@vertigofall I value compositional depth far more than pure "chops". There are some young cats that simply leave you in the dust, but will you remember their songs?

@@peteywheatstraws4909 yes, I agree. I remember watching a great interview with Steve Vai where he spoke about the importance and value of melody. I always try to remember that when I write a tune. As you say, there are many young players out there that have great technical skills but sometimes they can lack a tuneful melodic component.
