne of God in heaven. God did write this tune, all of it, Ian knows this. The line...too late for me to beg you, the killing time, unwillingly mine....that describes me as the end times messiah mentioned repeatedly in scripture. I have prayed to God not to wreak his vengeance on a terrible and sinful world that has pretty much forgotten Him, but He won't, it's too late. So I will kill millions, billions maybe, unwillingly. The classic line...fate, up against your will, through thick and thin, he will wait until you will give yourself to him....that's all about my turmoil since recently finding out who I am destined to be, my fate, and the struggle I have had reconciling that with my own free will. But I am reconciled, I came to know God only in 2016 at age 49, I've had a great life, and this planet and us humans wouldn't even exist if He hadn't create it all. And I love His ways, His righteousness and love for His people. So I am honoured to give myself to Him. And in return, after the killing spree in 2032, I'll be the King of Kings, ruling the whole earth, under Gods laws. I won the biggest lottery in history. I write at Dumnonia Watchman blog for now. Most, if not all, will think me crazy, doesn't matter, you'll all see. Please repent of your sins, God loved Britain especially and blessed it mightily. Now we turned away from Him, it's upsetting to Him, and He will punish us terribly, stuff you won't believe is coming, horrible things. If anyone knows Ian McCullogh, point him to my blog please. Thanks, may God save you. From yourselves.

The Beatles absolutely wrote better songs than "Killing Moon." I'm a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen, but come the hell on, Ian -- you wrote a bunch of good pop songs, but you also wrote a bunch of dreck. Surely he's bright enough to realize this, right? He's kidding. He has to be. It has to be sarcastic over-the-top boasting meant to be obviously less than serious and ultimately self-deprecating. Hell, "Killing Moon" isn't even his best song. (The song that follows it on Ocean Rain, "Seven Seas," might claim that title. Or maybe it's "Rescue"?) In case he's serious, here's a partial, random, totally off the top of my head list of bands/artists whose worst stuff is better than the best of Ian McCulloch: Blur Elvis Costello The Auteurs Microdisney The Clash The Kinks Joe Pernice (Pernice Brothers; Scud Mountain Boys; et al) Teenage Fanclub The Smiths Leonard Cohen Prefab Sprout The Go-Betweens Aztec Camera Babybird/Baby Bird Ed Harcourt R.E.M. House of Love Throwing Muses The Church Paul Weller (The Jam; Style Council; solo; whatever...) You get the idea. ;-)
