Thanks for this video! I see many people focusing more on the sustain issues or the difference in pickup output between the middle and neck pickups, both of which can be fixed by adjusting pickup height. Not many appreciate this guitar for what it is, a marvel of engineering, as you said. The bridge is beyond amazing, it is made to stay in tune no matter what, even after breaking strings. You don’t get that with any Floyd rose style of bridge. The neck and frets feel amazing. I was lucky to buy one of these in 2012 and this is still my best guitar purchase ever. My dream guitar is this same guitar body and neck shape but with roasted maple neck, with a single coil for bridge and for sure the same bridge.

Makes me miss my mid-range priced Ibanez S470DXQM. That thing was one gorgeous guitar in the quilted natural fade and also played great. Also had cool "S" inlays. The S series stands for "Saber" series if google is correct. Love your playing. Your vibrato is fantastic, along with everything else your doing, but I noticed how great your vibrato was both in your hands and with the trem. Thanks for the video.

Hey Chris - I own a 540S-LTD that I purchased new in `89. She's been a faithful and flexible guitar these pass 32 years, and I'm actually surprised anyone parts with these guitars; you couldn't offer me enough to get me to part with mine. One thing I would recommend trying on the Neck Pickup is to lower it completely down, and then raise the posts to balance. This was a trick that my local Ibanez Rep told me to do (Chris Kinman), and the tone is INSANE!! Especially for Funk and Jazz. Mine you, my girl is sporting the old IBZ/USA F1 pickup, so I'm not if yours will have the same affect, but it's worth a try mate.

That Sabre is the sort of red I haven't seen since the 80s. That was one of the dominant guitar colors in that era. I had a wonderful, mint condition Holdsworth Charvel in a gorgeous, metallic, candy apple red with an original hand wound JB. Sounded absolutely amazing, played like butter. I wish I still had it. But that's the shade of red I prefer. This Sabre is more Ferrari red, but I like it in a nostalgic kind of way. It brings me back to the good old days on the Sunset strip.

I watch all your videos. Can't play a lick! I have a 2018 mex Fender strat & a 2019 Fender 5 string American professional P bass. I will learn someday. Love your videos & amazed how easy you make it look.

Thanks man! It takes a lot of practice and putting in the hours. You can do it too!

Great video. Are you sure that in position 2 it's the single coil in the bridge, and the middle? My friend has this guitar, and he thinks it doesn't tap / split because that bridge pickup has that straight bar thingy. When he is in position 2, and he taps his middle pickup with his pick, there's no sound.

I personally don't care for the thin body or the 17"radius on the guitar.never bonded with Ibanez.but they are well made...👍...

I have the Ibanez S2170sw prestige that was made in Korea and these are the one that had QC issues. It's not a bad guitar by any means but it doesn't feel like a good japanese Ibanez to me. The neck pocket is a bit sloppy on it.

I bought the S5470 prestige three days ago. The guitar was produced in 2008 and is in original condition. What is disturbing for me is the lack of balance between the signal from the humbuckers and the pickup single. Does your guitar also have a very low signal from the single? Have you made any modifications? greetings
@jayz60083 жыл бұрын
Have you had sustain problems with yours? I've been interested in buying one but I've heard from multiple people that certain notes on the fretboard had zero sustain and are practically dead.
@tatum1236003 жыл бұрын
@@jayz6008 I have Les Paul, Strat, Tele and I didn't notice any sustain problems with the S5470, what's more, I didn't hear any difference in sound length, either on a clean channel or overdrive. Perhaps there are some nuances due to the thickness of the guitar body, but as I said, I don't notice it. The S5470 is very ergonomic, light, very comfortable neck, the ZR2 tremolo is OK. Regarding my first post, the difference in the signal from individual pickaps has to be compensated by setting the pickap distance from the strings - and that's it. greetings

Hello. Does S5470 have any problem with sustain compared to RG series?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear3 жыл бұрын
Not as far as I could tell.

It has a little less sustain than it is supposed to. But most of the loss of sustain in the s5470 is because the pickup magnets are very strong, especially the short tracer (single coil). I dont think its that noticable to be honest, but a pickup change should help if you feel its on the low side sustain wise.

Can you see any difference in quality between this prestige and the rg1070pbz premium?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear4 жыл бұрын
Yes. The overall build quality is "tighter" feeling... if that makes sense. The bridge is vastly superior and the neck carve is thinner.
@chadyoak16334 жыл бұрын
Chris Tompkins yes that makes sense. I’ve got a rg1070pbz and love it but I’ve never had the chance to play a prestige.
