Australia really does border France. Also voting is compulsory, they hate each other and they talk a tiny bit like British people.
This video is about Australia for the borders series, even if it doesn't show borders. Let's not question it

It's not the Kangaroos you need to worry about, the Emus and Cassowaries will get you first. Also, to clarify the whole time zone thing, I think it's probably because the northern states are kind of in the tropics, meaning the whole day length thing doesn't really change much for them, whereas in the more southern states it makes a big enough impact to warrant daylight saving. So, perhaps in this case, not so much about lack of cooperation, more geographical differences. If you want lack of cooperation, look at the inter-state rail systems.

Fun fact - The highest mountain in Australia proper is Mt. Kosciuszko (2,228 m), located in southern NSW. It is, however, exceeded in height by Mawson Peak (2,745 m), the massive volcano that makes up most of Heard Island. Mawson Peak is the highest mountain in territory that is definitely Australian (even though most sources say Kosciuszko is Australia's highest mountain since nobody lives on Heard Island). However, even Mawson Peak is dwarfed in comparison to two peaks in the Australian Antarctic Territory - Mt. Menzies (3,355 m) and Mt. McClintock (3,490 m).

Truck drivers can and do traverse Australia quite frequently Also, NT never became a state because it wasn't formed till after federation, unlike the rest of states. There have been numerous proposals to make it a state but the more populated states don't want them to because of how many senators represent each head of population. NT also has Alice Springs, which is a big city in the middle of nowhere. Western Australia never wanted to join the federation and more or less only did so because they were promised a rail link from Sydney to Perth. Sometimes, some WA residents want out. New Zealand and Fiji. Fiji never attended the meeting, but NZ came close but didn't due to women's rights, Indigenous rights and distance. Papua New Guinea was territory which was granted indipendance

17:16 there is actually a good reason as to why the Government wouldn't allow a micro nations flag. Australia has at least 20 micro nations (makes sense we have farms bigger than some European countries) and one of them happens to be in my state of Western Australia named the Hutt principality, this micro nation was created over a dispute on unpaid federal tax in 1977. (This was the worlds first micro nation) the farms wrote a letter to the Federal Parliament stating their independence. The micro nation then declared war on Australia yet Australia did nothing. Mr/king Hutt said "under the Geneva convention a nation may not tax a nation they are currently at war with." Till this day the micro nation hasn't paid its minimum tax of 2.5 million dollars. Australia is really careful with micro nations because if you surrender to another nation they can do what they want to your people.

Fun facts!! I know you like enclaves and exclaves. Jervis Bay Territory (JBT) has a small exclave on the bottom part of Point Perpendicular which is the opposite headland on the entrance to the Bay itself in New South Wales. Again on that point of weirdness you mention so to allow the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) to control shipping into the bay for its port (If ever built for that purpose). On a side note; JBT use to be part of the ACT, but that changed in 1989. Its still represented in the Federal Election by a seat located in the ACT and local services still managed by the ACT government (Very confusing). But to continue on the enclave / exclave. NSW however has a Enclave within the Exclave of JBT on Point Perpendicular. NSW controls a small portion of land surrounding the lighthouse. Jervis Bay is pronounced as Jervis by the locals. But many Australians especially people from the ACT pronounce it like Jarvis. Jervis is the correct way. Also! Murray's Beach in JBT was the planned site of Australia's first Nuclear power plant. They prepared the land for it, but ended up just as the car park :) Jervis Bay also claims to have the whitest sand in the world. Chinaman's Beach at Hymes Beach is the whitest sand in the world. This is in the NSW part of the Bay. PS, hope I got the enclave and exclave around the right way. Always cofuses me!

I'm going to guess that the ACT contracts most of those services out to the NSW government. I can't imagine them having their own suppliers of everything for a few hundred people.

Richard Emms - Its actually a bit of a mix bag. I think it goes something like this. ACT Government- Laws, education and welfare. NSW Government - Fire and Health Shoalhaven City Council (Adjacent) - Garbage and library services Federal - Policing JBT Administration - Like Driver Licenses etc There is a small Primary school in Jervis Bay Village which is mainly for the Naval Base children and the Aboriginal Settlement at Wreck Bay. Highschool ages kids go to NSW at Vincentia High tho. So the Territory is managed by the Federal government but has contracted out its services as above. Just like the ACT was managed by the Federal Government until it was given self governance in 1989. Another thing about something I mentioned in my last post, if you live in the JBT. You vote in the Federal election as part of a seat in the ACT. But you can't vote in the local ACT election as its not part of the ACT anymore. There was murmurs a few years ago of the ACT government handing over all its services to Shoalhaven City Council, just due to logistics.

Macquarie island? Also do borders. They stuffed up Vic Tas boundary, supposed to be in the sea but ended up dividing an island. Murray river boundary between Vic, SA and NSW has about a kilometer that is disputed. Vic also stole a judge of SA cause we drew the boundary wrong.

Australia completely shifted from focusing on an alliance with the UK to the US during WW2, that remains today. The only thing that matters is who can control the oceans around them. That completely determines the safety and prosperity of Australia.

Australia also "stole" an Sub-Antarctic island from us here in NZ, Macquarie Island. Anyway, I think that most, if not all, of the territories of Australia and New Zealand could be summed up by saying "We're looking after it for Mum while she's away". Well, at least for now anyway

Macquarie Island was never part of NZ, though. When the British first claimed it they placed it in NSW. It was then transferred in 1890 to Tasmania, despite Tasmania not wanting it. Tasmania then offered it to NZ, but NZ didn't want it, so it stayed with Tasmania, where it remains to this day.

Just got back from Australia in January. You're right about how the states don't cooperate, and its very noticeable on their license plates. Victoria license plates sometimes say things like "The Smart State" and "The Education State" as if nowhere else in Australia has education. It's pretty funny. Also, people in Queensland call people from New South Wales and Victoria "Mexicans" because the flood in from south of the border and Queenslanders don't want them there

People from Victoria and I assume elsewhere call Queenslanders banana benders. I still haven't found out why. FYI, South Australians are crow eaters (apparently just because there's one on the state flag) and West Australians are sand gropers, which is one of the rare things that makes sense here. This is mostly according to my in-laws anyway.
