How to unjam a Dymo LabelWriter 450

How to remove stuck labels from inside a Dymo LabelWriter 450.
I've used this method many, many times to remove labels and unjam jammed labels that have wrapped themselves around the roller inside the LabelWriter.
You will need - scissors, a bit of strength (to pull on labels) and the courage to unclip bits of the labelwriter to un jam the LabelWriter.
WARNING: At no point should it feel like you need to put enough force that might break any plastic! Be slow and gentle and take your time looking at how the parts come apart and then go back together.
If in doubt - speak to someone who repairs laptops for a living - they should understand the procedure. And don't blame me if somehow it makes your broken LabelWriter any more broken!

Thanks for the excellent video. I learned more parts I could move to expose more of the label feed path. I had trouble grabbing the labels and used needle-nosed pliers to grab them.

I watched several videos and none seemed to fix my Dymo. Then I realized that it didn't happen when the front cover was removed....? So I checked the front cover and on the inside where the labels pass through there was label adhesive that made it sticky which was causing labels to stick. Simply cleaned it and my fantastic Dymo labelwriter 450 turbo is back running at 110% as it used to. Certainly worth a try peoples.. ;-)

Dymo should give you a dollar for every view. Note: if you find it really hard to clip the feeder back in, you might be doing it upside-down. I was. Thanks for saving my Dymo 450!

Everything is fine but you have a leverage on left side to release the Jaws. So you don't have to pull the paper.

Got a jam within 2 minutes of setting up the printer. I feel like they should give you an extra 5 labels per roll because this thing jams up pretty easily.

QUESTION: we have this at work, it jams from time to time. Today it jammed so badly, when i pulled back on the plastic front it snapped off, and found that the cutter part inside had a broken part. Im sure my boss is gonna be upset. Do you know where i could get another part like that front part? fingers crossed you know.

eBay. Either search for the part or search for a faulty/spares and repairs original full unit and take the part from it :) ?

My 450 turbo doesn’t have paper stuck to it, it pushes an extra label through. Also what I have noticed is that you rolled the cylinder thing and mine doesn’t roll, is that the issue? Because when I try print it says “Dymo is out of paper”

Do your label rolls have black square marks on the back of the wax paper? Have you used the plastic guide to make sure the labels are pushed to the left as they come through?

@@freename no, instead I have clear holes on the left side to know that it’s the right way. The roll is firmly on and the guid is in alignment. My dymo pushes 1/4 of a label out with 1/4 of the label printed then it says out of paper.

Interesting, wasn't aware they did ones like that. The holes tell the machine where the end of the label is (and changing of state makes the machine know if there is paper in it at all). Ensure that the sensor above or below (or both?) where the hole is are not blocked, covered in dust or any other thing which may stop it "seeing" the holes. Also ensure that the holes line up with that sensor. Good luck!

My jam is so tightly wound that the roller won't move AT ALL. I'm scared that if I score it there will be pieces stuck in the machine that I won't have leverage to grab. And then the roller again won't turn for me to get them out :(

Depends if you are in a situation where it's broke anyway so if you break it trying to unjam it you are no different :) if I were to score it id only do one cut so leverage is easier to pull the labels out .. scoring it in different places would, as you say, reduce the chance or a available label to grab hold of. While it may not be applicable to your situation. The times I've seen it happen consistently and constantly is if one of the plastic coverings is not installed in the correct location so it ends up splitting the label from the backing as it goes through.. or if the label roll is installed upside down.

Ive had a situation where the stickers actually pulled a light gray plastic piece through the feeder.

the gray piece can slide in so it gently rests on the side of the smaller labels...push it in so when the labels roll they dont roll uneven that might be the paper jam problemo

Not sure about the 550 model, sorry. It looks newer with more buttons on the front so may be designed differently.

I couldn't get it to feed properly. So I unclipped the front as in the video and cleaned the area that feeds the labels with a cue tip dipped in vinegar or rubbing alcohol and it finally worked.

I have watched this video numerous time. I was able to "unjam my label". I cannot seem to replace the guide. During the removal and reinstall of this part your hand is in the way. HELP!! My Dymo sits in pieces.

place one side in the hole it sits in (closest to the camera), then use a flat blade screwdriver to gently push the other side in over the plastic (towards the camera) so that the pip on that side drops down into the hole it needs to sit into too.

Check for stuck bit of label over the line which generates the heat/print. (Or if you are unlucky, that bit might be damaged if you jammed screwdrivers or scissors in?). I don't have access to a printer to check to describe or take a photo of the printing line or part. If you can't find it then in about a week I might be able to get access to one.

The print button in Dymo is a single click. Are you double clicking by mistake when printing?

We press print in the computer and then it start to print, well that’s how it work We recently bought a couple of the Dymo 450. And we have issues with the printer printing more than 1 label. Like it would print the name tag we want to print, but it print extra label and we have to roll it back every single time we print something. Could it be a problem with the sensor? Or the communication between the printer and computer? I try clinking the print button and it makes that printing sound for a long time, We’ve been having this problem with two other printer. And we don’t want to report it to our boss yet again….trying to fix it on our own.

The printer detects the end of the label using the hole cut in the reel between each label or a large black mark on the back of the label reel. Make sure that the sensor isn't blocked. Make sure the labels are pushed up to the edge as far as they can be using the plastic guide. Make sure the labels you are using are genuine and compare them to ones that have worked ok in the past.

The roller doesn't remove, the plastic guide (which can hinge up) is the thing I removed.

help. the first one is the one shown in the video. I didn't know this could be done until this video. It opens up the back. The other lever is pulling that black lever along the left side. That exposes the front side.

@@freename sorry. there was a typo. your video was great. it showed how to open the back side so you could pull out label. however, if there's more that's stuck toward the front, you can pull the black lever that's on the left side toward you and that will expose the front label to remove it.

I’ve been wanting to get a label printer for my small business for the longest time and finally pulled the trigger. I’m glad I did ! This machine is great kzfaq.infoUgkxw55tQTywUAAOsbrlwxONZULry77sFF1Q and the blue/green color matches the rest of the accents in my office. My favorite part is how small the footprint is. It’s less than 1/4 the size of my regular printer. Set up was fairly easy. Seller will email you a link with video instructions Which I found to be more helpful than the written instructions. I use a Mac and had no issues. They even included an adaptor for USB to USB-c which is great because I’m always losing mine! I had a few issues getting the labels to print properly and wasted quite a few sheets. You need to play around with the settings to get everything adjusted just right. If you have the wrong settings, it’ll crop off the edges or feed through blank labels. These aren’t issues with the machine though, just user error.

Not so sure. Maybe this one which is old but the newer Dymo ones prevent you from using any non-Dymo purchased labels! So could get expensive very quickly.

Good video, but DYMO 450 550 is a USB printer, CHEECENT CR202 print server can convert it to WiFi networked printer shared to computers. Would recommend buying.

@@freename Yes, but if it sharing via windows printer sharing, then this windows' computer must keep power on, otherwise other computers can not share it. With CR202 print server, it replace the PC host, so it can help a lot for office/home/business. Normally because someone got it jammed once and didn't remove the stuck label on the roller so other labels stick easily in the future.

I've not yet had to fix that situation so I don't have much advice :( maybe some flexible but strong plastic and try and feed it through to push some of the paper out so you can then grab it? Good luck! (I also suspect there's a way to open it up and release the roller to get under it but without needing to do that myself I'm sorry but I wouldn't know how)

The better way is to not put force on the gears by forcing it to rool. With a razor blade you can cut layer by layer quickly and remove the paper. Just make sure you do not cut into the roller itself. The printers were not that expensive a few years ago. Today they sure are. Don't rip the gears!!!!

No chance on the one in the video to pull on the labels. They were stacked so many times it was pretty firmly against the plastic housing around the rollers. For one or two labels your suggestion would work very well.

Most people seem to not know that the guide can be removed to give easier access to the roller. Guess it helps some people. For s refund on your time please submit it via fax with a notorised copy of your birth certificate.

Not sure I agree. Maybe the newer ones but the one in this video has been used for, at this point, tens of thousands of labels and rarely needs something like this doing to it.
