First off, Chris, great playing! I got mine today and had similar observations. Strings will be replaced asap. Truss rod was totally slack. Can’t wait to try it at higher gain. I agree too that the bridge sounded muddy. And the fretboard is very dry. But it’s at least as good as an Ibanez Gio. My Donner Thinline is AMAZING. This one is good for the price and will be a decent platform for mods. Love the paint, the headstock, the satin neck, the neck profile…maybe different strings and a set up may help.

I picked up the very last Bullfighter D-120 "LP style" from amazon after tax & s/h it came to $150. After playing it for months, I removed the pick guard & found the screw scratched the guitar. I wish they had used a smaller screw or shaved it down. Either way, I did but after the fact. For 150 bux, it looks amazing! I'm looking at mine & your EART & I thunk your EART would look better with a cream switch tip. 3yrs later.

Great looking guitar and it sounds amazing. I had a Kiesel before. Not really a big fan but... the woods are high quality and I love the sound of the Lithium pickups. They get a bad rap amongst many guitarists but I don't understand why. They are very articulate, well-balanced, have a nice singing resonating sound, long sustain, they are lively pickups. However there is one famous guitarist who uses Lithium pickups in his Kiesel signature model. I forget his name all the time even though he is relatively famous. He also loves the Lithiums.

I just watched your Jackson Dinky blue guitar video where you talked about the Floyd Rose 1000 series and that you more prefer the Original Floyd Rose with titanium buds. You said that is your favorit trem more than the Ibanez trem. But in this video you say the Ibanez Lo Pro Edge trem is the best. Now I am confused, haha. For me I had the both trems but I liked the Ibanez trem more. I don't know about the other trems of Ibanez. I know that Steve Vai prefers the older trem version which he had on his first signature models. I think it is called the Pro Edge with is slightly higher.
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear 3 күн бұрын
As far as stock tremolo's go, the Ibanez "Edge" and "Lo-Pro Edge", are the best, IMO. However, I actually prefer to have a German floyd rose (or even a Schaller) with upgraded titanium parts. It's insanely stable. But, it's something that you have to upgrade to make it perfect. There's nothing wrong with a 1000 series Floyd or even the special, if you take care of them. But they pale in comparison to the real deal German build with upgrades. The precision and quality is tops! $$$ though... But remember, it's all subjective and these are just my personal opinions that I've formed over the last 36 years of playing. Your's may be different.

Great playing. About the Evertune I haven't tried it. When I hear others play the Evertune it gives me mixed feelings. On the one hand it keeps the guitar in tune which is great. On the other it makes the guitar sound a bit sterile.. because it stays so perfectly in tune all the time. There seems to be little room left for personal touch. The bridge corrects itself. This makes guitar players who use Evertune sound more or less the same. What are your thoughts on this? How does it compare to fixed bridges and tremstyle guitars?
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear
@ChrisTompkins-Music-And-Gear 3 күн бұрын
When setup in zone 2, it plays exactly like a normal hardtail equipped guitar. I don't play any different, on an evertune equipped guitar. I think it's a genius piece of equipment! It could be that you are only hearing people playing the same styles of music on an evertune. These do seem to have been adopted largely by the metal community. It's the BEST thing to have in a studio environment and also quite nice to bring to shows. It's going to be in tune and stay that way throughout a performance. Bends, vibratto, the "feel" are all still there.

Oh snap!!!!! My boi hitting us with the GALLOPS?!????? He got dem GALLOPS?!??? Yo, bruh. Either your favorite bass player is the one from Iron Maiden or the one that's Steve Vai's best friend! Lol! Either way, you're going ham, king. And I know who _your_ bass inspiration is! Keep up the good work fam! Love from a church bassist/drummer. Not too well seasoned (I'm coming along, but I'm no Justin Raines), but I'm a work in progress. 😅 I do have a question. Tell me about the comfort you have when slapping and popping. You strike me as a big guy (no disrespect, because I am also big), so I wanna know how comfortable the bass felt to you. When i tried a similar bass at Guitar Center, it was a bit of a challenge for me to slap and pop. The string spacing did NOT help (it wasn't impossible, but a touch inconvenient). And that middle pickup is both a gift and a curse, since it'll block your fingers like Lebron James. Again, not impossible to work with, but a touch inconvenient. How's it feel to you? Also, thanks for the awesome review! Keep up the good work!

I have the HSS Texas tea. The Humbucker is silent. No screeching. But the bridge and middle do with gain. I don’t plan to play these with high gain so I’ll learn to live with it. I can play quite loud before it starts doing it. Pressing on the covers alters the sound of the screech. Pretty annoying though.

Sounded quite good in a couple of positions, it very usable in certain applications I think, but it's not able to breathe to my liking personally, it sounds like it's been internally chambered too much and in my ears it's having to rely on the pickups and volume and tone knobs to be fiddled with too much to let it get out the cage, I was considering getting the model you've demoed here in the exact same colour but I don't trust it to be stable enough, I'd kill for an Indo built if I could get one with the BT2S pickups only on board...it's behaving in your demo like an Indo assembled and I reckon it is regardless of the stamp saying otherwise, maybe China put the electronics into it perhaps? ...In my honest opinion the greatest Gretsch ever built is the Indo Streamliner Jr, particularly for harder driven stuff, it's a very nasty little beast indeed!!!..it's also smart enough not to have the Bigsby on it...it's a V tail too.

They’re nice but damn, they are expensive! That’s also a very cool looking guitar. The bridge pickup in my Tele died so I decided that was a good excuse to treat myself to a set of these and wow, I’m glad I did! The neck pickup alone is worth the price in my opinion. The word “articulate” comes to mind, you hear every single note in this clear, beautiful way. That piece you played at 5:14 shows that, it was beautiful!

Thank you for the review. Just bought a '94 (colour is tobacco with a painted headstock ; what a killer look !). If you're looking for a vintage sounding instrument but won't sell your house to get a true '62 strat, these are incredible. It's already 30 years old and really sounds and feel as old to me as the model it's based on. You've got to be okay with the imperfections though : it's not a one trick pony but it's really designed for getting these classic strat sounds. It really has a character : I wouldn't put much distortion, as I feel that it sounds at its best on the clean and slightly overdriven side. Also, you're right that the truss rod placement should be a big "no-no", but it is as it is :)

Oof... That's a tough one. I think the stock trem on the Ibanez is better and the body contours offer more comfort. But, the Jackson comes with fantastic pickups, an Ebony fretboard (my personal favorite), SS frets and luminlay side dots. I also prefer the HH setup over the HSH. So.... for me the Jackson slightly edges out the RG550.

Thanks. I bought a used 2023 Empire Music Custom Shop Super Strat that came with the Elite trem system. The trem arm was difficult to pop in and pop out and the trem had a grinding sound when I rotated it. Like yours, the wire in the trem hole was in the way and I followed your instruction. I also added the lubricant. Now it pops in and out with ease and rotates smoothly. For some reason the two adjustables are not too helpful. Tightening them makes it so I can't pull out the trem arm and the arm is still kind of loose. So I leave it loose, which does not bother me. Had I not seen this video I may have thought the trem is defective and bought a new system. Thanks again.
