I’m a pro player and I own two 4 string Mikro bass’s and three 5 string Mikro bass’s and absolutely love them. I gig with my Mikro’s regularly running thru my Hartke bass amps and it sounds awesome. All my standard 34” scale bass’s are collecting lots of dust. Cool video by the way. Cheers, Davyo

Nice! The Mikro is super fun to play, and actually sounds really good, which is surprising to some people. Have you swapped out any of the stock pickups on your Mikros? I replaced the stock p-style pickup on mine with a Geezer Butler passive EMG, and I gotta be honest...the stock pickup actually sounded better!

@@ChrisHollandGuitar nope, I just kept the stock pups on all my Mikro’s, they all sound so massive going thru my Hartke bass amps that I’m happy with the stock pups. Cheers, Davyo

Thanks for the demo! How do the stock pickups compare to the Geezer Butler?

Truth be told - I actually prefer the stock Ibanez P style pickup over the Geezer Butler EMG. The stock pickup had a brightness and presence that I really like, and the Geezer Butler EMG is a bit darker...so it comes down to what you prefer. I'm keeping the Geezer Butler pickup installed though. It still sounds great, and I almost always use a blend of both pickups, like I did in this demo.

@@ChrisHollandGuitar thanks! i like darker sounds in general and have enjoyed all the geezer demos i've seen on regular scale basses, but i wondered if it might be overkill on a shortscale where the strings might be floppier, the fundamental stronger, etc. i'm considering getting one of these for my kids at some point so that's great to know it is decent out of the box.

Is this recommended for a serious playing? I'm starting a band with my good buddies, and we agreed to take things seriously. The bassist is a guitarist-turn-to-bassist who struggled to reach the frets of a bass.. Will this be good & okay for gigging (or even professional use) after component upgrades?

Yes, it is! I know bassists who actually tour with a Mikro.

I record direct with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface.

Did you install them yourself . If so did you use the foam and spring under the new pickups

How hard are the Geezer EMGs to put into this bass? Any drilling or wiring required?

I couldn’t use the solderless electronics that came with the pickup. I had to wire it like the stock jazz pickup was - with soldered connections. No drilling required, it fit into the pickup cavity without issue.
